Smed Indy, don't try that not at Wabash stuff with me.  I had a friend at OWU that transferred to Wabash after two mediocre years as a Bishop.  Denison?  Are you kidding me?  I know they have a great student body, but I also know that they are not scholars across the board the way Oberlin and Kenyon are.  It is my unsderstanding that Denison gives very little financial aid, and most of those students are graduates of some very elite high schools because they could pay for them.  A good high school can prepare you for most colleges.  I also know some people that have gone there, and I wouldn't put them up there with the Kenyon alumni that I know.  All I really know about Wooster is that WooScot had something working in his favor.  Since I don't know about his financial capacity, I guess he could be book smart if what SmedIndy was saying is true.

They'll take the money because they know that a few rich slugs can't really bring down a campus that is 85% or so full of real students.

I am no expert, but I would have to lean on the side of Oldguy.  I would think the full tution students would have a few more chances because they are paying...just my thoughts on the issue.

I will say it because I know it is true here, now. And that's what we're talking about, the here and now. Not in the past. Now!

When 90% of your students get financial aid anyway - full payers aren't a huge issue.  I would suggest you get to know the profile of the students a little better before you run your mouth.

Bh101-- Two freshmen on the o-line?  I would think that to be a cause for concern for the Bishops.  Wabash will throw the best front 7/8 at them that they'll see all year.  I would hope for OWU's sake that these freshmen are quite talented.

OWU also shows a Frosh TE at 215.  The Frosh OT is only listed at 230, the other OT is only 240 along with the Center.  Maybe an advantage for Wabash, one would think so...should be interesting to watch.  I hope Sir Louis has a very long day running for his life.

OWU's two-deep for this Saturday shows five freshmen starting on offense.  Still, I was impressed with their athleticism last year, and if these freshmen have displaced starters from last year,  there is no way the Wabash "D" can relax.  I'm looking for a good, in the trenches, ballgame tomorrow.  We need to be at the top of our game on both sides of the line.  I've not been at the OWU storied stadium before, am looking forward to it.  At least the Wabash fans will be located on the same side of the field, behind our team during the game.  I hope the L'il Giants' contingent is large and loud!  As you say, it is a "huge" game.

Go L'il Giants!

I hope to be at Selby on Sat....I will have a D3 sign  on my car before the game if anyone wants a beverage on me (includes Men of Wabash). We can disagree, yell @ one another & the beverages are still FREE, what a deal. If the spread at 6 1/2 is real, it could be a good one. Hope to see all 6,500 LG's in the visiting side. It would be great to see the one's that make the NCAC board the best one on D3...I hope to be there. GO BISHOPS

Not sure you'll see 6,500 L'il Giant fans there tomorrow, but we'll be well-represented and loud.  :)  Looking forward to the Selby experience and to your homecoming pageantry.  It will be a good game and we look forward to it.  What a great time of year!  My wishes for good, hard-hitting, safe play for both teams.

TU-
You have to be kidding me on the Denison view. Marion River Valley , Highland and Clearfork from Ohio as well as most of the Pa. schools on the roster are your local neighborhood schools. Denison makes no secret about the students they want . Denison will always look for the GPA instead of the ERA. That is the largest recruiting obstacle .
Yes there are many private/elite schools but not the Cleveland St. Ignatius or any known private school football factories.
Oberlin made it known that they were looking to upgrade their athletic teams and in a roundabout way openly admitted to lowering their academic requirements for athletes(within the last 3 years). I am not sure that there were any takers but they at least were upfront about it.
I know that these student athletes work hard. You see less one year wonders at these schools than others . Not a slam and not pointing fingers ,it just happens.
In defense of Mt. Union , elite athletes want to be the best , challenge the best and play for the best ,give the coach credit , give the kid credit . We all look at it a different way.

Little o-linemen...young players...the more I look at this the more it looks like Wabash has a pretty serious size and experience advantage.  I don't know how those tiny linemen are going to keep Lange and White blocked.  I think Wabash may have a bigger advantage in this game that we previously thought.

I started going to Wabash games in 1969 so I could have seen him play or at the very least have a program from the game that might have him listed on the roster (assuming he was on the football team). I have a program from every game I  have attended.

His name is Dave Pettengell.

SmedIndy,

That's exactly what I'm saying.  So few students at any private liberal arts schools can afford the tuition up front.  Anyone knows that and you don't need to check the profile to see that.  As a result, When they see an applicant that might be able to make it and pay full tuition, the schools are often acting in their best interests to accept them.  People that can do both are very few and far between.

What I'm saying is that financial considerations don't enter into the admissions decision. They have no idea of knowing that when the admission decision is made. Trust me.

Does OWU still run the WING-T this year?  If they do, doesn't teams typically put there bigger players at Guard while their more smaller athletic players play Tackle in the Wing-T.  This is obviously different than most offense as generally the Tackles are bigger than the guards in most cases  I have never been on the team that ran the Wing-T but played many.

I have heard you need your best lineman at Guard as well.  Maybe you fellow 'Gheny and OWU Wing Ter's can add some insight.
