I'm trying to organize a halftime promotion for Saturday - Pete Metzelaars vs Jack Sikma, one-on-one hoops, Shirk Center main arena.  I will keep everyone posted.

Does Sikma still have the afro?

Afro must have been a Supersonic thing.

Back to football.....

This Saturday's game. Is anyone worried about an emotional letdown?   Last Saturday was pretty big.  I know ER and staff is working very hard in telling the team that their goals have not been accomplished yet.

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Not at all.  I'd think that it is much, much more difficult to have the players bounce back after a game like last year (and Wabash was not good for 2.5 quarters of the CWRU game last year) than to have them bounce back after last week's game.  Wabash couldn't have more momentum right now...that second half was outstanding.  Why not harness that and use it this week?

No, I'm not concerned about Wabash being ready.  I'm more concerned about IWU's senior laden and battle tested team.  This is a big opportunity for Wabash.  A "next step" kind of game for the program.  I'm excited to see how the team goes after meeting that challenge.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

I think it's also a signature game for IWU - after years of seeing others in the CCIW go to the post-season they finally get their first shot since 1996. That's what scares me the most. Remember how amped up everyone was at the first Wabash playoff since the Stagg Bowl? I have a feeling IWU is going through that this week.

It's going to take a Bell-game like effort and intensity - but I think the LG's can pull it off. For the ultimate in motivation, perhaps we can get Bear to write more inane droolings in the guise of an IWU poster?  :D

How much, if any, does playoff experience matter?  For Wabash's seniors, this their third trip to the playoffs and their sixth playoff game.  Obviously, nobody on IWU's team has been to an 11th game yet.  Is this relevant at all?

I think we've taken care of that nuisance...at least until next year.   :)

I have a feeling Bear will be like another board favorite,...... I cannot even type his name.... it usually wakes him up.... so I will just give you a word scramble. csoytt.  ;)

Playoffs, as in any sport, are a different animal.   It will be interesting to see if Wabash with it's playoff experience can come out and maybe get an early jump on the Titans.

We saw on Saturday in the Bell Game, that Hudson came out a little too excited and need to settle down which he did.  He even admitted this in his blog.

#3 - Hudson's words about you during his Monon Chapel were tremendous.

Wally - When do you expect the NCAC to release the All-Conference Teams and Awards?

They typically wait until after the last NCAC team has completed play.  I'd expect to see that release come the week after the regional final.

Any further thoughts on OPOY (I think DPOY and COY are pretty obvious selections)?  I think it's a coin toss between Hudson and Huffman.

I'm kind of with Wally on this one. I'm not sure the playoff experience will be what helps Wabash get an early jump. If that were to happen, I think it's a product of keeping the intensity and rhythm from the 2nd half of the Bell Game. That 2nd half was as good a half of football as Wabash has played in some time and that needs to be the experience they draw from.

In 2002, Wabash's first round opponent was undefeated, but not as strong as Wabash.  They faced Wittenberg in the second round with whom Bash was very familar.  Having to then face Mount Union was were not having been to the playoffs made a big difference.  By the time  Bash started to get their feet under them, Mount had already cut off their legs.  Having experience in the playoffs is one of the intangibles that will help the LG's.  IWU is  a very good team that is on a big high having made it back to the big dance.  For the LG's, the Bell Game was the first round of the playoffs.  I don't expect any let down this weekend for the LG's.

Yes, but in the CCIW, the back to back North Central and Wheaton games were also a playoff-like gauntlet.

I do see your point, though, that there is another level once you get to Mt. Union, or Whitewater. But there's not going to be a let down by Wabash, since they know how tough a CCIW team is (Wheaton) in post season. I don't think IWU will be trembling in fear, though.

Smed - IWU is a very good team and the CCIW is a tough conference.  I expect that IWU will be ready to play hard on Saturday.  Playoff experience is one of several intangibles that will impact the game, and this one happens to favor Wabash.  I expect Saturday to be a dog fight.

OPOY---should give STRONG consideration to Harry Von Zann of Kenyon.
He's tall, one of the most dominent recievers in the conference, runs back kickoffs and kicks field goals and extra points. I'm not sure if handled the punting duties, but he would have been an exceptional defensive back if they had let him.
I know Kenyon didn't win many games, but its like Ernie Banks being named MVP for 2 years in a row although the Cubs finished 5th. As they said, without him, they would have finished in Albuquerque.
