Agree with you about Franklin, wabco...but you'll notice that there are only four teams in this top 25 that weren't in the last top 25 from 2008.  Inertia from the previous season counts for a ton in this preseason polling.

Franklin did fall 11 spots. The three teams right behind them went a combined 0-1 in the playoffs last year. While Franklin wasn't on my ballot, I can see why other voters were hesitant to drop them farther.

luvncac: Cleveland is my hometown. Over the years, as the football program at OWU has declined, information is harder to obtain. Transparency is not the rule.
I am familiar with the Walls...Mark had it tough in 2008; after 2nd team NCAC in '07. Saw the tape on brother Erik....throws the bomb alot....my concern is footwork & the loft he has on the ball. He needs a big year. Funny, how the brothers are both 6'6".
Wittenberg has 6 guys from Columbus & 1 from Sunbury.....The Bishops can't afford to let talent slip away. With the 2009 Coaches Poll out and OWU now in the bottom half of the conference at #6...and the Big Red now ahead of the Bishops....2009 could be very, very tough.
Rumor mill had a 6'2" 215 lbs LB from South Fla. (Glades Central) to be in fall camp as well as the possibility that QB Fisher might not.

Thanks Aueagle,

Hope more kids like the one from Florida show up on the roster this year; I've met Coach Hollway and he's a good person who deserves more success then he's had lately.  I find your perspective interesting because the local newspaper is as bad as it gets on any OWU athletics and since I've retired from the Postal Service I've made it one of my hobbies to follow local kids and OWU.  I agree that more local athletes should compete for OWU but I find myself traveling mainly to Otterbein, Urbana, Heidelberg, Ohio Northern, and Capital when I go and watch a Delaware County boy or girl compete.

luvncac: I've met "H" too...and he seems like a decent human being.....but, for years I've said we CAN win championships in Delaware...BUT, we don't...we don't even COMPETE. The rise of Otterbein (the polls this year alone) & Capital are very frustrating....When I read the Gazette and stories like "Wiffle Ball in Sunbury", it just reminds me of the friction that has & still exists beteween the city & school. That has got to end! Promotion for the Bishops needs to step-up.  The Bishops slide has to stop....maybe we can pull some surprises this season. GO BISHOPS

Are you ready for some football?

This has been a long off-season.

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

That is one terse press release.

Shocking, shocking news from Greencastle.  Just when you thought they finally found some stability there.  It will be interesting to see where they go from here...obviously an interim this season, but I think most of us thought Walker was going to be their guy for a long long long time.  Wow indeed, zed.

Seriously, why can't a program as successful as Depauw has been, keep a coach recently?

Sure, they haven't had the national rankings or spotlight of the playoffs or conference championships, but you would think it would be a pretty good job at a quality school.

Hmmmmm......

Ron Boerger brought this up on the SCAC board, but it's a great point.

Published today on the Depauw website, previous to his resignation:

"If you combine the experience and talent level returning, the strength of our incoming class with the momentum from last year, you have a uniquely exciting atmosphere for the upcoming season," head coach Matt Walker said.

juicy, juicy stuff.

Exactly what caused the friction between the Delaware fish wrap and OWU?  That's too bad that the local hometown paper can't support the local college teams a little better.

I know I have had a tendancy to rip on Wooster's fish wrap at times, but one thing they do very well is cover COW sports.  I can't imagine anything ever causing a rift between the college and the paper to make them want to cool on their coverage of Scots sporting events...

Wow. I've known the Walkers all of my life. Something bad must have happened.

A team from Canada joins NCAA Division 3.....The Tigers lose the coach (Somebody knows the real story)...
and we haven't even had the first kick-off yet......This could be some season.
