Word on the street is that both Tarquino and George from Allegheny will be playing Saturday against Woo. How healthy, who knows. But considering these were probably the Gators' best offensive and defensive players, respectively, last year, this obviously helps them. I think if these guys are a factor, Allegheny will win. Of course, it has rained a lot this week in Mudville, so who knows what may happen. At least there hasn't been a game played there in bad weather yet this year, unlike 2003, when there had already been a game in the mud in non-conference play that set the field back for the whole year.

Just read the Div III piece on Pierre Garcon and Mount Union.

Lets see:

1)  "didn't fare well enough on his SATs" for Div I.  (Hmmmm ... a pattern here ... Mout Union? .... Hmmmm.)

2)  saw Mount Union o TV and just fell in love with the team .... (Oh, really?)

3)  never visited the campus until he showed up in the fall

4)  All Empire 8 selection from Norwich (you don't suppose the Mount fell in love with him do you?)

And from all this and after all this ... the self serving statements eminating from MU coaches ... didn't do anything to get him here  and supprised he was there .................. YEAH ... RIGHT.

Get the new receiver a tutor and business as usual.......

If I'm not mistaken, once you spend a full year at a school, your SAT scores are pretty much irrelevant when compared to your transcript, right? I doubt his SAT scores were a factor in admission to Mount Union.

How do you not fare well enough on your SATs to gain admittance to a Div. 1 school, yet those scores are good enough for Mt. Union?  What, does the school give you an automatic 200 pt boost if you play football?  Wow.

Nice piece on the Bash/OWU matchup...love it on the school's home page!!!

Coach C has some interesting remarks...  Also, love the picture of Parker coming after Sir Louie...

Not really on the subject, but I picked up The Daily Northwestern yesterday (I work there) and on the sports page there was a "Suttometer" that compares Tyrell Sutton's stats to the stats of former freshmen studs Adrian Peterson and Mike Hart their freshman year at week 4 of the season.

Peterson had 87 carries for 546 yards and 6tds
Sutton has 94 carries for 528 yards and 6tds
and Mike Hart had 59 carries for 257 yards and 1td

gil68:

Any word on SCAC's exploring some schedule shifting to allow the DePauw/Trinity game to be made up?

smedindy

Some Trinity fans have said on the SCAC board that its dead, and they're blaming DePauw - but in reality it may be the other schools that are balking.

This board complains about Wabash fans - we got nothin' on the fear and loathing that Trinity fans have.

A source I have at DePauw said it was unlikely the game would be made up.  I was told this last week, I don't know if anything has changed, or what plans have been proposed. It would be disappointing if the game does not get played, but if the scheduling doesn't work out, the SCAC is working on a new tie breaker scenario (discussed by Ron Boerger-BTB on the SCAC board).

I see Witt is starting a new QB this week.  First year transfer Geron Stokes from Urbana.  Lets hope this sparks the Tigers a bit.

If there are several possibilities of where to lay blame and Depauw is one of those possibilities, I think the right thing to do is to blame Depauw.  I learned that in C&T I think.   ;) (I smileyed...it's a joke!)

wooscot-- I'll be in Delaware Saturday.  See if you can't get that fish stringer on loan for the day and show it off for us.  But seriously, if you want to meet up, let me know....we don't have to be unfriendly for two more weeks.  :)

Are SAT scores are ever "defining" at MU.  What we have here is smoke, smoke, smoke ...

1) a past history of smoke
2) now a non-academically qualified Div I goes to Vt.
3) "flowers" as a receiver and is all conference as Frosh
4) "discovers" MU sometime while "flowering"
5) "surprised" MU coaches and admin admit the basket weaver
6) basket weaver never visits MU before school starts ... just saw the MU football team on TV

Smoke, smoke, smoke.  It is fine if you are pleased to win this way ... just would never occur in the NCAC.  That was the only point I was attempting to draw out.   Could be wrong here.  Transcript, shmanscript.

gil68,

Not to lessen the accomplisments of Tyrell Sutton, but Mike Hart didn't become Michigan's starting tailback until the 3rd game of the season, which is why his numbers don't compare so favorably.  Sutton is off to a great start and I bet there are a lot of schools wishing they would have given him a better look (OSU ::)).

My problem isn't so much with MUC as with Norwich.  Since when did Div 3 become a JUCO equivalent?  If he made grades at Norwich (which based on their apparent admissions standards is a given), and those courses transferred to MUC, then his eligibility for MUC isn't in question.  However, if his SAT's weren't good enough for Syracuse (or by association any D-1 school), how in the hell were they good enough to play D3?  Apparently the playing field isn't as level as I had thought.  Silly me. :(
