Herald,

Are you talking about MV's new Unis.  If so I have seen them.  I am glad they went back to the solid black with orange highlights.  The silver was over the top.

Wally,

Have you ever attempted Sam Adams Chocolate or Cherry beers?  DEFINATELY not pregame material!

Li'l Giant

I've had the cherry beer. it's tasty, but not something I'd take to a tailgate. :P

A check of the weekend forecast in Wooster shows a decent chance of rain. (40%).  How would both teams be affected?

I personally would still have to give the edge in bad weather to Wabash.  A productive short passing game and a recently discovered bruiser in Roop.  Plus, I think the bash D would love to shrink the field a bit.

Any thoughts?
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Columbus Dispatch article on Kenyon:

In 2003, the state of Kenyon football was so grim that the team took a hiatus from competing for the North Coast Athletic Conference championship.

There were 26 players on the roster and more than a few coaches and administrators from other schools spread rumors that the program might be dropped.

Apparently, all that was needed was the long timeout. Although the Lords still have a long way to go, they took a significant stride by upsetting defending conference champion Wooster 24-21 last week behind 167 yards rushing and two touchdowns from Alby Coombs.

Wooster played without quarterback Justin Schafer, but the Lords were down to 40 players with five starters out with injuries.

"The big difference is the kids have worked so hard at this," third-year coach Ted Stanley said. "When we got started here, there wasn't a whole lot of talent. Frankly, a lot of them shouldn't have been playing college football. But now we're scratching, fighting back. We didn't play at our highest level against Wooster, but the effort made up for things."

The victory was a stunning turnaround from 2004, when Wooster humiliated Kenyon 84-21. The Lords (2-3) take a two-game winning streak into a game Saturday against Allegheny.

"A lot of guys don't understand the history around here, and that's not all that bad," Stanley said. "We've got 20 freshmen and 20 sophomores. But I will say that the Wooster game was personal for the coaches. That cuts at your pride."

Stanley's biggest challenge is building the roster within Kenyon's stringent entrance requirements. The middle 50 percent of the student body scored between 1,300 and 1,410 on the SAT and between 28 and 32 on the ACT. Applicants must rank in the top 10 percent of their high-school class. Tuition is $38,900.

Watch that language, gobash. You're gonna get banninated.  :D

At least I didn't call him a poonanner.  And Pat knows it's all in good fun, and that Wally's a little wuss :)

Wish I could be in Woo-stah this weekend with Wally and the crew though, but teaching is soaking up all my time right now :(

Hey Short,

If you are going to make reference to Witt's poor season thus far in your posts, at least spell it right.  Its "Wittenberg," not Wittenburg.

kcreds

There is so much hype given to this Wooster vs. Wabash game that I'm getting caught up in it. I believe, without the benefit of seeing Wooster play, that Wabash will win by at least 2 touchdowns. Here is my reasons: Wabash has beaten, decisively, some very good teams (OWU); they won the games they should; they have a strong defense and the most obnoxious fans.  ;D

People can throw out numbers all they want but until they play the same teams they don't mean squat to anyone else other than the one using them to prove their point. I do agree on one thing, this game probably will be the conference championship unless Witt pulls a Gator out of a hat or Wooster wins and OWU beats Wooster. You know what that means, GO SCOTTS! ;D

Go Bishops! >:(

DarkSide-D

Wooster fans can be obnoxious as well!  Especially the band.   ;D  I think that helps woo out a bit.  Also, Creds, I will go further.  I don't think you can compare teams that have had the same foes.  Teams prepare differently for different teams and that preperation may give a team more of an edge than the other.  Wabash is a game (along with witt) where Wooster zones in and prepares a lil extra harder than they would for say a Case or Oberlin.  I think after the last couple years, Wabash fans can say the same about Wooster week and Witt week.  I hope Witt says the same about Woo week, but I know Witt does for Bash.

The only stat that counts is the stat that follows the game.  However, its fun to try to compare teams going into a game. ;)

Lancer 98:  The article about Kenyon that you posted is that score from last year correct?  I didn't get to that game last year and frankly didn't pay it that much attention.  Gee, what was that all about?  Was Kenyon that inferior or what?  I can't see Woo running up a score that much and you can't tell your subs to just stop playing.

DarkSide-D

Ski,

Alot of people think that Schmitz ran the score up last year because Tony Sutton played in the third quarter.  IMO, if Schmitz was running the score up, the board would have broke 100.  Sutton's last touchdown run was at about the 5 minute mark in the third quarter, and was only 3 yards.  Prior to that, suttons last score was about 11 minutes left of the quarter.  The next two TDs were a 3 yrd run by Williams and a 57 yrd scamper by Skinner.  Granted Sutton scored all three of the touchdowns in the third quater.  But kenyon would have you believe that Sutton played every single down in the game.  Not true.  Every Running Back brought by Wooster played in the game.  Sutton was given plenty of rest.  Sure, I question his playing when the game was in the bag.  But like I said, if Schmitz was running the score up, the Score board would have broken 100.  Kenyon's defense was that bad.  But, that is just my take on the situation.  Others will tell you otherwise.

I think every program in the "top tier" can be blamed for "running up the score".

wally_wabash

ski, I think the biggest problem that Kenyon had with last year's game was that Sutton was playing in the 4th quarter.  There's a point at which you call off the dogs, and Kenyon doesn't think Wooster did that soon enough.  Based on releases and news articles that I've read, revenge was a pretty big motivating factor for the Lords on Saturday.

gobash, we'll miss you on Saturday.  But I know you've got plenty of "deck staining" to do, so I'll let it slide this time.  Witt at the Hollett on the 22nd.  There's no "deck staining" important enough to miss that game.   :D

Yeah, I remember there was hellfire and damnation from many posters when Wabash hung 84 on Hiram - and funny when the foot was on the other hand the defensive posture came out.

Wabash Always Fights!

wally_wabash

To be fair smeds, Wabash only scored 81 on Hiram.  And apparently we can thank the football gods that we didn't have to play them the following year.  :)

Wooster press release for Wabash.  It talks more about the Kenyon loss then it does about this weekend's matchup???

http://athletics.wooster.edu/fb/thisweek/default.php

The Wabash preview should be released today...  It will list the 2-deep from both teams.

DarksideD - you know anyone that has watched the live video this season???  Is it any good?  Hook us.

I'm not necessarily defending Schmitz and his use of Sutton last year, but once and for all, the facts need to be cleared up on this. Despite the official Kenyon recap of this year's game, which erronously states at the end of the article that Sutton played well into the fourth quarter, that is flat wrong. His last carry of the game came on his last touchdown run, which occurred with 5:42 left in the third quarter. You would think that Kenyon, which hosted the game, would check the play-by-play from the game to get the facts straight.

Schmitz wasn't trying to run up the score, he was trying to run up Sutton's stats. That wasn't the first time this happened with Sutton. He left him in one series too long in the third quarter, there is no question about that.

BashBacker #16, as for the video, from what I know the video quality is good, the question is whether you will have problems with buffering. If I were you, I would send an email to the Teamline people and have them tell you a little more about the service. Maybe you can ask them to let you view a test video to see how it streams on your computer.
