We are also at a point where we need financial aid packages to be strong and competitive.  I hope we compete with the school down 231 because some of our key guys have it to Bash or them.  $$$ talks.

If the packages are roughly equivalent to what they were, um, a few (several? OK, many) years ago, this shouldn't be a problem, at least based on my personal experience (let's just say the folks down south weren't even close to making their situation affordable).  All's well that ends well, as they say.

16 - Thanks for the updates.  I am glad to hear that ER has settled in and is liking what he has seen so far.   The D3 recruiting game is a fragile one.  Thus, information from all sources is difficult.   This is my understanding, I may be wrong.  Thanks again for what you have shared.   I know that ER will pull the best class he can together.

BB16--thanks for the helping of red meat. Wonderful stuff to tide us over and most welcome news. For your post and your piece just before the Whitewater game alone, you deserve your Hall of Fame nomination. Mind, I wasn't there to see you play. Keep your eyes peeled.

BB 16 ... looks like we needed you an the baseball field this past weekend.  Still, the BB team is making positive strides ... and with the new stadium promised and coming "above ground" as to what it is and when it will be ready for use ... it will become a place kids want to come and play in and be a part of ... another assist:  football for baseball and the reverse.

I hated to see CC go ... but renewal is also good ... if the renewal is lead well.  From what I have been able to gather, ER will be a good renewal leader.  Anxious to see the new O schemes as well as D.  We have the upperclass in place to repeat ... along with a new approach to O and D as well. I hope for a good recruiting season ... even with the interregnum of December/January.  I see no reason (shy injuries) for a slip from where we were last year.  Would love to have another chance at Whitewater.  They were good hosts and had a great team in a great facility.  The snow was a b&*%h.  They also pounded us.  Perhaps we can change the last two items.

Recruits:  If you are reading this board ... do not miss out on the Wabash commitment ... Wabash is a lifetime benefit with an outstanding first class four year football experience. Regardless, make sure the college you choose in fact does what you think it will do and do not choose based upon a difference of a few dollars or some puffing.  Over a lifetime ... that is indeed a very small issue verses what the education and college total package focus and support will do for you.

Pretty cool that the Colts drafted Garcon in the 6th round.  He should have an excellent shot - especially in their return game.

Also cool that Wheaton's Studebaker was drafted.

Extremely impressive that Studebaker was drafted out of a D-III despite having not played much this past year.  It makes you wonder where he might have gone if he had a full senior season under his belt.

It will be interesting to see if Garcon can outgrow what many posters have said are his petulant ways. Mayhaps exposure to quality control Coach Metzelaars will assist. PM was drafted in the THIRD round, if memory serves. Metzelaars would appear to have one the longest and steadiest NFL careers of anyone from a d3 background.
Best of luck to both Garcon and Studebaker. By virtue of his name alone, Andy Studebaker should be a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame. I only wish the Bears would have taken him; they have a corner on Hall of Fame names--Bronko Nagurski, Ed Sprinkle, Dick Butkus, etc etc

Pete's 16 yrs. in the league is certainly a new bar in the NFL for d3 players. Current pro London Fletcher is in the midst of a 10+ yr run but given his current age and position is not likely a threat to PM's record. Tom Newberry played for 10 seasons as an OLineman out of Wisconsin LaCrosse and Jeff Query was a 7 season WR from Millikin. I don't know if there will be another 16 season player out of any school in today's NFL. (current players excepted).

Ken Anderson 16 seasons with the Bengals, Augustana.

According to your Wikipedia link, Anderson was drafted in 1971. Division III wasn't formed until '73, so he's not actually a product of D3 as we know it.

Metzelaars is still the bar.  ;)

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

You the man.  Going after Metzelaars is like going against Babe Ruth.  He IS the bar.

Pete is a Portage, Michigan product.  Was recruited by Div I in one sport but wanted to play BB and football and his parents were focused (as well as was Pete) upon his getting a good college education.  So ... he became a Little Giant where he was a standoput in football as tight end and B as center ... and got that good education.  After that he went to Seattle, Buffalo, Carolina and Detroit.  He was the team "community" rep both in Seattle and Buffalo ... where he organized a player basketball team which played for community charity events.  During this period to present he has accomplished interesting things like still married to the same person he found in college, good kids, focuses upon charity and community give back as a central aspect of his being, didn't go the route of wild spending and bling bling, was and remains a leader and overall good man.  I think he still has the Div III BB field goal accuracy percentage ... single game ... which I believe was the Div III chanpionship game (of course ... he was realtively close to the basket with his height and breadth).

You go Pete ..... Also:  GO COLTS AND GO LITTLE GIANTS !!!
