Projected Pool B for 2009-10.  I count 27  26.  If the access ratio is greater than 9.00, then this means there will be 2 bids.

Northeast (10) -- NECC has 9 teams.  (The NECC should be Pool A in 2010-11.)  UM-Presque Isle.
East (1) -- New Rochelle.
Atlantic (1) -- LAND-8, St Elizabeth Trinity DC.   (Landmark Conference gets it Pool A in 2009-10. St Elizabeth joins the NEAC in 2009-10.)
Mid-Atlantic -- (0)
South (2  1 ) -- Rust and Salem.
Great Lakes -- (0)
Central (2) -- Finlandia, Mount Mary* (*Mount Mary is currently 4th-year repeat provisional for 2008-09.)
West (11) -- UMAC-8, Chapman, Neb Wesleyan, UC Santa Cruz.  (Presentation becomes a full member. UMAC should get its Pool A bid in 2010-11.)

EDIT:  Salem has been invited to join the GSAC.  That should make 26 teams, which will give 2 Pool B bids.   -- 16 May 2009

Ralph Turner

Salem joins the GSAC.

QuoteGSAC institutions will adjust individual sports schedules to include Salem during the 2009-10 season. Qualification for postseason play will depend on the scheduling criteria of individual sports and, in some cases, may have to be delayed until the following year.

Women's 2010 Handbook

4 Pool B bids are mentioned.  However, there are only 26 Pool B schools noted and the access ratio is 1:9.634.

There should be 2 more Pool C bids and 2 fewer Pool B bids.

The women's handbook is not as well organized as the men's.  (Corrections are appreciated.)

Here are the 25 Pool B teams.

The UMAC-8
The NECC-9
New Rochelle
Trinity DC
Rust
Finlandia
Mount Mary
Chapman
UC Santa Cruz
Neb Wesleyan.

This season, St Elizabeth has joined the NEAC and Salem has joined the GSAC.

Adding those 2 schools to Pool A conferences changes the access ratio to (397 schools divided by 41 Pool A  conferences =) 9.683.

That would require 30 Pool B schools to allocate 3 Pool B bids and 39 Pool  B schools for 4 Pool B bids.

The Handbook does mention that 2 schools have declared for the NAIA championship.  I assume that Menlo is one. I can only guess that Neb Wesleyan is the other.  The NAIA website does not suggest that tho'.

Four Pool B's is an increase of one, right? Does that pass the Ralph Turner test?

Thanks for the shout-out.

I don't think that it does.  Please see the previous post.

Does this mean we can't follow their men's team in their quest for a W?

Once again, Ralph Turner affects positive change.

Great facts to know.  I've often said to kids as they make it to the tourney that 200 other teams would like the chance you have.  Had no idea that it was 421.  Shows again what an honor it is to make it to the NCAA's.  Certainly nothing to take for granted.....nor is any tournament win.

No Pool B teams were present in the Regional Rankings.

Northwestern MN (UMAC) is 11-8 overall /11-8 in-region /6-2 conference.  The games against the WIAC and MIAC and IIAC schools will help the OWP/OOWP.  (.408 OWP/ .480 OOWP/ .432 SOS)

Chapman (independent) is 11-10/9-8.  They have a good win over UTDallas.  (.502 OWP/ .508 OOWP/ .504 SOS)

NECC is led by Daniel Webster 14-4/14-4/9-0.   (.420 OWP/ .480 OOWP/ .432).  They are likely to run the table and end up with an in-region record of 21-4 and then move to 23-4 with a conference tourney win.

I am thinking the Daniel Webster has the best shot a Pool B bid at this time, just because of winning percentage.

Chapman has played better opponents, so that might be in their favor.

I don't have access to the deeper data, but those three seem to be the best in Pool B.

Comments appreciated.
