Edgewood--in turn--lost to WLC-- in the NAthCon final.

Yes, but neither Edgewood or WLC is in the Pool B discussion anyway.

Ralph,
Would you do a Pool B report for the women like you recently did on the men's side? I was surprised to see Elms as a new pool B candidate for the men and as a victor over Scranton in the NCAA last year, they would be a strong candidate this year, effectively reducing the available spots to 2. Wondering if there are any similar possibilities on the women's side.

Certainly!

Later tonight.   :)

Of course the Handbook has not been released, but I will give my best effort.

My lunch meeting canceled.  ;)

My first look thru D3hoops.com's regional listing shows these Pool B candidates.  I count 34 teams.  The access ratio in 2007-08 was 9.615 and I don't think that will change too much in 2008-09.  That gives 3 bids.  The real question is whether we get another bid budgeted for the women, because we added 9 new programs in basketball this year.  (The NCAA funds one bid for every 6.5 participants up to 64.)  If so, we will have a full 64-team bracket.

Northeast (10) -- NECC has 9 teams.  (The NECC should be Pool A in 2010-11.)  UM-Presque Isle.
East (1) -- New Rochelle.
Atlantic (10) -- LAND-8, St Elizabeth, Trinity DC.   (Landmark Conference gets it Pool A in 2009-10. St Elizabeth joins the NEAC in 2009-10.)
Mid-Atlantic -- (0)
South (2) -- Rust and Salem.
Great Lakes -- (0)
Central (1) -- Finlandia
West (10) -- UMAC-7 Chapman, Neb Wesleyan, UC Santa Cruz.  (UMAC should get its Pool A bid in 2010-11.)

Ralph,
Thanks for the timely effort, and if the NCAA funds the extra bid(because of the nine new programs), I assume it'll belong to pool C?

Ralph Turner

I think that the new bid will go to Pool A NATHC.

They take a bid from Pool B and the new schools add a bid to the Pool.  The allocation just works out for Pool B to keep 3 bids.

I think that the Landmark's bid in 2009-10 comes from Pool B.

In 2010-11, I think that one bid from Pool B and the other comes from Pool C to the UMAC and NECC.

Ralph Turner

Women's Handbook is out.  Three Pool B bids this season.

34 Pool B teams and 419 teams qualified for the championship.

40 Pool A bids
20 Pool C bids

I will do some double-checking.   :)

Looks like they don't do it for the women, since 416 or more participants would equate to a full 64 team field.

It does, doesn't it!

I have "personal messaged" Pat Coleman about this.   ;)

Ralph Turner

The women will get their 64th bid in 2009-10.

And the reason that it doesn't happen this season is....?

I don't know, and I did not think to inquire at the time I asked the question.  :-\

Ralph,
Thanks for the info that you did find; just looking for the NCAA to follow thru on their professed guidelines; unhappy when the rules change after the game starts somewhat like Bud Selig changing the rules of baseball for the World Series.
