Don't take it wrong, not condoning extracurriculars as the game should be played between the whistles, but that same attitude helped produce the turnover for a go ahead try if memory serves correct.

Kicking the dead sucker, but this is the same reasoning used by any staff whose team commits lots of fouls. It's a double bind. Do what you please if that's your philosophy, but I think it's incorrect to suggest a staff couldn't or wouldn't endorse such behavior. Veiled, indeed.

Who knows, maybe they practice on a field that is five yards wider.   ;)  #3 gets that.

Wally's correct though, 2008 here we come.

???

More likely a go ahead attempt at a field goal or touchdown... "tries" are awarded following an unimpeded, controlled depression of the ball to ground, over the opposition's goal line of the pitch as performed by heathens sans helmets and pads.   ;D

Holy Cow...the Witt-Bash war is on (again) and it's only June!!
Gotta love it ...For the NCAC, it's our Ohio State-Michigan.

How is running down on the Kickoff team and flying into the wedge a dirty play? That is how Wes got hit and consequently hurt.  Mckinley was a wedge breaker and Wes was on the Wedge.  Mckinley got the PF on the onside kick (a totally different play).  Now I am NOT standing up for the Witt players and their last hits, BUT the play that Wes was injured on WAS A CLEAN PLAY!  Football is a rough game and people sometime get hurt.  In this case it was well before the ball carrier was tackled.

wabco

While in the process of turning the page, a few facts:

Wes was speared in the head and suffered a concussion and was out the remainder of the game as well as next 2 weeks.

Mckinley was whistled for 2 (could have been more but if memory serves ... 2) unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for late hits in that game.

Coaches do manage both the game and the players ... by way of contrast ... under CC, if a Wabash player received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, he sat out the remaining minutes of the quarter.  PERIOD.
Obviously not true with Witt.

Referees should know the propensities of errant players before the fact in order to better do their job ... hope they are informed of Mr. McKinley's.

It's gonna be a long summer if this is all we're going to talk about between now and kickoff.

aueagle,
I do agree that Strothers is a force but I don't feel he is even close to Kennon, Lange, and Phillips.  The problem is I just did a Pre-season 1st team all-ncac not a 1st and 2nd team.  But here is a list of some players that didn't make my list but are some of the best the ncac has to offer...

For the record and in fairness to Witt, they actually aren't that bad.

Here's how the NCAC stacked up last year in penalties. (Best to worst, regular season)

1.  Wooster -    45 for 366 yards
2.  Denison -     47 for 406 yards
3.  Gheny -        44 for 440 yards
4.  OWU -          65 for 478 yards
5.  Earlham -     59 for 491 yards
6.  Wabash -     61 for 499 yards
7.  Hiram -         61 for 511 yards
8.  Witt -            63 for 539 yards
9.  Oberlin -       77 for 651 yards
10.  Kenyon -     87 for 825 yards  :o

Now back to your regularly scheduled Summer.

Here is my breakdown of the NCAC preseason outlook.

Allegheny - Always a team to be on the watch for, however I see them going around .500. A pretty difficuly schedule will keep them on their toes every week. They still have a ways to go.

Denison - Love having the Big Red in the conference but they are still a ways from being a contender. Very classy squad from what I have seen in the past, but I'm guessing they will be a 4-6 team.

Earlham - 2-8, 3-7, depending on how they match up with Kenyon. It's hard to say what will happen with team.

Hiram - I'd love to see Hiram win a couple games but I just don't see it happening. Their best chance is the season opener against Gaullaudet.

Kenyon - No Rafael Sanchez is a major sign that this team needs a new base offense for what they do. Their defense has struggled in the past as well which could be bad news for the Lords. Depending on how they do against Earlham will determine the 8th/9th spot in the standings.

Oberlin - After a good conference record from 07' this team will struggle early and finish strong based on their schedule. However they will not crack the top 5 this year in my opinion.

Ohio Wesleyan - If ever a year for the Bishops this is it.  No Wabash on the schedule, and Hymes returning is major for this team. If they beat Wooster and Witt early, watch out.

Wabash - In my opinion are the favorites again. The away game at Wittenberg will determine whether this team goes undefeated or not. Great matchup between QB's.

Wittenberg - Road game against OWU, and home vs Wabash will determine if this team can steal back the title from Wabash. Wittenberg always are ready to play.

Wooster - Sheppard must do big things as well as their WR. Wooster is a respectable game for anybody in the conference.

A great sentiment, Cave2. Having never been married and having no children I have been forced to acknowlege, I really can't relate- but my best wishes also for a happy Fathers' Day. ;)

Wittenberg ranked #11 in Lindy's preseason poll

Does somebody know something we don't?

Also, Wabash is ranked #7.
