please spell Coach Raeburn's name correctly (not Reaburn) Sorry for being pedantic, but it has appeared that way more than once. >:(

He's been on the job for three days fellas...let's give him some time.   :)

As for the Hart kid....I hope he gets some help.  I can't imagine the pressure that kid must have been under to be "cool" if he felt like he had to cook up a story like that.

Where the heck was Kevin Hart's coach (who certainly would have know if Cal or Oregon was heavily interested in the kid) to step in and keep this kid from making such a foolish decision?

I agree with Wally, this appeared to be more than a simple HS prank.  This kid needs some help.

Are we sticking with "Erik the Red" as the nickname? Are there even other entries?

Seems perfectly logical to me, even though his hair appears to be dark brown or black. It's fighting a losing battle, it would appear. You have my vote for EtR.

Oh, man. I just remembered the "Big Red" commercial on SNL.

My hat is off to Kevin Hart for spoofing National Signing Day - the ultimate non-news event, a day that only ESPN could love. That anyone could get upset that he made a joke of it is of itself laughable.

It's not sports till it happens between the white lines.

PS No matter whose hat Erik is wearing, he'll always be faithful to The Colour Purple. ;D ;D

Oh no, no, no.  This wasn't satirical commentary on the overblown recruiting process...this kid wanted to be a big time football player so bad that he perpetuated this lie for months and months.  And now the kid is so embarassed and ashamed that he can't go back to school.  This is far, far from funny.

Gene Wojciechowski wrote a really good piece on this for the worldwide leader today.

I think the best thing he can do is perhaps change his name and come east to play D-3 football.

I would have to agree with Wally.   I hope this young man can get the help he needs, and put this behind him.

I hope he gets his chance to play at the next level.  There is no doubt he has the desire.  He has the build to play.  Not sure he has the skill level.  Wishing the best for this very confused young man.  As always.
