was an excellent coach, excellent recruiter at Kalamazoo and had excellent teams.

This phrase sounds vaguely familiar to me....

Want to get back to the p[ositive subject of the "hunt":

I believe qualifications for the new Wabash Head Football Coach include:
1)  track record of success which would predict success in the D III elite environment;
2)  team/students like and would "pick" the person;
3)  understands the significance of football to Wabash and the unique experience called "Wabash";
4)  demonstrated record of ability to recruit ... with special ability to recruit for Wabash and get the student athletes who are Wabash Men;
5)  someone who can communicate and will "win" with the constituencies of team, alumni, Wabash community, the reasonable faculty types (the bomb thrower faculty types simply do not count);
6)  someone who will attract talented and committed assistants who understand Wabash;
7)  someone who will continue and build beyond the present winning tradition.

GREAT point. In 5 years or so I want to be able to say that we have taken a step up. Not that CC didn't do great things, but our growth doesn't have to stop just because we changed coaches.

as a relative newbie to wabash and this board, i'm not sure if this is the right forum for this kind of thing ... here goes anyway

a guy that gets some mention on the board every now and then, former wabash receiver and mvp, tony altavilla, went into open heart surgery just a bit ago this afternoon.  evidently, he came down with a flu which turned worse and worked into an infection around his heart.  no further word at this point ...

please keep tony and his family in your prayers!

Hey cheetah, IMO (and I'm sure others here), that indeed is an appropriate topic to mention here on these boards, especially for one of our "DIII own" (even though I do not know Tony).   I join you and other in keeping Tony and his family in prayer right now and in the future.  Please keep us updated as you can.

As a follow up ... received a call from Fran Hollett who related positive results from Tony's sugery ...

You go Tony ... get well.

Hearing some aggressive timelines to fill the BIG SHOES left by CC.  Should be announced in January which would be pretty solid.  Crazy...some of the names that have been mentioned and that have come up in general discussion.

Keeping the faith Bash will knock another one out of the park!

Sorry about the bad joke.

Wabash should take as much time as they need to find the right coach.... would hate to see them rush and pick one that will not be right.

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

I'm not sure "as much time as they need" is the best time frame for any school after the calendar turns over.  I'm sure the administration has already received the paperwork from the most qualified applicants by now.

The recruiting season is underway.  Whoever the new coach is will already be behind in that aspect.  Who is out there right now selling those kids on becoming the next generation of Wabash men?

I interpret "as much time as they need" as to hasten with caution - not wait until March or April, but don't jump on the first warm body that knocks on the door of the Allen Center with a suitcase, clipboard and whistle.
