Ronk, there may be a guideline that delays the change in the number of bids by a year or two.  I know that we have seen the slow expansion of the brackets over the years.

Independent College of St Elizabeth, Morristown NJ is joining the NEAC in 2009-10.

One less Pool B team next year.

EDIT:  I clarified the post.  One less Pool B team.  I don't think that single change will change the number of bids.

My lunch meeting canceled.  ;)

My first look thru D3hoops.com's regional listing shows these Pool B candidates.  I count 34 teams.  The access ratio in 2007-08 was 9.615 and I don't think that will change too much in 2008-09.  That gives 3 bids.  The real question is whether we get another bid budgeted for the women, because we added 9 new programs in basketball this year.  (The NCAA funds one bid for every 6.5 participants up to 64.)  If so, we will have a full 64-team bracket.

Northeast (10) -- NECC has 9 teams.  (The NECC should be Pool A in 2010-11.)  UM-Presque Isle.
East (1) -- New Rochelle.
Atlantic (10) -- LAND-8, St Elizabeth, Trinity DC.   (Landmark Conference gets it Pool A in 2009-10. St Elizabeth joins the NEAC in 2009-10.)
Mid-Atlantic -- (0)
South (2) -- Rust and Salem.
Great Lakes -- (0)
Central (1) -- Finlandia
West (10) -- UMAC-7 Chapman, Neb Wesleyan, UC Santa Cruz.  (UMAC should get its Pool A bid in 2010-11.)

Pool B in 2010-11 --   12 Teams -- Probably one Pool B bid.

Northeast (1) -- NECC has 9 teams. (The NECC should be Pool A in 2010-11.)  UM-Presque Isle.
East (1) -- New Rochelle.
Atlantic (1) -- LAND-8, St Elizabeth, Trinity DC.   (Landmark Conference gets it Pool A in 2009-10. St Elizabeth joins the NEAC in 2009-10.)
Mid-Atlantic -- (1)  Lancaster Bible  (unless they join the CSAC or NEAC).
South (2) -- Rust and Salem.
Great Lakes -- (0)
Central (1) -- Finlandia
West (5) -- UMAC-7 Chapman, Neb Wesleyan, UC Santa Cruz plus LaSierra and North Central MN  (UMAC should get its Pool A bid in 2010-11.)

Three Pool B bids in 2009.

Northeast (10) -- NECC-9.  UM-Presque Isle.  The NECC is very weak.  Daniel Webster is 4-3/3-3 in-region. (UMPI appears to be declaring for the NAIA Sunrise Conference.)
East (1) -- New Rochelle.
Atlantic (10) -- LAND-8, St Elizabeth, Trinity DC.   (Moravian is 9-1/8-1; Susquehanna is 9-3/9-3; Catholic is 8-4/6-4.)
Mid-Atlantic -- (0)
South (2) -- Rust and Salem. (Neither are competitive.)
Great Lakes -- (0)
Central (1) -- Finlandia
West (10) -- UMAC-7 Chapman, Neb Wesleyan, UC Santa Cruz. Chapman is 10-6/8-5 with a good OWP/OOWP.  Northland from the UMAC is 6-5/6-5 with a loss to Chapman.

My first look at the women has:

1) Moravian
2) Susquehanna (9-3/9-3)
3) Scranton (7-3/7-3 with a loss to Moravian and in-region win over Kean)  (EDIT:  See Ronk's comments.  :) )
3) Catholic

Catholic and Chapman are on the radar.

Corrections and comments are appreciated.

Ralph,
Thanks for the update; Scranton is 7-3 and I would rank them behind Moravian and ahead of Susquehanna because of SOS.

Ronk, thanks for the comment.  I did not check them out, down at 0-1 in conference.  Scranton is 7-3/7-3 in region, so I would put them ahead of Catholic.

That is a tough women's conference, so someone will be knocked out.  However, there might be 2 or three Pool B bids coming from the Landmark.

(Everyone in Pool B will be glad when the Landmark Conference moves to Pool A!)

Pool B update thru Jan 16th...

(I am getting this draft started this morning while I have time...)

As mentioned above, we have three Pool B bids in 2009.

Northeast (10) -- NECC-9.  UM-Presque Isle.  The NECC is very weak.  Fourth year "Provisional" Mitchell is leading the conference. (UMPI appears to be declaring for the NAIA Sunrise Conference.)
East (1) -- New Rochelle.
Atlantic (10) -- LAND-8, St Elizabeth, Trinity DC.   (See below for the LAND breakout.)
Mid-Atlantic -- (0)
South (2) -- Rust and Salem. (Neither are competitive for the bid.)
Great Lakes -- (0)
Central (1) -- Finlandia
West (10) -- UMAC-7 Chapman, Neb Wesleyan, UC Santa Cruz. Chapman is 12-6/9-5 with a good OWP/OOWP.  MN-Morris is leading the UMAC.

Team........................ Conf... In-reg... Overall
1) Moravian 3-1 12-2 13-2
2) Scranton 3-1 10-4 10-4
3) Catholic 3-1 9-5 10-5
3*) Susquehanna 2-2 10-5 10-5

Chapman is on the radar, but there are four strong teams in the Landmark Conference.  We don't know if Chapman will be regionally ranked.

Corrections and comments are appreciated.

Pat Coleman

For those wondering about the Pool B precedent for so many bids coming from one conference, the Northwest Conference got four Pool B bids in 2000.

As you might expect, the NCAA put them all in one four-team "pod."

I wasn't as broken up by that as I might've been, though. See, the NWC didn't have a conference tournament at that time, so the NCAA funded one for them. And played it in the first two rounds of the NCAA playoffs. :)
