QuoteCongratulations to former Wabash head coach Stan Parrish, who will succeed Brady Hoke as the head coach at Ball State.  He will also continue as offensive coordinator.

First sales job will be convincing Nate Davis to return.

Perhaps after last night, it is Davis who should be begging Parrish to return.  ;)

No kidding.  How much money did that kid cost himself in the last four weeks?

I heard that Davis actually turned the ball over three more times on the flight back from Mobile.

Ouch! I was actually feeling sorry for him. Hopefully he learns from it and gets better. Another year with a qb/offensive mind like Parrish would probably do him alot of good.

LOL.  I been watching Davis since the Ohio HS all star game.  I have been impressed with Davis ever since.  The last 2 games he has played have been unbelievably horrid.  I don't think Davis has any choice but to come back and redeem his self.  No doubt he has the skill level to play at the next level, but when he was thrusted into the national light, he choked.

If Davis decides to leave, Ball State has a great QB in Kelly Page a freshman from Mesquite Texas.  I watched him play in HS.  He is the real deal, and was rated the #10 HS QB in 2007 by ESPN.  As always.

Breaking news...Davis declared for the draft earlier this week.

I'll provide a counterpoint to FS4, there.

I think it's the perfect time for him to go.  I don't think his stock will be higher a year from now.  I don't think Ball St. will have nearly as good of a season next year, and I don't think Nate's numbers will be nearly as high.  Nothing against Coach Parrish, but I think that this past season was one of those "right coach with the right group of guys" kind of teams.

You might say that he choked against Tulsa, and that's probably true to some extent, but I say that the whole team mailed it in because the coach took off for more money and palm trees.  Maybe he doesn't project as the first or second or even third QB in the draft this year, but there are probably more than 2 teams out there looking for a quarterback.

It's also noteworthy that the 2009 quarterback draft class is unbelievably weak.  When Bradford and Tebow and McCoy all decided to stay, a lot of the second tier quarterbacks moved way up on the draft board.  I doubt Sanchez from USC would have jumped if Tebow and Bradford also declared.  Can't blame Davis for cashing in now, although he's not going into the draft process on the best of notes.

Personally, I think these kids should listen to Mr. T:

Absolutely agree...and I would assume that's what prompted Davis to go. And you can't blame him for cashing in if he can do it...just wonder where he'll go (both in terms of pick and team)...if he goes to a decent team where he can learn and come along it couldl be great for him.

Maybe...Davis has great raw ability, but I think he could benefit from another year of work, especially with a mentor like Coach Parrish, who, of course, is the guy who recruited him. I think he can stand to improve his mechanics; and obviously he can be a little sloppy with the ball...if he fumbles 8 or 9 times against Buffalo and Tulsa...what do you think happens at the next level???

At the end of the day I hope it works out for him...and I hope Ball State can continue to enjoy success...

Being an understudy at the pro level may be what he needs.

Even Brett Favre Brett Favre Brett Favre (thanks TMQ) needed some time as a backup, and only started at Green Bay because Holmgren benched the Majik man! (Wow, that's a name outta the past!)

Bishop 2009 Grid Schedule is out......
@ CMU
    COW
@ Witt
    Oberlin
These are the first 4 games....OWU lost to
all 4 by allowing 115 pts & scoring 24.....
Wesleyan must come out of the gate very
strong this season...something that has not happened
in many years. I heard many players are working their
butts off to get bigger...stronger....faster...We need it.

So that means Hollway will be back, right?

wally_wabash

You'd have to think so.  The season for coaching moves is pretty much done and over with at this point.

And addition of freshmen recruits about to start.  Little Giants need an impact RB.

"Veteran head coach Mike Hollway will seek to take the next step in returning Battling Bishop football to national prominence by reclaiming the North Coast Athletic Conference championship and advancing to the NCAA Division III playoffs."

This has been the tagline in the Bishop media guide for years.....some are still waiting for the desired results.....

Aging into the later 50's and with 20 seasons in Delaware (119-80-1), and no real pressure or media/coaching predictions to win (modern championships in 1971 & 1989), who knows how much longer the status quo will remain for the Bishops.
