Mr. Ypsi

Note also U of Michigan.  On course for a near record between outstanding offense and pathetic defense.  (Last I saw, I think there were only 5 teams with a wider spread in national rankings in the two categories.)

     Ol' Cave2bens has a lovely post-he ain't contentious, he's pedantic. I am too,that's why I have -8 K. as I have said-it don't mean nothing, until 4 weeks time.
I took the opportunity, marooned as I am in the North woods, 2 weeks ago to go to Duluth to see Greenville College vs. St. Scholastica. Why, you may ask? Greg Carlson, the second winningest coach in Wabash history was there with StS, where he started the program from scratch 3 years ago. He was not a happy man, since his Saints were whipped 35-7 by Greenville College of Illinois, who showed up after an 11 hour bus ride, bringing with them a new running back and slot receiver coach-Andrew Rode, '09. He did good-371 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns. I could only get in a brief chat since they were about to board the busses for 11 hours home. Ah well- they're young and they won. andrew'64

Well, then, if you saw Greenville play, how did one of my local kids play?  Seth Marshall, the biggest kid on their roster at 6'4" and 300 pounds...  OL and a freshman who is playing a lot I understand...

'86---Greenville has a nice team. The best feature is a senior RB, Anthony Ambers, who is 7th in the country in rushing. I haven't seen his like since Tony Sutton. Your Seth Marshall started at tackle. I can't say I recall any particulars, since OLs rarely get their names in the papers unless they get thrown out of the game or something, but the blocking and pass protection was good. Nice for Andrew to come into a program with a #7 back to coach.

Then, of course, there are the San Diego Chargers.

Right now, they are ranked first in offense and defense in the NFL, and are currently 2-4.

Any Scotties out there?

The fish are very happy in Cleveland by the lake and plan on staying there.

Seriously, Holter's draws were the Scots most effective weapon against the Spartans the last three years.  Barnes looks to be even more elusive and the OL seems to have figured out what he will do and have improved protection since week one.

His threat may mean the Spartans will gamble less on D, but if Doolin is back the Spartans should certainly be able to contain him.

I am so glad you got to that game and caught Andrew and spoke with him...Hope you got a chance to greet Greg Carlson as well...He truly is running a first class program up in Duluth there..Makes sense to me he is in the Wabash HOF...

Anthony Ambers is something else for sure...He is currently the leading rusher in total yards 1114 and total touchdowns 13 in D3...he is 5th in yards per game...see stats below..

The kewl thing for Andrew is the spirit of the team and where they are heading with the Greenville program...Just adding JV this season... and with the changes in the confrence they will have the Automatic Qualifier for the the National Playoffs in 2011...
They also have some great freshman coming along...Justin Honeycut from (guess where?)..Wabash Indiana...

Has been a lot to learn for Andrew in that they run the triple option...(big article on the D3 site here last week about the triple option and schools running it)...

Notice who is 30th in the stats...

I have been to 3 of the Greenville games including last weeks win of 50-7...

The offensive line is very fast...and they make quick blocks and move on...they have had great success this year even when not winning...I will be watching for Seth...

The UMAC confrence is ranked last of the 27 as I remember...so the first game of the year Greenville played Augustana and lost by 28-7...the game was closer than the score showed and it felt like a victory as Augustana has a long history and is being revitalized with the changes in the offense...I think they just had 640 yards in offense if I recall correctly...against Carthage...

WABCOL86

Seth played on the line at Turkey Run High School his whole career until his senior year, when, get this, he alternated between line and quarterback.  He was the center on our basketball team as well...  He is a good athlete, to put it mildly.

Well, Whalen's improv leading to long passes were Case's most effective weapon against the Scots the last few years... who have they replaced him with as the focal point of the offense? It's hard to keep up with the D3 action on the east coast.

It will be interesting to see how the Scots rebound from a very disappointing loss against Wash U last Saturday. Hopefully they can reel in a big one this week   :D

Can't....Any OWU faithful going?....I heard the practices have been good.
The key to the rest of the season is 1) Improvement...2) Attitude/Spirit...
I've counted-out wins/loss...at this point, I'm just waiting for the Hiram game.
That's where the real pressure is...That will be the measue of this Wesleyan program...sad to even think it has come to this point. GO BISHOPS

+k for the piscatorial pun.

Sr Joey Baum is QB and he still has Zach Homyk as leading receiver.  Baum is a more disciplined pocket pass, but nearly as efficient.  #12 in passing efficiency in DIII and over 70% completion.
