Some recruiting news.......

According to the Hammond Times,  East Chicago Central running back/defensive back Arion Clanton will continue his career at Wabash College.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Clanton rushed for 925 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 16 receptions for 320 yards. He also returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

Looking forward to seeing this young man rumbling down the field turf!   ;D

Just received a note from Killer that Wabash has received confirmation/ commitment from Jack Montgomery, a captain and stud linebacker from New Trier High School, north side of Chicago.  Another benefit of 47 _ 0

Hope that commitment/news is a "for sure" - always sweet to usurp the Greendingle crowd...
Guess we'll see what happens come deposit day.  ;D

Checked again ... Killer stakes his rep on it ... and enclosed to me the email from Jack where Jack states he has decided on Wabash.  Agree on deposit day though.  Perhaps Jack wants to be on the winning side of 47-0.

By the by ... Wabash has tread all over the Dannies in Football, Basketball, Baseball (twice) ... not bad. Perhaps Jack and others see the light.

He apparently is a pretty good trackster as well. Hope he continues both sports at Wabash.

I am glad to see Wabash footballers also encouraged to participate in other sports which interest them.  Wabash traclk is a good example of the result (with appologies to those I miss here) ... I scanned the results of the Rose Engineers track meet (11 teams ... Wabash was 1st and Dannies, of course where they should be ... mired down in 7th).  Here are a few footballers:
Chamblee 1st in 200 meters at 22.48
with Van Hunt hard on him at 23.22 and following up with 5th in long jump and 6th in triple jump
Johathan Koop right behind Van Hunt in triple
Devin Kelly 1st in discus at 144 ft and followed up with high jump of 5' 7.75"

I am sure there are a number of others I missed.

Go Little Giants.  It is good for the football recruits to see how they will help Wabash and have fun year round athletically if they want this.

wabco:

I agree with you.  For those who are able to manage such schedules, it is great to see "footballers" able to participate in other sports as you mention.  Traditionally (i.e. from a general historical standpoint), probably most football players have participted in track, although obviously, baseball is in the mix (I won't, however, even go into the "Dayton Rule" with regards to track and football just as an side story ;D).  Yet, managing two sports is also very difficult to do; not everyone is able to do so due to their academic tracks.  I had all I could handle with football in college when I played; on the other hand, my brother was able to manage both football and baseball in college depsite a heavy academic load. Also, the addition of lacrosse at many schools has provided further choices/opportunities for football players, although also with spring football now, that can make it somewhat difficult for some football players who might have that interest in participating in the other sports.  Anyway, thanks for sharing the info on the current Wabash guys who are in tract and, again, I agree with you that it is great to see those have fun athletically year round if they want to are able to.

#84 busting off a 22.48 in the 200 after the injury he suffered, truly speaks to how committed this young man is to accomplishing his goals.  Anyone that has had the injury he suffered, me being one, realizes the sheer commitment and discipline that it has taken to get him back to this point, so quickly.

This morning's Wabash blog brings the news that the Bash rugby team (club?) squeaked by DePauw 56-5! Something about games played with an oblate spheroid must bring out something beyond WAF.

That's true, '64.  Given the pitch conditions that Mr. Hinjosa described, what self-respecting DePauw prop would risk the pressed crease in his Canterbury's and soiled boots or worse, a "Dannie" winger with muddied socks?  Horrors!  :o ;D  Was the unconverted, DPU try, a ref-awarded, pity penalty?   :D  ;D

Crusaders @ Cheetahs in Bloemfontein in three and Boks vs ABs in PE on 8/20.  Offer still stands, Wab64... Theakston brew is cellered.  8-)

It looks like Wabash is doing a fine job of "reloading" as usual. It feels as though this could be a special season... 8-)
