Let's compromise. We'll give them Earlham.  : ;)

Makes sense....Earlham owes the UAA a handful of games anyway.   :)

Breaking down the Wabash/Witt match-up by comparing stats from their only common opponent thus far.  (Wash U)

Offensive Production against Wash U.

1st downs -    Bash - 23     Witt - 26
Rushing (net) -   Bash - 222   Witt - 162
Passing -  Bash - 277   Witt - 263
Completion % -  Bash - 66%     Witt - 57.5%
INT's   -  Bash  - 0   Witt - 3
Fumbles lost -   Bash - 0   Witt - 1
Total Offense - Bash - 499    Witt - 425

Defensive Stats against Wash U.  (Wash U offensive stats)

1st downs against -   Bash - 8    Witt - 21
Rushing (net) against -    Bash -14     Witt - 92
Passing against -  Bash - 207   Witt  - 265
Completion % against - Bash - 53%   Witt - 70%
INT's against  -  Bash  - 0   Witt - 1
Fumbles Lost - Bash - 0   Witt - 0
Total offense against -   Bash - 221   Witt - 357

I believe that without the turnovers and injuries, Witt probably wins the Wash U game.  Of course, turnovers and injuries are part of the game.

Thoughts?

so, on a lighter note, when do we find out what kind of fish is added to the stringer?  any suggestions?

The fish for this year's game is the Batfish.  I believe that its already been cut and is waiting for the engraving before being added to the stringer.

The fish used in prior years:  Walleye, Flounder, Crappie, Muskie, Sucker, Sturgeon, Sheepshead, Gar, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass,  Bluegill, Trout, Salmon, Northern Pike, Carp, Catfish, Sting Ray,  Mako Shark, Bluefin Tuna, and Humuhumunukunukuapua'a.

Any suggestions for future years will be considered.   ;D

I think this is a good time to remind everybody that the majority of the coaches in our league picked Wittenberg as the conference favorite.  I should hope that that poll is prominently posted in the locker room this week.   :)

This is the reason  I would like to see the NCAC-UAA schedule evolve into three NCAC teams joining the UAA for football.

Or the UAA becomes associate NCAC members for football.

Don't know if there would be an outcry by Rochester fans if they left the LL for football. Also, that would leave the LL down to seven members for the sport, which makes scheduling funky. From what it looks according to their site, back before the LL changed it's name from the UCAA and got an auto bid, they were members of both the UAA AND the UCAA in football. (Wow...)

You'd have to convince Emory, NYU and Brandeis to add football. I just can't see that those three schools have the inclination, nor the access to facilities, to add the sport.

The discussion of scrambling conferences is intriguing (just like figuring out why Dallas is in the NFC east). Comparing the underlying philosophy of the UAC and NCAC, a compromise would be necessary and unlikely. The NCAC advertises itself as an association of "selective", academically superior institutions, all of which have Phi Beta Kappa chapters, but are liberal arts colleges. The UAC, who all undoubtably have Phi Bete chapters are "full service" universities, with law schools, med schools, etc and are located in large metropolitan areas. Most have as many graduate and professional students as undergraduates. Besides, they have 4 members, 3 of which don't play football, but participate in other sports, to think of.
The NCAC could bring them all in, without sacrificing academic credentials and go to a two division format in football, but the UAC/NCAC would be unwieldy in basketball and other sports. It would certainly be competitive with defending champion-Wash U-in the mix.

Looks like great Football weather in Springfield on Saturday.   Kick-off conditions  - Mostly Sunny, Mid- 50's wind from the North at 9 mph.

Wish I could be there.

Brandeis actually had a football team from 1951 to 1959.  But yeah, I don't see those schools adding football programs.

Can't recall specific circumstances, but Emory made a commitment years ago to never field a gridiron team - though they offer everything else under the sun...

I am going to be at a wedding this saturday.  Don't see anyway I will have internet access.  Was wondering if someone could send me text message with score updates at end of quarters and final score.  If so email me at fijidoc@insightbb.com and I will send you my phone number.  Thanks.
