Terrierbacker

Hi all. This is my first post. Ive been lurking for the past year or two and decided to 'jump in the pool.' As you can tell from my name I'm a Hiram football fan.   Last year was a GREAT year by Hiram standards. Here's hoping they can top last years 3-7 mark. It will be tough but they are certainly capable.

Good luck to all NCAC teams this year. I look forward to contributing to the board. If anyone has any questions about Hiram I can probably answer them as I have a pretty good source.

Terrierbacker -

Welcome to the Board!.....  Yes, last year was a very positive year for Hiram.   Starting off 2-0 and then finishing with a nice win against Oberlin.  Definitely something to build upon.

Hiram has a lot of fans on this board.  Not many posters, so please keep posting.

I see the Dension and Earlham games being the step up for this team in 2009.

Go Terriers!

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Fantastic!  Can't wait to read your take on how the Terriers look heading into the season.

Busy weekend here...Looking forward to hearing reports from other scrimmages as well.  Additionally, anybody interested can follow my tweets from Wabash's Red/White scrimmage tomorrow...full recap to be posted here after the event...and as if that wasn't enough, I plan to have the Week 1 games posted for 2009 NCAC Pick 'Em sometime tomorrow.  Let's get the ball in the air already!

Hello friends:

I posted this on some of the other boards, but just wanted to mention that Hope College is celebrating it's 100th season in football this year.  You might enjoy checking this link out on Hope's athletic website - some neat facts, stories and new researched info regarding Hope's football history.  I know I enjoy those aspects about all the DIII college football programs.

Thats good stuff....   Thanks for sharing.

Also - as Smeds said,  It would be great to have posters contribute to this board from all the NCAC schools.   I know there are many fans that are registered that don't log-in and post and others that haven't registered yet, that should.

Bashbrother:

Thanks for the kind comments.  Also, I agree with you regarding the posting.  While it is great to have the regulars post on our boards, it is even more fun to have posters from the other conference boards share and contribute from time to time, even if their teams are not playing ours in the season at hand.

Tremendous question...I'm working on finding out.  I'll post it here when I get a start time.

Standard Saturday kickoff time of 1:00 p.m. today...if it is as nice in C'ville as it is in Lafayette right now, it's going to be a great afternoon for some football.

A rimshot:

Just checked the St. Scholastica football web site.  Coach Carlson's team has grown (published roster) to 99 student athletes to prepare for for the second year of intercollegiate competition, and the football conference has grown to 10 teams ... with an AQ in 2011.  Most of the 99 are of the freshmsn and sophomore vintage.  Must be a fun and optomistic place.  Good luck Coach Carlson and the St. Scholastica Saints !

reality check

Haven't wandered over here in quite some time.  Last night, I scouted for a future opponent and ran into Wabash's backup QB's dad.  Mr. Ambrosio is quite the promoter of Wabash football out here in Arizona.  This also made the FIRST sighting of anything Division III related in my 3+ years in the dessert.

I encouraged him to start posting as he said he's familiar with the website but I suspect he will remain a "lurker".

Hoping I'll have time to participate in Pick Em's this year with you guys and regain my edge from a couple years ago when I guessed more effectively than normal.

Quick recap from today's Red/White scrimmage in C'ville...

- Hudson only played a couple of series, and looked pretty good I thought.  Accurate and strong.  The highlight for Hudson today would have obviously been the 60 yard Rembrandt he threw to Chamblee on the post (it was quite reminiscent of the TD pass at the end of the CWRU game last year).  That kid throws a great deep ball.

- Speaking of Chamblee, he might have been the MVP today.  He got open regularly, caught everything thrown his way, and made yards after his catches.  All around great day for Wes.

- Wabash's defense stood out today.  For all the plays from scrimmage the offense got today and being given first down situations in all spots of the field, the defense only allowed three scores (the deep bomb to Chamblee, Scott Hunt got the corner on a QB keeper and took it all the way, and Hunt also hooked up with Sorensen for a TD).  The DBs were quick to close on receivers, the DL and LBs were in the backfield quite a bit.  I was very impressed with the LB play...they will definitely be a strength on this team.

Some other players that stood out for me today...

- Matt Kraft...made a fine INT at the goal line to snuff out a drive.  Kraft is a huge help to the defense this year.

- Devin Kelly...big, tall pass catching TE.  He only got a couple of balls today, but he looks like a kid who will fit nicely into the offense.

- Erik Hackett...enormous freshman lineman that the coaches had playing on both lines today.  I don't know where yet, but it's pretty clear that this kid is going to play somewhere.

- Kyle Bottos...freshman CB, made one very nice INT and nearly made another.  He looked pretty comfortable in a position where Wabash isn't super deep.

- The other quarterbacks...for right now, there's a pretty steep drop off after Hudson, but I thought the backup quarterbacks this year look better on average than what I've seen at the R/W in the past.  The 2010 camp battle for that QB spot is going to be a good one.

One more warmup next weekend against Wheaton before the opener vs. Denison on 9/12!
