gotta love when the hometown fish-wrap gives the other team cause for enthusiasm:

I took the bait and read the blog comment.  Interesting that the Springfield FishWrap stores Wittenberg football material under "High School Sports."

With no disrespect intended to any person:  This is not the Carlson era.  He and the teams unbder him did a very fine job, but you cannot use that experience as a measuring stick of what today's team is ... its personnel, quality, intensity.  Nor does a Creighton stick apply.  This is ER time.  His team, his quality, his depth, his intensity and focus, and his instruction.  From what I have seen, I believe we have several very qualified QBs to go with our recievers who catch anything in the zip code, a focused ruinning attack husbanded by a veteran O line ... and a defense which I am happy to match up against Witts (and I believe Witts is outstanding).  While I would rather see Hudson under center or in the gun (the same as I desired Huff ... at the time Wabash learned not to put QBs on special teams) ... that is not the case.  From the Creighton era: we have a sudden change opportunity.  I believe in the character ands quality of our players to rise to the occassion and add more than enough energy.  In fact, I expect a Miracle or else we will just Belt'em[on].  WAF

Now, if you are at the game, come back and have a couple of cool ones with BB 16 and I. We will convert you.  "Try not to worry, try not to turn onto, things that upset you ... everythings all right now, everythings fine..." we will kick the bejeasus out of Witt ... 17-14 ... in a defensive show which will be won by our kicker.

Earlham to the HCAC is done now....I've got plenty of thoughts on this, but I'm pretty busy today and the NCAC game of the year kicks off in 48 hours.  I'll get back to this later, but I wanted to share the link.

Thanks - yep...no reason hit the wrong button.

Take my advice, never, ever trust a two-deep press release when it comes out in the middle of the week.  As of last night Hudson had still not been cleared to play Saturday.  In an article in today's Paper of Montgomery County Coach Raeburn is planning on splitting playing time between Josh Miracle and Chase Belton if Hudson is not cleared to play.  Raeburn said Hudson has been at practice but has not done much.  He also said that because they are similar QB's he can still use the same gameplan for both of the backups.

If Hudson did indeed have a pneomothorax, it would have required insertion of a chest tube (that's through the skin, between the ribs, not down the throat) in order to resolve it.  If you could find a doc to clear someone to play a sport like football (or anything involving strenuous activity and physical violence) within a week of that, I wouldn't want that guy taking care of my kids.
That said, I hope he can play, so there won't be any "if-thens," whatever the outcome.

There won't be any "what if's" of "if then's" when this game is over. The men that play for Wabash will leave it all on the field and I am confident that they will be 6-0 when the dust clears. Call me naive (sp) or a homer or whatever you like, but I believe in these players and what they are capable of. They have not played their best football yet. This Saturday, they will!

Well, this may open up a game in the ol' schedule, because I don't think Earlham is going to run to reschedule Wabash in football again. The implications in baseball and basketball are more resounding, though.

Not naive, (yes, you spelled it correctly) certainly a homer, definitely a cheerleader, all to be expected of a player's Dad.  The "men of Wabash" as well as the "men of Wittenberg" will all certainly "leave it all" on the field Saturday.
Wabash has everything to lose and little to gain. Witt has everything to gain and nothing to lose. This is one intriguing matchup.
Here's hoping for a great game between two good teams who respect each other, and who will "beat the bejesus out of" each other, with one team winning by a field goal.
Or a huge blowout by Witt, I could go either way.
Cheers.

While it's comforting to think Wabash has so badly wounded the collective ego of Witt and it's followers, I doubt any of the tiger players would agree that they have 'nothing to lose' on saturday.

I think losing six times in the past eight meetings have left that program surely pissed.

Even more than this, I think the intensity also comes from the fact that Witt's last three losses to Wabash come from a combined 16 points. That's a repetitious so-close-yet-so-far feeling.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Bashdad,
It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside that you found comfort in my post.  I do feel flattered, also, that you think my 2 posts represent "the collective ego of Witt and its' followers."
My reference to "nothing  to lose" refers to the lack of respect for Witt in the preseason, and so far this year.
Yes, 6 wins in 8 games by 'Bash hurts.  So does 6 of 7 by Mount Union, but...oh, never mind.
Anyway, here's hoping, for the legions of Witt followers who are represented by my three posts, that something happens Saturday to salve our collective egos.

Schwami

Actually, speaking of the collective ego of Witt and its followers . . . where has everyone been?  ???  Pretty quiet in here from the Witt side.
Long shall we sing thy praises, Old Wabash

BB16 -  Again.... that call yesterday was great.  Need to do it again.

Thank goodness it is Friday.  Game day is tomorrow and as certain I am that the Cougar Flag will be waving on ESPN on tomorrow morning, I am certain that this Wabash coaching staff & team has practiced hard and developed a plan to deal with any situation.

All that is left is the game.   May it be played well, without injury or 15 personal foul "late hit" penalties.  ;)
