I was impressed with Oberlin. I think their offense will continue to get better over time and in a couple of years they may be able to be close the gap a bit. They are much better than their record or history would indicate.

Yes, the score was 42-7 but I think the lack of depth hurt them as the game went on. The score was 21-7 and they had the ball deep in Wabash territory, and a kid tried to make a play and made a poor choice.

Tyrell Sutton gained 244 yards against Wisconsin and scored four TDs (three rushing, one receiving).

I think he's a keeper  ;)

Mr. Ypsi

smedindy,

You beat me to the post - Sutton IS a keeper!

But he also showed he is a freshman.  With 3:30 left, and up by 10, he tried to gain an extra yard, didn't tuck the ball, and was stripped deep in their own territory - Wisconsin scored a TD in one minute.  Suddenly a game 'on ice' was VERY much up in the air!  As I'm sure his coach will POUND into him this week, in that situation protecting the ball is FAR more important than an extra yard.

Despite his superb game, he almost ended up the goat!

From the writeup on Kenyon's web page:

"The victory was sweet revenge for Kenyon (2-3 overall, 2-0 NCAC), which had been a punching bag for Wooster in previous seasons, including last season when Wooster rode NCAA rushing champion Tony Sutton well into the fourth quarter during an 84-21 blowout."

Ouch.  Do you think these guys were a little ticked at what happened last year?

First off, I would like to offer congrats to Kenyon on a hard faught win at Wooster today.  Second, midnight madness can't get here soon enough! ;)

With all of the hooplah surrounding the Kenyon win today, something has flown quite amazingly under the radar....

For those who have checked the Witt/Earlham boxscore, you may have noticed that Holmes got some snaps in this game.  He played about half and half with Stokes today.  Holmes was 6-12, 74 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT.  Not great numbers, but I don't think that's the point.  Fincham has to know that he can't throw Holmes out to the Wabash defense in two weeks with no game experience in 6 weeks.  Holmes was a little rusty today, but I think that's probably the point of his playing today.  I don't think Witt can win consistently with that defense (and let's not put too much stock into the shutout today...Hiram shut them out too), but Holmes gives them the capability of playing shootout football which on the right day can steal a win.  We'll see how he plays next week.

I now can write a message on your board, kenyon has had a rough go of it since jim Meyer left in 94. At kenyon numbers have always been an issue, but our healthy 45 beat a good team on there field on homecoming. We have a good young coaching staff that get it,and understand Ohio has the best high school football in the US. And just a side note wooster is not good enough to treat kenyon like a scrimmage!,they did and you see the result. And I do understand Woo had a rookie at QB but the lords are missing for the season Carlin Shoemaker and 2 other starters on D!

So, flying under the radar until your team wins a meaningful game, huh? :)  Might we actually see a Denison or Oberlin fan before the end of the year?  Stay tuned.

Is there a "Ben-Watch" from this past Saturday?

Ok, I'm out from under the rock...

1.)  Herald, Get your facts straight.  Kenyon was not homecoming, they were parent weekend.

2.)  Herald, what does this game have to do with Ohio being the best state for football?

Herald was correct however, it seemed Woo took this game as a scrimmage.  Which was poor taste in that Woo rarely wins its scrimmages.

3.)  The revenge for Kenyon,  I would like to reiterate the Yankees favorite slogan, "Another 84 years!"  Woe be to the lords next season when this years team Plays them the last game of the season with this bitter taste in their mouth.  I as a fan have a worst taste in my mouth than if I found an open Beast in Bissman Hall and chugged it outta desperation.  Remember the punishment the Obies took last year?

4.)  Thanks Wally, I am glad to see some of the Wabash faithful see that the Woo team still has a chance.  I had thought that myself, but was afraid I was fooling myself.

Oh, do ya think there is a chance Lil' Sutt will follow his bros steps and drop to D3 after finding he doesn't like D1?  I WISH!!

Oh, and one more thing...what the hell was the deal with the Woo band playing the school fight song at the end of the game.  If I had not been leaving the stadium, I would have thought Woo won.  Seriously, the band has no clue.  Thank God for the pipers, or I just might say the band needs to take a hike!!  Back in the 80s, sure, ppl came to see the band.  Now the team is good.  Some People actually come to see the game, not the band.  It really irks me when the Scots are trying to make a field goal and the band is down on the sidelines making a pyramid, or "blowing" a "field goal" with their trumbones.  When I played I seriously thought the band was kidna neat.  Now, as a fan, I find them annoying,

Things must be bad in Wooster to start rippin' on the band.  ???

Scotsfan, its simple kenyon is now recruiting Ohio players from winning programs,I have gone to wooster kenyon games since 1967 and have always enjoyed the rivalry, there was a time not so long ago that kenyon and wooster had some battles.I was wrong about homecoming but if I"m in black and a senior I hurt the same parents day or not.Wooster is a great school, members of my family are graduates, didn't mean to disrespect wooster. I just  still can't beleive Kenyon got it done, and just remember we had 26 healthy bodies for most of 02. This is a big win for a football team trying to become a football program!

Wabash always sings its fight song, win or lose, on the road. I remember that amazed and stunned some Mt. Union fans that the Wabash faithful stayed and sang the fight song as the team left the field.
