BashBacker#16:  You are correct re: the collarbone (clavical) fracture. :(

You are right...Wabash will not deliver any cheap shots, this weekend, or on October 22nd.  The L'il Giants will play hard-nosed football, though.  Anyone under center will see a lot of pressure.  As you I both know, that's the way the game is played.  Just as I hope for safe play every time my own son steps onto the field, I hope all will be able to avoid injury while competing for their respective schools.  The preceding comments regarding Ryan Holmes, including Fincham's comment in the Springfield article, are all in this direction.

The backup QB for Witt in 2002 was Kurt Forrest.  Holmes did not get in either of the two games that Wabash played them.  He was injured, I think.  That would be where his medical red-shirt year stems from.

I like how the Bash O is flying under the radar of many.  It's easy to see how the D is the main focus.   The Oberlin coach, in an article this week, didn't mention defending the Bash offense, which is leading the conference in almost every category.  I like it though.  I hope the offense stays under the radar until the opening kick-off every week.
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

reality: Not that it's important, but when Noll played for Dayton, it was regarded as major college, playing the likes of Cincinnati and Miami (OH).

reality: You better stear clear of the "at the time" concept. I believe Shula, Henry, Conzelman and perhaps others run afoul of it. If one uses a "currently" concept, Hubbard certainly would be DIII.

In theroy, if there is a three way tie, the team that has been the longest from the playoffs whould go.  However, When Woo tied with Witt and Gheny for the title, Gheny was sent instead of Woo.  I believe the argument for the decision was that Woo 's loss occured later in the season than did Gheny's.  Under this philosophy, it looks like Wabash would be going.  If the rule is upheld, then Witt would go.  Let's just hope that Woo or Bash end up with it.  Preferably, Woo.  (begin hissing now)  ;)

That's because when that tie took place (when was that?) there was no automatic bid. So the conference's tiebreakers were irrelevant -- the NCAA took the team that it felt had the best playoff credentials.

Allegheny got it in 1997 not based on any tie-breaker rule. Back then regional committees picked teams. I don't think there were even automatic bids at that time, but I could be wrong about that. One of the reasons that Wooster didn't get in is that the Wooster didn't have a history of success at that point, and therefore were dismissed by the committee. Wooster beat undefeated Witt on the second to last weekend of the season, and moved up one spot in the regional rankings (from like 7th to 6th). That was the respect level for Wooster at that time.

Someone might want to contac the NCAC office about the tie-breaker rule this year. I believe after the usual head-to-head stuff, it is something ridiculous like number of road wins. A good one since we play an unbalanced 7-game schedule.

Well...I'm not so sure, DD.  I guess it would depend on how the NCAC interprets the rule.  If it's simply the team that has been longest without making the playoffs, I'm not sure who you would send because Wabash and Witt both made the playoffs in '02, so technically that's a push and the tie isn't broken.

But really, I'd like to stop thinking about Witt in the playoffs.  Witt's performance against playoff-caliber teams this year tells me that the NCAC is going to get a serious black eye if Witt is our representative.  So let's just beat up on Witt and not have to worry about that.

Is there still a pick'em? How do I get there?

wally_wabash

The pick 'ems were moved to the General Football board...there is a child board there titled "Pick-Ems".
