there is a bevy of available talent at Michigan ... with all 9 assistants fired by the newby.

wabco:

I agree with you.  One question though:  where did you hear/see that?  I tried to find it on the U of Mich official athletics website, however, nothing is mentioned (in fact, all assistants and support staff bios are still posted).  Anyway, I figured that would happen, although am not in agreement with it.  There are certainly 2-3 assistants who IMO should have been kept (especially since some were U of Mich alum/players).  However, I did hear that Fred Jackson was going to be retained.

I wonder how much input Carr (as far as opinion) was allowed in this?  Most likely, none, since a new hc has the perogative of building his own staff.  Still, I do, though, think Rodriquez should have kept some.  Doesn't surprise me in regards to his slightly seemingly "cowboy" image (yet certainly not in the realm of John L. Smith, former Mich State hc. ;D

As I mentioned before, I am not a fan of Rodriguez and although many have said he probably would bring a new style of football to Michigan for sure, nonetheless, I would venture to say that he better have some success in his first year or he'll have all kinds of disgruntled people chomping at his back.  I am skeptical, but in fairness, will keep an open mind like most people will I believe and see what plays out.

Signed,
Not convinced or thrilled ;D

QuoteAre you freaking kidding me??  Chris Creighton swapped for Derek Moyers?  Nothing against Coach Moyers but you think that would be a good hire?  Is he your brother or something?  He was the head coach at CASCADE H.S............ Indiana Class 2A school in Hendricks County - CASCADE H.S...........and then has 1 great year at 5A Pike but c'mon.  They were such a powerhouse that they sent their stud QB to Ferris State!  Plus he is a Hanover grad, why didn't they hire him?  I don't think there is any doubt that Wabash could get a guy on a much higher level.

Apparently the press conference has been moved to tomorrow at 2 P.M.  Bad weather was stated as the reason.  Maybe he's having second thoughts?

NN is the pivotal figure here.  If he stays, we need a stud Offensive Coordinator.  If NN leaves...yikes...we need a D-coordinator & an Offensive Coordinator.

I am no fan of Wabash---but thank you for stating what should be obvious. No disrespect to Coach Moyers---good guy and good coach who has really bright future IMO---but come on.  Coach Creighton (and others before him) have built a program... would think that this would be an attractive position for some pretty talented college coaches...

My question is---what about the offense?

QuoteAssuming Neathery follows CC to Drake, what about somebody like Derek Moyers - good success at Cascade, goes to Pike and takes team to state championship game in his first year, pretty young guy to whom players can relate, knows the talent in Central Indiana.

BTW, I am sure Coach Moyers would be the first to say that his success at Pike is due in part to the EXCELlENT job done by his predecessor, Coach Wilkins. He got kids out of the halls and onto the field and put Pike in a position to be competitive...

Relax...why don't we all just sit back and wait and see who Wabash starts talking to and who they eventually bring in (whether it's NN or somebody else).  There's a lot of talented kids coming back on that side of the ball...I doubt that the bottom is going to fall out of the Wabash offense.  It may very well have a different look in 2008, but the talent is too good to magically morph into a team that scores 8 points per game.

So how does the front page poll get off having a choice of "Same as before his hiring---about .500"?!?!?

Is that a joke?  Do the editors of this thing just make stuff up?  Or are they just too lazy to actually look it up???   Maybe they are just trying to be cute??

This is a false choice.  Wabash's record during the immediate ten years prior to CC's hire is 62-33.

For you non-math majors and Dannies, that translates to a winning percentage of 65.3%....

a far cry from .500.

Jeez.

For that matter, since I matriculated at Wabash in the Fall of 1978... Wabash has had just one... ONE... losing season (1990).

Somebody +k me for doing the site's research work for them.

1999 (5-5, 5-2 HCAC)
2000 (6-4, 5-2 NCAC)

Just like the other extreme was cited was a short period of time.

2005 (11-1, 7-0 NCAC)
2006 (8-2, 6-1 NCAC)
2007 (11-2, 7-0 NCAC)

Guess that means I can minus-k you for not understanding the question and flying off the handle.

Sorry, that doesn't fly with me.  The question doesn't say two years before his hiring.  The year before his hiring was 6-4.....   .600.  Not .500

"Before his hiring" as far as I am concerned, includes 9-1, 8-2, 7-3, and the like... to the tune of the .653 percentage I calculated for you.

The impression left is that Wabash was a .500 program before he was hired.  Which just isn't true.

Dock me all you want.

Wabash fans should reward me.  Plain and simple.  For defending the 'Bash.  Not to mention damn near freezing my arse at that WW game and withstanding that 9 hour drive home from Whitewater.  vbg

I get your question, Pat.  Like I figured... it was "cute".

Pat Coleman

Nope. It's obvious you're taking offense to it (i.e., your multiple question marks, your assumptions that we didn't look things up, etc.) but it's factually based and I don't see a problem with it.

Sorry, that doesn't fly with me.

What you asked was "how does the front page poll get off" -- that's "how we get off." By using the facts, as I laid them out.

I'm sorry those facts don't "fly with" you but they are actual facts and unless you can point out something in error in the 1999-2000 results (it happens, they were all put into the database by hand over the summer of 2003 or so) then we stand by it.

I mean, the assumption that we made things up or are too lazy to look them up doesn't exactly "fly with me" either. Go figure.

The amount of pity I have for you is unmeasurable.  Woe is you.

EDIT: Upon actually voting in said poll, I find the results to be rather interesting.  Lot of people think very highly of Coach Creighton.  As they should.

I guess I'll be the one to get this board back on point....Celebrating  the Coach that gave Wabash one of the best 7 year runs in over a 100+ years of Wabash Football and looking forward to what is ahead for Wabash.

I have to believe that the Wabash job has to be one of the most attractive openings in DIII right now.  I am sure that no matter what NN decides, very tough decision for he and his family I'm sure, Wabash will be just fine.

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Best wishes to Coach Creighton and the Wabash faithful during this transition.
On another note:

Merry Christmas to all NCAC board posters!

.600 as opposed to .500 sounds like a lot, but when  you're dealing with 10 game seasons, the difference is just one game/year...pretty negligible in the grand scheme.

I think the poll question is interesting...it's a good measure of how much people thought of CC as Wes has mentioned.  I'm not going to alter my expectations for 2008 and beyond until Wabash names a new coach.   :)

Re: the poll.  Some of us have great respect for CC's legacy (and for Wabash) - I voted 'stay about the same' (or however it was worded).

That's short term.  Long term depends on the new hire. ;)
