Thanks DPUFan - very cool. +1

I thought I would post the direct link, so the Depauw faithful would not be challenged to do a search once on the site.  ;D

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Del Valley 3E (Del Val is the only at-large team that has actually beaten a regionally ranked team)

Hmmm . . . Wabash picked up a win over a regionally ranked team this week as Allegheny moved into the regional rankings.  At least for the time being.  I thought that might be enough to keep Wabash ahead of Illinois Wesleyan, but apparently not  :-\

Allegheny is a regional win.  Doh!  I think my quick projection holds though..Del Val ought to be selected in front of Wabash if the selection were today (better SOS figures).

I saw this on another board and shrugged it off at first, but if Allegheny somehow gets over on Wittenberg on Saturday, the Gators get an AQ and Witt and Wabash wind up in Pool C, both at 9-1 and both with a win over a regionally ranked team.  Wabash and Wittenberg would both have very strong resumés for at-large bids.  Could you imagine the kicking and screaming that would happen if the tournament held 3 NCAC teams and just one OAC team?

That was me and I was chided over there for saying it.  Well not really, but I do think its possible like Wally is saying.  How great would that be?

Wally,

While 3 teams from the NCAC is possible, I think it is unlikely regardless
of what happens in the OAC. There is only one  2-loss team in top 10 of the regional rankings, which is Union from from the East.

It is still likely that one or two 8-2 teams make the playoffs, Cap or ONU
would still get strong consideration.

I think the hardest part of the 3 NCAC teams in the tournament idea is Allegheny beating Wittenberg.  That's the most difficult logic leap of faith that has to be made.  9-1 Witt and 9-1 Wabash are hard to leave out based on what is on the board right now.  Wittenberg certainly wouldn't fall out of the regional rankings.  Allegheny obviously would move up. Wabash isn't going anywhere.  I think that win over a regionally ranked opponent is a huge, huge deal and Wittenberg and Wabash would both have one.  Delaware Valley is the only other team on the at-large list that does have one and they're either going to pick up a second loss or be an AQ.

But again, for any of that to play out Allegheny has to win in Springfield and that is going to be very difficult to pull off.  And I still prefer Allegheny to lose Saturday and not have to worry about another 1-loss at large team...particularly one that Wabash lost to h2h.

It took quite a bit of help from Wooster (late turnover, FG off post, another missed FG to tie) for Allegheny to make up a 21-10 deficit and pull out the victory.  I don't think they win that game more than 3 or 4 times out of 10, so I surely don't see them having much of a chance at all of even keeping it close against Witt.  I have been wrong before, though.

If Bethel beats St Thomas this weekend you may see them pop up at the bottom of the west region rankings. That would give Wheaton a win over a ranked team as well (provided they beat IWU this week and don't fall out of the rankings).

For Allegheny to get in they have to get by Wiit.

I would love to see the GameDay crew in Greencastle as much as the next guy but I was wondering about some of the D-1 games going on the same day. Iowa(6) plays OSU(12) on the 14th for what is essentially(barring an absurb upset) a ticket to the national championship game. Is there a reason why ESPN wouldn't be at that game?  Also, the overrated domers(21) are at Pitt(14) and Zona(19) plays Cal(23) in two other matchups of ranked teams. Utah(14) also plays TCU(6).

Rankings are BCS standings by the way...

All of these match up's are so-so to say the least. Better games will come and go, but how often will Game Day be able to broadcast from the site of a game that will break a 53 game to 53 game tie? That is College football history. None of those other games are. 8)

I think Game Day will opt for Columbus, Ohio, on the 14th.

I suspect you're right, though why anyone would voluntarily go to Columbus is a mystery! :D

My money is on IWU over Wheaton...I think Wheaton has been over ranked all year. Don't get me wrong as I like Wheaton...I was at the Wheaton/Hope game...and the Wheaton/ North Central game...have been following Wheaton the last 5 years...This team is just not the same calibre as the team from last year...there are many reasons for that probably but for one Rocky has just not been the same ...

I pondered this concept myself. I wasn't sure how the Allegheny I saw play earlier this season would be able to score against Wittenberg.
