reality check

OK I really didn't anticipate a scroll of the board on a Friday night but here's the (apparently) long-awaited answer directly from the NFL HOF website.

"As a collegian, George once lined up against Ronald Reagan, a guard at Eureka College. Several years later, when the Bears played the College All-Stars his opponent was All-Star Michigan center, Gerald Ford."

There you go.  Now everyone can move on to their Saturday in peace.

*An OAC guy brings up some obscure historical fact and you NCAC academians start running around like chickens with your heads cut off.   ;)

(And before I can even get this typed out, Ypsi finds the answer...funny stuff.)

Actually, rc, while the NCAC posters chimed in, it was me, from the CCIW, who first wondered whether Musso vs. Ford was possible - and I did solve the puzzle 4.5 minutes before you came back on!  ;D

Sorry, didn't notice your last line when I posted this! :(

David Collinge

Yes, Chuck, but you get a demerit for suggesting that Gerald Ford might have been invited to the Vineyard for some touch football.  That wasn't exactly the province of Republicans--at least not before the Governator!  ;)

Mr. Ypsi

David,

Actually the Kennedy's were fairly non-partisan, as long as you were upper class; since Ford was not, I was only joking!

I'm rather abashed that I didn't recall the early days of the NFL - the solution of NFL vs. college all-stars SHOULD have been obvious!  :o

I realize that this is EXTREMELY early to be looking to next seasons schedule, but with the lull of Kenyon week for Woo and Obies for the Bash, I figured what the hey?  Have you guys checked out the schedules yet?  It looks like next year will be a pretty tough gauntlet for the WWWs.

http://www.northcoast.org/pdffiles/schedules/FB06.pdf

If Gheny can come back around to its top tier status, and OWU can stick around, All the top tier teams will have to play two of the others at least once back-to-back.  Of course, it looks like Gheny got the wrong end of the deal having to play three of the top teams in a row.  Unless you take into consideration that Woo has Witt and OWU back-to-back, then later, Gheny and Bash.  Whew!

Sorry if this is looking too far ahead, (specially since the season is only half over), but like I said, I am extremely bored with this weeks games.

Hey, I was covering a high school game tonight, so I wasn't around to google!

And if you really wanna look ahead, here is the new and improved scheduling including the wonderful teams of the UAA,

http://www.northcoast.org/pdffiles/schedules/ncacuaa08.pdf

This scheme looks more like the makings of a super conference.  I personally don't like it.  With the exception of Depauw, Bash plays no one outside the NCAC and the UAA.  Woo and Witt get one game outside of the two conferences.  Makes it pretty difficult if a team wants to build up some post season credibility if it is playing the same teams over and over.  And yes, that is a slap to the UAA!  Gheny has a crappy record, as does Witt.  But give them some credit, they have some pretty good teams on their schedules this year.  I just don't see the room in this set up for future match-ups from the OAC or other conferences.

Welcome to the party DD.  That's been my gripe with the UAA agreement from day one.  The agreement is great for the UAA who has to fill 7 non-con games per team, and it stinks big time for the NCAC, especially the top tier NCAC teams that would prefer to build a stronger non-con schedule.  As I've said before, when teams agree to play in a four team conference, it ought not be our (read: the NCAC's) burden to help them fill out a schedule which is what this boils down to.  I'm hoping that this doesn't extend past the two years that it's been scheduled for already, but I fear that this has the makings of being long term.

And for the record, you won't see me spilling any tears about future Allegheny schedules.  They get WWW and OWU all at home this year.  The Gators have officially used up any favorable scheduling capital they had.

I was going to save this for the off season, but since it has come up again.  What is the posibility of this leading to 2  7-team football conferences each with an AQ?  NC-U Football Alliance West (Chi, WUStL, Wab, Ear, Witt, Den, Ken) and East (All, CMU, CWRU, Hir, Woo, Obe, OWU)?  The 3 central Ohio teams could even shift if needed to maintain balance.  6 Conf games and 4 non (except for Chi which only plays a 9 game sched).  This would give a chance for 2 NCAC or for a truly worthy UAA team to get an AQ.  Earlham would have to join in for it to work and then there's the NCAA's issues for new conferences and waiting periods.

cwru,

I wouldn't hold your breath on your 2-conference idea.  Just my thoughts though.

Well, Wally, Witt, Wooster, Allegheny, OWU, and Wabash all had to sign off on this agreement, did they not?

I would prefer a game against Hanover, but why don't we stop sniping about it NOW, since we have no idea what the shape of any of these programs will be in when the time comes.

If you recall, many of us were excited that we scheduled K-Zoo, because it was good to play an MIAA school. Well, look what they are now.

I am sad to say  :'( that I could not make the Allegheny game this year but I am however very curious if the game will be on the radio/web so that I can listen to it. Can someone, anyone, help me?  ??? Go Bishops! Get tough!  >:(

I recognize the 2 conference idea as a pipe dream, but it would have advantages for both current conferences.  I tend to agree the 08-09 agreement offers more to the UAA teams.
