Here in Minnesota people are pleased with Tubby, but vexed about the Gophers' hockey. They're currently 7th in the WCHA and have a losing record and may not make the WCHA Final Five tourney. Yipes!
Smeds.... Have you been in Minnesota long enough to go through the high school hockey tournament? Goes on for 3 days, 2 divisions, 8 team brackets, and they play everything out, including consolation rounds that resolve everything down to 7th and 8th place. I think every sheet of ice in the Twin Cities is utilized down to puddles in the parking lots. Been in the North so long I tend to forget such extravaganzas.  Wab64 :)

Sounds like the Wabash athletics facility renovations are in the works with plans.  Timeline is prior to 2009.  Great news and you would think will be a nice boost in recruiting.

Hollett Little Giant Stadium - field turf, new scoreboard, & press box
Baseball - stadium southwest of Allen Center, home plate far SW corner, center field near tennis building
Soccer - field turf and permanent seating where Mud Hollow sits
Practice Fields - field turf, current soccer field where old football practice field was

BashBro - get your checkbook out...  ;D

I just watched "We are Marshall" last night.

Great, great football film.  Some of the football action was over the top - but it always is in football movies.

But I have a question for the old-time Wooster faithful on the board.

Was Jack Lengyel as big a screwball as he was portrayed to be in the movie?

If not, I think he has a defamation case against Matthew MConaghey and the writers of this flick.   ;D

You did see the Wabash Coach and his success there.

You'll have to help me out here, I clearly missed the Wabash connection

Former Wabash HC Stan Parrish went to Marshall after his impressive run at Bash.  I believe he led the Herd to their first winning record since the plane crash.

smedindy

Yep.

1971 - 2-8
1972 - 2-8
1973 - 4-7
1974 - 1-10
1975 - 2-9
1976 - 5-6
1977 - 2-9
1978 - 1-10
1979 - 1-10
1980 - 2-8-1
1981 - 2-9
1982 - 3-8
1983 - 4-7
1984 - 6-5 (Parrish's first year)
1985 - 7-3-1 (Parrish's final year)

Then Parrish tried to turn around Kansas State, a program that was unredeemable at the time and in three years he went 2-9, 0-10-1 and 0-11. Thus endeth Parrish's head coaching career. It's a pity.

Parrish probably should have stayed at Marshall, as they were well on their way to becoming a 1-AA powerhouse with the foundation he built.

Wow!  Thanks for the info. fellas.

I'd give you all some "plus karma" but I'm still a lowly second stringer.

You're halfway there, Joe.  You'll be dishing out karma before Bell this fall.   :)

At the end of the film you see real footage of Marshall and their fans hoisting and carrying Stan around the field on their shoulders after the last game of their first winning season.  I think Stan's second season was to take them to a bowl game ... not sure on this.  Then the BT wooed him away ... along with the Deal boys who followed him from Wabash to Marshall and on to K.  Not sure what happened to them.

Stan Parrish is a heck of a coach and a good man.  His mess at Kansas was a clash of cultures ... His doing it correctly by the rules verses the Oklahoma formula in the conference.  As you can see ... by the rules out there in that mileau results in a disastrous win / loss record ... but no rampage in the community by the "player scholars" a la FSU and the like.

Stan went on to be assistant at Michigan and in the pros at Tampa.  He said ... when recently interviewed ... that looking back ... his best job ever as a coach was to coach the Little Giants.

I knew the Michigan, Tampa Bay part.

I guess I "misremembered" ;D the Marshall K. State part.

Ball State's current QB recruit is because of Stan Parrish Wabash connection, and a former Wabash coach.  Just wanted to throw that out.  It is amazing how far Wabash College reaches.  As always.

Wabco - Marshall was 1-AA during Parrish's term so they weren't eligible for a bowl. They did do well in the playoffs after Parrish left.

The coach who replaced Parrish at K-State, Bill Snyder, built the program up by recruiting jucos and questionable kids and then played a non-conference schedule full of cream puffs, patsies, and stiffs.
