we also took one of the biggest drops on d3 poll i can remember! YIKES!!!

Well deserved, based on what I saw.

Question before I shred all memories of this game and look toward Case - is this debacle all on the players and just cruddy execution, or does this get into lack of preparation?  I find the latter hard to believe, so I'm leaning toward "just one of those days", but some of you former players may have a different perspective.

Since Woo was #8 in the final (published) regional rankings and crushed 7-2 Witt, while Wheaton was unranked and crushed 5-4 Carthage, yet Wheaton obviously jumped Woo to get in while Woo stays home, I'm surprised at the lack of 'gnashing of teeth'.  Speculation is that Wabash's loss cost Woo big time, but I'm not sure I can totally buy that.

Witt was 6-3 coming to Woo, not 7-2......lost by 3 to Washington, Allegheny, and Wabash before being crushed by Woo. Wabash's unfortunate performance against DePauw surely didn't help.....However, ones destiny is better determined when the outcome is in your own hands and not dependent on the misfortunes of others.....so my 'gnashing of teeth" came much earlier in the season when Woo lost to Case and Wabash.

No shame for Woo in an 8-2 season and did I mention........thumping Witt?  ;D

Especially with a team made up of mainly sophmores and juniors...I'm looking forward to what next year may bring for the Scots!

GREAT SEASON SCOTS!

It's too bad things did not fall into place......but as Scotlass said, we had our chances with Case and Wabash during the season. I think this will only push the team harder during the offseason and into the 2009 season. They have A LOT of returners on both sides of the ball and next year looks very promissing. Congratulations to the team and especially the Seniors as you have made us all very proud. Good luck in the future and your upcoming adventures in "life".

PS...The Witt game was GREAT, I had no clue we had only beaten them 3 times (4 now) in the past 50 years.

"No matter what the Scots' playoff fate, the seniors on the team will never forget the win over the Tigers. It was Wooster's biggest margin of victory over the Tigers since 1948 (31-7)."

"We're all a family out here," LeMasters(Cam, Sr O-line) said. "It feels good to go out on top with my family, especially against Wittenberg."

And what a great day it was. Here's looking to great things in the future ;)

GO SCOTS!!!!

I think the Wooster Pool C debate also needs to keep in mind that Wabash's ugly loss hurt Wooster too.  Finishing 8-2 from a conference with an undefeated, highly ranked champion is a lot different than what it ended up.  If Wabash wins, then Wooster probably makes it over Wheaton.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Hey Bashers......word was the preparation was sound coming into the Bell game.  Coaches and players seemed ready....so who KNOWS what happened in that frickin' game.

Suck it up and get ready for the play-offs.  Can you imagine how much WORSE it would be if Saturday was your last game?  Redemption is possible!

Yes, it's one thing to lose to the No. 2 or 3 team in the regional rankings but another when that team is No. 6.

Le sigh...

But skunks is right.  There is more football to be played and I believe that if Wabash can shake off whatever it was that they had on Saturday, the opportunity exists for a very deep run in this tournament.

I think so, too. I think a regional championship is within reason, certainly more so than last year. A couple pretty good teams before that point, but a really favorable draw in my opinion.

Thinking you're prepared and being prepared ain't the same and I think we watched a whole half of football with one team playing catch up. I would hope Wabash is preparing for this next week accordingly (and of course they are) as I think it'd be a huge mistake to attribute the loss as you have (and that's not meant antagonistically, it's just you're not the first to offer that kind of analysis): chalking it up to nothing but that screwy throw-out-the-records, anything-can-happen bell game where nothing else matters (whatever that means). We did throw out the records and anything did happen, but it wasn't mysterious. Or at least it shouldn't be. One team threw the ball wherever they damn well pleased (because, it seemed, they knew our coverage inside and out), confused the hell out of our quarterback (scoring 20 first half points off those turnovers!), and in the end put up a hell of a lot more points than we did because we couldn't fix it. Not in time, anyway.

Technically, now only 3 times (1997, 2004, 2008).  Prior to 1997, Wooster's last win over Witt was 1949.  Perhaps you are thinking of came in 1970, when Witt beat Woo 35-0, but was forced to forfeit due to an ineligible player.  If you look in the archives, the school still chalks that one up as a loss.

With that said, great win for Wooster.  Those guys had a great season.  Hopefully this win, only 4 years removed from the last against Witt, is a sign that alumni won't have to wait for long spans in between wins.

Too bad they didn't make it into the playoffs.  Hopefully this will leave a bitter taste in the mouth of those that return next year to inspire hard work in the off season.  It should also help boost recruiting for next year (that is if talent is not scared off by the youth of this year's team).

Now that the fog is beginning to lift after this weekend's beatdown, I am left with a couple of thoughts.

First, Congrats to Wooster and their great season, look forward to seeing Holter light it up next year.  Very impressive win on Saturday.

Second, the nightmare of Saturday is over, we must learn from it and prepare for Case.
