Everybody in the league has a game against a conference opponent that will not count for conference standings.  This was the NCAC's less-than-elegant schedule solution for the holes created by Earlham's departure.  I believe Hiram was already on Witt's schedule as a league game, then Earlham left, and the league just made that game not count. Wabash plays a similar type of non-league game at Kenyon this year.

It's been said before, but the league office totally butchered the football schedule with respect to Earlham's departure.  I can't believe that the league office was taken by surprise when Earlham decided to leave, yet there was no contingency plan in place and despite having time to work out something better, if not for 2010 then certainly for 2011, the response was this spit-and-bubble-gum patch job for the next two years.  Nobody wins with what the league did...except for Wittenberg who magically got an extra week off to prepare for the Wabash game.

Just as an FYI, those league games that were changed to non-league games over the next two years are:

ALL vs. OBE
HIR vs. WIT
KEN vs. WAB
WOO vs. OWU

Denison and OWU are playing non-league contests, but those had already been scheduled as such before Earlham left.  The same is true for Kenyon and Oberlin.

Witt and Hiram are only playing in Non-league for the 2010 season.  Both schools were looking for a game in 2011 to replace each other in their non-league play.

Even with the debacle that is the 2010 scheduling caused by Earlham's departure,  I will take it and the Depauw for Earlham trade.

Although, conference foes playing each other in a non-conference game is just ridiculous.
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

i agree completely.
is there some plus to non-conference games vs conference opponents?
i see only the negative and not a single positive!

The posted schedule for 2011 would disagree.  An alternative game is probably best for each of those schools, but if the 2011 schedule is open, why post it?  Again, we look to Walter Sobchak for sage advice...what say you, Walter?

Look @ Oct 8th Witt is open and looking for a game

wally_wabash

It also says they are looking for a game on 10/29 (as they should be).  Huntingdon owes Witt a return trip from 2003.  I think that's a good game for 10/29/2011.  Let's make it happen.

Alas, Walter would not be at most NCAC games. You know, he doesn't work, doesn't drive a car, doesn't  ride in a car, doesn't handle money, doesn't turn on the oven, and  sure as **** doesn't *******roll or go to football games!

I think I used my bandwidth allotment on this disgustipating schedule earlier in the year.

Looking at last years NCAC All Conference Teams, it seems the 1st and 2nd teams were somewhat dominated by seniors in some positions. (O-Line)

(There may be some medical redshirt or other eligibility issues that I am not seeing with the comments below)

QB spot will be up for grabs this year, Salopek could be looked to as the preseason pick, but with Vite graduating, he will have to find another go to.  Belton is my pick.

RB -  Weber from Witt will be very tough again this year.  Outside that, Flagg? Will one of Wabash's horses step up?

WR - Looks to be Wabash's spot, with Wes and Kody - interesting to see who else steps up in the conference with Von Kann, Vite and P. Williams from Witt out of the picture.

LB - Inside will be a tough spot for someone new to step into with the Witt pair and CJ Gum.  There are spots for new OLB's to fill with Kraft, DeGrand and Lohrman graduating.

DL - Witt will headline this group

OL -  ?  Block from Witt returning from the 1st team.  (Can't we get J-Mo another year of eligibility?  :D)

Should be interesting.  Who will the impact freshman from the NCAC be?

Don't forget about witt's Cooper.  He had very good #'s his So. year! Wooster returns a stud TE in Danials. Also, who has the best DBs in the ncac? Wooster returns a few good player but so does alleghany! Wabash and Witt were both hit hard in the secondary.

True.  Only 2 of the 8 1st and 2nd team players look to be returning from the secondary.  Sid Facaros (Gheny) and Taylor Trout (Wooster)

My guess is that those two will have a lot of say in exactly how far Mr. Belton goes.  They're going make the kid's life a lot easier, particularly early in that season.

Overall offensive game plan and getting Belton the time to look down field will be another key early while the new O-line gets their feet.

Ironic that Belton gets Wooster for his first game of the season.  The Wooster game was pretty much his coming out party last year.  18-of-31 passes for 283 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions.

BTW, I am just assuming this is Belton's spot.  No disrespect meant to Miracle (He almost pulled the Witt game out last year).  He will have his shot in camp.   I just believe with the additional dynamic of Belton's legs and ability to move and scramble being behind a new offensive line that he will be the one.

Edit -  Not to mention, Belton has what I believe to be a fantastic arm that will end up surprising many.   - WAF
