You think the NCAC would jump to 13 members? that would seem to be  very awkward...ncac should be a lock to jump back to 10 with either depauw or WJ...don't know why they would want to expand past 10. Guess you could make a case for 12 members but that splits up the ohio schools some + i'm not sure about how the football title would work, champ game? fit into the schedule?

I know it is a tad bit early to take a look at 2010, with as many things that can happen during the off-season.

But here is the returning starter picture for the Top 4 NCAC Teams and for Depauw, based on the listed starters for each teams final games. This following does not take into consideration the possibility of Medical Redshirt or starters that were injured going into the list of starters for the final game.  There could be errors.

(Witt Still playing - Go Tigers!)

Witt
-

Offense - Returns 4 of 11  - Key losses - Huffman QB, most of o-line
Defense - Returns 6 of 11 - key losses - most of secondary.

Wabash

Offense - Returns - 5 of 11 - Key Losses -  Matt Hudson - most of o-line
Defense - Returns - 5 of 11 - Key losses - Whyde, Watson, Kraft, Fredrick

Allegheny    (I was shocked to see how young Gheny was -  8-2 season record not bad!)

Offense - Returns 10 of 11  - key loss - J. Vite - WR
Defense - Returns 7 of 11 - key loss - Nick Silva DL

Wooster

Offense - Returns 5 of 11 - key loss - A Holter - QB
Defense  - Returns 8 of 11  - key loss - Matt Degrand LB

Depauw

Offense - Returns 8 of 11 - key losses - Spud Dick QB, B Mulligan WR, Joeckel
Defense - Returns - 10 of 11 - key losses - Fitch

I don't think the NCAC jumps to 13 team.  However, I look for one of those 4 schools to be joining the NCAC in the next few season.

Correction on depauw returnees- offense, 8 of 11, as you said, key loss is spud, mulligan, and joeckel. On defense, 10 of 11 return with the only loss being fitch

How many of those teams have a JV program?  How they did in JV ball is also a harbinger of how well next season and the one after might be.

maripp2002

Wabash "red squad" never won a game in the first 3 years of the CC era. I think with the JV they always try to get everyone in to play, and so a lot of times it's not always the best playing and so not always the better JV team winning. However, I think you are right, you never know who is going to step up.

For what it's worth, this year's Wabash red squad was undefeated and was only challenged in one of 5 contests.

I believe W & J would be the school to join the NCAC.  Can meet academic
requirement of Phi Beta Kappa Chapter.   Also, Allegheny would want them in.
Budget for athletics more in line with NCAC than Depauw.   Could be wrong, but not sure JCU has Phi Beta Kappa Chapter.

On who is coming back you show Huffman as a loss for Witt.  This remains to be seen as he technically has another year of eligibility.

Ripp2002,

Not sure it's worth debating red squad records but I think you are wrong on the CC era.  I can only remember 2 losses going pretty far back...Franklin beat us last year and I believe we lost at Millikin a couple years ago.

WittJD - good catch on Huffman.  I think I would rather Huffman return then to see Durbin take the reigns.  :)

Good luck to Witt this Saturday!

I agree that it's probably not worth arguing red squad reecords. However, way back when in 2002 I remember us getting what Coach Jozwiak called  "the first win by the red squad since I've been here" when we beat DPU. Since that point in time, I do believe they've done quite well. Oh well, I will defer to your experience on that, it has been some time.

Huffman will be welcomed back for another year, as long as he throws 4 interceptions in next year's Wabash game.  8)

Good luck to the Wittenberg Tigers today against Trine. I am good friends with the D- coordinator at Witt, and would love to see the great season continue.

Good luck Tigers! The rest of us are pulling for you. Carry the NCAC banner proudly!
