Li'l Giant

Quote from: BashBacker#16 on November 28, 2007, 09:00:43 PMQuestion --- since they corrected us on the correct usage of UW-W, does it bug anyone else that we are the "Lil Giants"?  What is that??  How about Little Giants.

It doesn't bother me one bit to be called Li'l Giants.  :D

We have never been called "Li'l Giants" and it should be corrected.  Sounds like Li'l Abner to me and he ain't no Little Giant.

Li'l Giant

When I was a student (1995-1999) the bookstore sold a white baseball cap with red letters that said "Li'l Giants".

Amen Wabash Hokie!

Those hats should be burned & buried.   :D

Any X's & O's breakdowns yet?

UW-W O-line vs. Bash D-front (DK, Bubba, Gangloff, & Co. better play lights out)
Beaver vs. Pynenberg (wow!)
Bash WRs vs. UW-W D-backs (I have to say, best units each team have faced all year)
Bash O-line vs. UW-W Pass Rush - Bash must give Hudson some time, even on 3 step/quick
Bash Special Teams need to be flawless - deep kick offs, accurate and/or long punts, protect
Bash DBs vs. UW-W passing attack - Bash can't give up big, long plays nor consistently allow 3rd & long conversions

Yeah....you pretty much covered the match-ups......

Hudson and the receivers need to be razor sharp against a quality defensive secondary.  I have know doubt that our guys will get open and our line will give Hudson some time to find them.  They may just not be open for long and the yardage after the catch may be a little less.  Capital's D in 05 was like that.  We completed passes, but the defense was right there with quality tackling.  Which brings me to my next point.

The Little Giants making sure to make solid tackles on Beaver and co. will be a key. (I am sure easier said then done)  His size, 5' 9" 200ish make him a tough target with speed.   We need to keep him contained and not miss tackles.

Preventing big plays is another key.  If you study the boxscore in the NCC game, UW-W broke NCC's back after pulling within 3 points on a 79 yard TD pass.   Can't happen on Saturday.

Also, our defense cannot get lulled to sleep trying to shut down Beaver.  Their QB and receiving corp is quality and will most likely try to pick their spots to try and catch our safeties moving in on the snap.   Each player on defense is going to have to hold their own and make it happen.  NN will have them ready.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if their first offensive play is a pass.

1st series against NCC

First play - Beaver rushed for 1 yard
3 - running plays - for 2 yards
2 - Passing first downs (20 yards)
2 - QB sacks
Punt

1st series against Capital

First play pass - incomplete
Beaver rushed for 2
Pass - Incomplete
Punt

I would take both of these results on Saturday.  ;)

Guilty as charged for using the phrase, Li'l Giants.  Don't know where I read it but I thought that was the acceptable way.  My sincere apologies to the Little Giant's players and fans.

I am certain that the Warhawk crowd will react favorably to the way Wabash fans celebrate and treasure the game, and I am certain they will actually CHEER and not act like it's a cotillion.

Wait it's...?  But...
I just got my down lined petticoat back from the cleaners and now I can't wear it to the game?

Based on what I saw on the Case video, don't hold your breath waiting on deep kickoffs.  Good news was the kickoffs were so short, the cover team didn't have far to travel, and there wasn't much return yardage.

Wabash score and kicks off too much to have a rough kicking game.  Although PATS have gotten much better the last half of the season.  Hopefully we will see the Frosh kicker booming them on Saturday.  Can't give this team short fields.

All things considered it has been a good run for Wabash...I'm just not sure they match up well with UWW, but I could see it turning into a 24-21  ;) type of game.

My 2 cents

1.  Both teams put pressure on the QB with their front 4
-UWW slight advantage because they run the ball so well so they won't be forced to drop back as much.  Out of the other side of my mouth I'll say that Wabash can nuetralize the UWW pass rush with their screen and 3-step passes.

2.  Both teams can light up the score board while playing great "D"
-Again advantage UWW eventhough I think Wabash has a better defensive unit.  I think UWW will be able to stop the run without loading the box....this will help them keep Russell and Co. in front of them (they only surrender 89 passing yards per game).  Wabash on the other hand plays with 8 in the box as their base...if they struggle to contain Beaver they will have to get the 9th man (FS) more involved.  When this happens the corners have to play even softer opening up the short "catch & run" type of routes UWW likes.  This worked well for DPU.  Beaver is about 30 yards per game better than Marks

3.  My gut feeling is UWW is just a better football team
I know common opponent is not a great predictor in College Football but these margin's of victory are crazy:

UWW Beat UMHB 41-14
UMHB Beat Trinity 55-23
Trinity Beat DePauw 43-28
DePauw Beat Wabash 24-21

UWW vs. Wabash???? ....Wabash will fight them to the death and UWW has looked very "human" thus far....it appears UWW should advance but thats why they play the game!

The weather forecast is getting interesting

Saturday
Cloudy. Snow likely in the morning...then sleet... snow and rain likely in the afternoon. Some snow accumulations. Highs in the lower 30s. Chance of precipitation 70 percent.

Turnovers might be even more of a deciding factor in this game.

as seen the other nigth in the Steeler/Doplphin game....bad conditions usually go a long way to keepin the underdog in the game...so depending on what side of the fence you sit (or perceive yourself to sit) I guess the forecast is good news
