As much as it pains me to do so, I have to agree with the Wooster posters.  They are just trying to see the positives that this year brings for their team.  I don't know about you guys, but it wouldn't be much fun to come into the season saying that my team is going to be a disappointment and finish 5th in the conference.  Sutton is a huge loss yes, but Tigeralum is right, who knows, a freshman could come in and dazzle everyone.

A similar thing happened at Witt.  There was a season where Casey Donaldson got banged up a bit and had to leave a game or 2 a bit early, and many thought Witt was in trouble.  But in came the backup Grove, and ran up a storm.  Crazy things happen.

wally_wabash

Witt has a defense?  Who knew...

tiger alum...you're right.  There's no need to talk about any of this until after Week 11.  Can we put a moratorium on the board until November 13??  All of this chatter is nonsense anyway, right?  Let's all just step away from this conversation for three months, and then come back only after everything is over.  That would be a lot of fun for everybody.

Oldguy...Casey Donaldson and Daniel Grove are not Tony Sutton.  They were very good, but they weren't Sutton.  And they played alongside much better talent (on average) than Sutton did.  Last year Sutton accounted for 70% of Wooster's rushing yards, 40% of Wooster's all-purpose yards, 39% of Wooster's points, and he touched the ball on 43% of Wooster's plays from scrimmage (and who knows how high that number goes if we exclude the plays after which he was taken out of blowouts)...the point is that offensively there was no Plan B for Wooster last year.  They're starting over from scratch.  That's why this is a bigger deal.

Agreed Seinfeld!!!

Posts like the battle at QB is a legit 4 deep and Lafitte will not be missed?  Wasn't it just 2 years ago when Lafitte was a true freshman, many Bashbackers were claiming that he had the potential to be as good as TS?!  And now that he's gone, its no big deal?!

You constantly nag about Schafer and how he is still unproven, yet, all Schafer has done in his first 2 seasons is garner all-conference honers in each of those 1st 2 seasons.  I failed to see any of the 4 legitimate Wabash QB's on the all-conference list.  Oh yeah, I know what is next to come out of the Bashbackers.  Schafer wouldn't have done it without Sutton.  And you know this how?!  So in the opinions of some Bashbackers, Wooster is returning a 2 time all-conference QB who is still unproven and Wabash is retuning zero all-conference QB's and yet they somehow have 4 legitimate starters.  Yeah, that makes sense?!

QuoteAnd geez, haven't we had this exact same discussion about Wabash fans every year for five years?
That's because you Wabash fans continue to act in this manner every single year.  You are quick to point out the weaknesses in other teams, but it seems like pulling teeth to get Wabash fans to admit weaknesses in their own team!

GO SCOTS!!!

Seinfeld:
"Over the top" needs a little clarification.  A review of the posts on this board since mid-summer would support the fact that L'il Giant fans have been quite restrained really.  It is not "over the top" to have hope, faith and enthusiasm for your team.  It is not "over the top" to suggest that Woo posters are wrong that Tony Sutton not being in the line-up would have brought the same result to Woo's '04 season--look at their success (or lack of it when he was out.  Everyone on this board knows full well that football is a "team" sport, but a kingpin is a kingpin.  Without TS, the Woo team would have been a good team, but not a great one; and, it is very doubtful that they would have run the table in the NCAC.  To state that is not "over the top."  That Bash fans are enthusiastic is not "over the top"--other schools in the NCAC only wish they were so lucky.  This little school from Indiana, half the size of most in the NCAC, carry fans on the road that often equal numbers/vocal support of the "home" fan base--that is not "over the top."  And, we do not apologize for that.

It's too bad to hear of Hewitt's injury and loss to the team.  He was fine.  Hopefully, the talent base at Witt will make up for his not being on the field.

Speaking of losses, the Doug Schmied death of heat stroke at Illinois Wesleyan has to be heart wrenching for any fan of D3 athletics.  Particularly with the recent heat and humidity endured in many late summer camps across the midwest, we can all consider ourselves so lucky.  Again we are reminded of what is important.

scotsFan:

The fact that Shafer has been named "all NCAC" for two years seems a little "over the top" since it was his own supportive coach who gave him the honorable mention status his freshman year.  You might want to review the stats for '03 to see how he compared to other QBs in the league.

HScoach

Tristan Murray better carry the rock a LOT this year.  Ric and I drafted him with our 1st Round (5th overall) pick in the D3 Fantasy League!

Hate to put my hopes on a NCAC guy, but Witt has the tendancy to score 70+ on Hiram and we're looking for points.  Not style......
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

smedindy

I didn't say the QBs would be earth-shattering. You guys read WAAAAAY too much into some things.

There are some of us who do have concerns, and we aired them last year. Some of us don't drink all the kool aid. PLEASE, PLEASE do not lump all Wabash posters into the same group - else I'll have to say Wooster posters are more concerned about how others post about their school than anything else.

And again, check the record in 2004 with Lafitte and without Lafitte. Go ahead...I'm waiting.

Scotty:
What's your point?  I was talking fan base, not those eligible to play the sport.  Did you look at the context of the statement?

WABASH ALWAYS FIGHTS!!

scotty

BashDad, my apologies...in all seriousness, why is it that Wabash fans travel well...

BashDad,

If we have to explain to you about how over the top Wabash posters are, then there is no point even heading down this road. Most Wabash posters just turn every subject around, convolute it to the point no one can remember the original point. Every time you guys say Wabash Always Fights, it implies that no one else does. If you believed everyone did, then that is a pretty dumb slogan, since everyone fights. right?. When you say that your support is so much greater than everyone, it is again another slap to others. Maybe you guys have such a great following because care little about any other sport there?

Oh, and I remember the hope you choke on your vomit comment that you made to a Wooster poster last year. Was that over the top?

BashDad

Seinfeld:

Yes, that was "over the top."

Your logic 101 should have taught you that a oft stated slogan does not become a negative.  Is it in the eye of the beholder?

WABASH ALWAYS FIGHTS!!

who needs Pardon the Interruption...we got it right here...i myself enjoy a good preaseason banter as it get the blood flowing for saturday footballl...

The reason Wabash travels so well is that once a Wally, always a Wally.  Wally's support Wabash for life.  Not only in football, but in life in general.  If there is a Wally with a need.  There will be a Wally there to help.  Make fun all you want, but that's just the way it is.

Smeds,

Enlighten us on the records regarding LaFitte.  If you already have the evidence, then why waste anyone else's time looking it up?
