Needless to say I'd switch those if I could. But at least it wasn't a complete disaster for my teams today.

Ahhhh dammit.  Congrats Witt...live by the last sec FG, die by the last sec FG.

Both Ds looked stellar.  The refs...not so much.

wally_wabash

doc...Wabash didn't lose today because one player did or didn't play.  They lost because a really good team lined up against them and made one more play than the LGs did.  That's how these games have been going for the last five years.

As far as Pool C's go, 9-1 ought to be good enough.  There would have to be a LOT of other 9-1 runners up to squeeze 9-1 Wabash out.  But let's not be presumptuous here...there's a challenging game in Wooster next week and a Bell game left to play which very, very possibly could be a winner in/loser out game.  That would be fun.

Man I don't know if I can cheer for Depauw to win.

I can . . . it is much more satisfying to beat DePauw when they are 9-0 or 8-1 (OK, maybe 7-1 this year) than when they are 0-9  ;D

Hey Witt guys . . . here's hoping you stick around and mix it up in here some more!

How about Adrian Fredrick today.   He made Huffman and the Witt offense, rethink their deep passing game.

4 INT's in one game?  That has to be close to a Bash record.
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

4 interceptions tied a record with someone from the 70's that was an all-american they said on the TV broadcast.

Interesting thing was nobody has ever had 3 interceptions in a game.  Tons have had 2 int's in game and now two with 4 int's in game but nobody every with 3 in a game.  How wierd?

One last thought before I head for a night out.....

That is personally the most inspiring defensive performance I have seen from a Bash D, since the 2005 Capital playoff game.  Well done Hard Hats!  Bravo.

The LG's have to win out.  The selection committee will most  likely be kind as they are still greatly embarassed by the outrageous behavior of the selection committee 27 years ago leaving an undefeated Wabash team out of the big dance  in 1982 despite having been ranked number 1 in the nation.  The horrible stench of their action only grows stronger with time.  I suspect that is because as  the infamous members of that committee pass away and are buried head first in cow dung in the lowest level of Dante's Inferno, the stench only grows worse.

Joe Haklin from 1971 vs Hanover.  Earlier referred in jest that he and Roscoe "Lee" Fouts were the leading receivers of the late Urick years.   ;)

Poor refs and a couple of special teams' miscues aside, bad snaps and procedure penalties stole momentum on three potential drives.  That just can't be done against a team the caliber of Wittenberg.  Was impressed/depressed with Huffman's ability to run and hope adjustments are made to accommodate Holter and Dick in coming weeks.

All in all, it was one hell of a great game to watch!  My dog's vocabulary is far more advanced this evening. ::)

I suspect this is being said tongue-in-cheek but I am pretty sure nobody on the committee cares about this.

Too soon to tell so far but I don't think Wabash is out of the running for an at-large bid at all.

The best way to insure a "C" is to go 9-1. No ifs ands or buts.

I don't know where this myth started that the 1982 Wabash football team was ever ranked #1 in the nation.  The top ten poll never had Wabash rated above its final ranking of #6.  And that poll had nothing to do with the selection or non-selection of post-season bids.

In 1982 there were only 8 teams selected to the playoffs and the committees could only send 2 teams from each of the 4 regions.  Wabash was #3 on the North selection committee list throughout  all of the meeting sessions.  Wabash in reality was the only top 10 team from the last poll not to be selected to play in the playoffs.

For those people who have access to Wabash media guides...don't you think a college that has as long and storied history would have mentioned an unprecedented event such as being ranked #1 somewhere in there?  Besides  that I was still very close to the program and keeping clippings of the season at the time.  There is no story concerning a #1 ranking.

In checking my personal record book I found this information...the 1981 team achieved Wabash's highest ranking ever (up to that date) on October 26 and November 2, 1981.  For two weeks Wabash was ranked 2nd in the nation with 1 first place vote.  This was during the streak of 24 straight games without a defeat.  Unfortunately the season and the streak ended with a loss in the Monon Bell game.  Again this was a year when each of the regions were only allowed to send 2 teams to post-season.

Great info - thanks!

One minor quibble - if 1982 had only 8 teams in the playoffs, Wabash could not have been the only top 10 team omitted from the playoffs! ;)

LGHistorian

Mr. Ypsi-

I did not get back to the board in time to correct that error.  What I intended to say was that Wabash was the highest ranking top ten team not to make the playoffs.  I BELIEVE Wabash was the only team to be ranked in the top ten throughout the ENTIRE season without making the playoffs.

LGH, I kinda suspected that was what you really meant; just havin' a little fun with ya. ;)
