Ok, so I want to know where the battle lines are drawn in the whole "Greg Sager's karma" war that seems to be mounting.  I know April is on Greg's side and Dennis is against him.  It's just quite nervewracking watching it fluctuate.  Obviously this has expanded beyond those two individuals, so I'm looking for people to come forward and confess.  Let's get some good rivalries going on for the off-season.

I have yet to tale up sides in this sordid affair, but in the past, I believe I have given Sager far more applause than smittings.

When did this become public knowledge? I wasn't aware that anyone besides Pat, April, and I knew what Dennis was up to. (For the record, I figured it out on my own a few weeks ago; I went to the "Users Online" area immediately upon being smitten, and it was plain as day which of the two other 200-post veterans logged in at that moment had done the deed.)

I haven't brought this up on CCIW Chat, and I don't plan to do so. It would only revive a flame war that everyone has long grown sick of having to read. My karma status is not that important to me, although I admit to caring enough to be bothered by seeing my karma slowly trickle downward every day during the offseason in spite of the fact that almost every post I've made since the season ended has been completely innocuous. Heck, it's even gone down on days in which I haven't posted at all, as well as on days when I haven't even accessed the site. I'd think more highly of Posting Up's karma function if it were actually used by everyone for the purpose of expressing approval or disapproval of a post, rather than of the poster or the school that the poster supports.

What I mostly feel is embarrassment for Dennis. I just don't get how a grown man can be so petty and passive-aggressive as to make a daily practice of using a software feature to anonymously stick it to someone he doesn't like, especially when he's never been shy about putting his dislike of others into words. Dennis is somewhere in the neighborhood of sixty years old, which makes this childish compulsion of his seem rather sad. It's like finding out that your grandfather is throwing snowballs at passing cars, or sneaking into the local high school to write graffiti in the bathroom stalls.

That last one would actually be quite funny.

Anyway, I had a hint, but I've been noticing the trend myself of late and when I got that (unsolicited) confirmation I've been keeping an eye on the situation.  It seems obvious that there are more than one poster involved on each side of the issue, I was just wondering how far this whole thing has spread.

I'm trying to come up with something engaging over the summer.  Maybe this was the wrong avenue.

I hadn't noticed that there was a karma battle going on.  I am a reasonably active applauder and smiter; I know I have applauded both Dennis and Greg at times this summer.  I generally reserve my use of the buttons for individual posts, but I will make an exception for posters whose karma level I believe is seriously non-reflective of their posting quality.  That is certainly the case for Greg at the moment, although I guess I don't  pay enough attention to have noticed.  My own karma is far too high, but the site won't let me smite myself!  :D

haha... so YOU'RE the one who's been smiting me recently!  >:( ;) :D :D

HoopsFan knows because he's in league with Dennis, OBVIOUSLY.

Greg, it's pretty obvious, you've lost a billion karma points, despite my efforts, and it's not like you have that many enemies... you don't even get into fights with the IWU people any more. It's totally just Dennis... and possibly Hoops Fan :P

I don't want to sound like I'm taking sides here, but I've never been a huge fan of Dennis' general demeanor, although I am a fan of his jabs at Joe Hakes.

What the heck, I'm on the bandwagon... karma for Greg!

Quite frankly I'm not concerned about potentially being on someone's bad side; I was really more offended that you would lump me into a category that involved Dennis (although there's probably nothing I can do when that category is "gender.")  Please, no joke, we know where this could go.

How about... Basketball fan? People that don't live in a state that borders an ocean? People past college age? People who don't like me very much? People who have smited Greg...  :D

And, uhm... You weren't really offended by anything I said, were you?  ???

I was not offended by anything you said, although its refreshing to know that you can't even keep up the ruse of annoyance.  However, I am slightly bothered by being lumped in with Dennis is the Saga' Hata' club.  I thought that years of good grades and inept social skills had left me impervious to mockers, but perhaps you've found an area in which I am still susceptible.

It would crack me up to no end if Pat actually dubbed Rule #6 "the Augiedad Rule" in the Terms of Service.  :D

Many thanks to those of you who've stepped in to send some good karma my way. I was beginning to wonder if Dennis was going to slowly and inexorably turn me into Titan2000 before someone besides April noticed. April's done her best to counteract him -- in gratitude for which I vow to self-impose a moratorium on knocking Wheaton until next fall  ;) -- but it's hard to counteract someone who's smiting you once or twice every 24 hours without ever taking a day off.
