Sorry Pat.  I just thought it was odd.

Not you, talking about the smart-ass comments after yours.

Wally:
Thanks for the follow-up info.

BashDad:
Ditto to you.  Yes, sounds like it was a great day.  The Shelby Stadium is a neat historic one.  Maybe we'll get the chance to play there someday.  Also, you are right - even if an away contingent is not huge, still vocal supports means alot to any team.  Of course, a win like that always makes a long trip back home so much more enjoyable! ;D

Thanks for the well wishes on our first win.  It was a gorgeous day and indeed a much better feeling to at least start back on track, especially for the league games.  We still have a tough road to go, but will not give up (to borrow your Wabash slogan, "we'll always fight too! ;))
Yes, talk to you later.  Have a good week.

Re: your thought on Colorado College.  That might not be an impossible task, unless they just want to remain an independent.  As you know, since they've been an independent, their travel schedule all over the country and the associated costs have apparently not been a detriment for a very long time.  Yet joining a conference would obviously provide them with a better opportunity at making the playoffs sometime.

A few first-hand observations from the Wooster-Allegheny game:

I got to believe that if Tarquinio and George were healthy for the first three games of the season, that Allegheny would have beaten B-W and Westminster. Those guys can play. Tarquinio is probably the second-best running back in the NCAC behind Murray (I'll get to see Coombs this weekend).

Allegheny has a very good offensive line. Wooster had trouble getting to the quarterback and the Gators were able to run the ball real well in the second half.

Allegheny's secondary is a major weakness. Not only did Wooster receivers get open, but they also broke a lot of tackles as well.

For Wooster, besides Schafer's customary one or two bad passes, he looked about as good as he has at Wooster. His touchdown throw to Gertz in the first half was pretty impressive, as he threw running to his left about 30 yards down field.

Wooster's offensive line did an excellent job blocking for its backs. The offensive looked a lot better than I thought it would. The defense didn't look great Saturday. Wooster needs to get more consistent pressure on the quarterback without blitzing.

The officiating was extremely poor. I would have said the refs had it out for Wooster (check the penalty total, plus the couple call I saw made or not made were pretty bad) if it were not for a huge blunder by the refs in the fourth quarter. With the Gators down three points, the refs called Allegheny for offensive pass interference inside the Wooster 10 yard line on third down. They marked off 15 yards, but didn't replay the down. Instead, they made it 4th down, and Allegheny had to kick a long field goal, which luckily for them was good.

Seinfeld,

I thought offensive pass interference was an automatic loss of down.

Seinfeld,

Curious...did George make that much of a difference to the Gheny D?  I am not familiar with him as a player, honest question.  Reason I ask?  They rushed for 142, passed for 384, and totaled 526 yards of total offense!!!  Both defenses seemed a bit shaky to me...how about Gheny scoring in 3 plays to tie the game late in the 4th?

I realize we have a lot of football to play but I am anxious to see the Bash D vs. Murray (Witt), Tarquinio (Gheny), and Shafer & Co. (Woo).

Kcreds - regarding your remarks on the Wabash rushing game.  Roop had 98 yards on 19 carries (5.2 ave), Ogden & Don Juan added another 61.  None of these guys are real flashy but they give 3 very different looks and are getting it done.

How about Harbaugh's numbers thus far this seaon?  10 TDs, 1 INT, off the chart efficiency rating (around 175), no picks in his last 119 attempts, for over 1,137 yards, completing over 67% of his passes.   He has a few targets too!   ;D

I saw something tonight at A JV HS game.  The officials called the offense for illegal formation which made the receiver ineligible.  They then called offense pass interference on the ineligible receiver thus resulting in a 15 yard penalty and loss of down.  I have been wathcing football for a long time, and have never seen this called.  Does anyone know was this a legit call?  The play had gone for a 67 yard TD pass.  In return it ended up 4th and long. ???

Mr. Ypsi

I'll take a stab at it, though I am only a certified 'futball' ref, not what we Yanks call football! :D

The penalties should be totally separate - being ineligible does not make him automatically guilty of interference.  IF he was guilty of interference, the opposing team would, of course, select the more severe penalty - 15 yards and loss of down.  If they walked off MORE than 15 yards, I believe they were in error.
