By the way ... Wabash trip to the playoffs is through some pretty rough country the last 3 weeks:  Gheny (home) on Oct 30.  (I have always liked the intensity and spirit of the Gheny PA guys)  Then Witt at their place on November 6.  That will be a game which should be on everyone's calendar as one of the Div III matchups of the year.  Then ... the always favorite ... Dannies from Depauw on November 13. 121,000 fans well prepped and at Wabash where you do not have all the "you can't do that or wear that" stuff and the extra charges the Dannies invoke on visitors.

After that 3 week period, ... BRING ON THE COPPERHEADS ... a Wabash run of 3 wins there will have the Little Giants as ready as they will ever be.

WOW!  Even The Big House in Ann Arbor can't handle 121,000! ;)

If that doesn't draw the attention of the Game Day people, nothing will! ;D

Anyone know who will be behind center for Witt this year (sorry if I missed an old post on this)

It may be the only thing keeping this team from being really scary.   Having watched all of their games down the stretch (with maybe the exception of the 2nd half of Whitewater) their defense simply does not give away anything.  A defense that is almost completely returning if I am correct.

Wabash will need to get the offensive machine figured out before heading to Springfield.

Wish the season started tomorrow.

WAF!

Looking at my drothers for a first round game ... Trine wins over Wheaton every day.  I want to play Wheaton but not in the first round.  No point in both teams beating themselves to death in the first round.  Maybe I was being to specific to say Trine ... I will enlarge my choice of first round opponents to any team from the MIAA.

Don't get me wrong, the playoffs are tough and the North is traditionally a very tough bracket so there are no "easy" games.  That said I think Lakeland, Mt St Joe's and CWRU would be on my list before Trine for 1st round matchups.

Bashbro,

Witt always seems to have quality, athletic centers.  I am not sure who the front runner will be this year.

As for their D, I read that they return 7 of their 11 but these are all very key returners - Hurtt, McKinley, Vallery, Freeman (returning for his 5th season), etc.

Here's the article from the Springfield paper:   http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/springfield-oh-sports/wittenberg-university-tigers/key-witt-senior-freeman-returning-for-his-fifth-year-603574.html

16 -  Good stuff.   I was actually curious who will be the QB for Witt this year?

Maybe Short can organize an 11th hour Huffman-Summit for his return...

I say any field with only one side offered for an audience gets bumped down, especially in regard to the perceptions of an I-Should-Be-Playing-At-A-Big-School recruit.

But talking about facilities as it relates to recruiting is like talking about a lover's mattress as a condition for marriage.  A stadium, however big or small, only exists, in this recruit-wowing context, as a physical place to couch the program's pride. A place to point to.

I think that's what you're talking about (why else would you rank Witt's car-lot so high), but at that point the relative difference in "facilities" becomes pretty meaningless, right? You're actually talking about a Program.

Objectively, Witt's stadium (albeit the new field turf) just ain't that great. Standing on the visitor's sideline feels like you're playing a little-league game at the local park. If afforded the opportunity to magically trade facilities with any number of NCAC programs, you don't think they do it? They'd be drooling to have OWU's stadium.

I'll keep that string going a bit -

From the home office in "about to be oiled" Florida, here is tonight's TOP FIVE LIST

Why Edwards-Maurer Field, Home of the Wittenberg Tigers has stands on only one side.

5.  Visiting teams are distracted by the fear of a car swerving off the road, through the chain link and into their sidelines

4.  Home field advantage is enhanced by the visiting teams believing that none of their fans showed up.

3.  They didn't want to block the view of some of Springfield's finest residential real estate

2.  It reminds them of when they were in high school

and the number one reason is:

1.  Witt players like to punch each other when they see a volkswagon drive by

;)

Well, the NCAC has its 10th member again. A hint, it begins with the letter "D" and ends with the letter "W".

Now, you may be a little skeptical of this claim since I don't have a link or anything to point people to, but that's because it won't be officially announced until next week. But as sure as I was the funniest guy on tv during the 1990s, this is a done deal. Lets just say the chances of teams like Wooster and Allegheny winning the conference just got a little slimmer.

If this moves beyond "yada, yada, yada." it may also make for some interesting results in the NCAC "Directors Cup" competition as well given recent results in the SCAC.  Another De school from a G village might rise to prominence in short order.

Edit:  no slight intended to Wittenberg's breakthrough this year, usurping the crown from OWU or Denison  :-[ , but we are speaking of Witt after all  ::)  ;D
