Is 70 players down from the past or is this/has this been the usual state of affairs recently?  70 players on a roster can be a bit thin sometimes, especially by the middle or late portion of the season.  Some schools are down in #s this year.  For example, at Hope, we had 113 this year, which is down from the 150-160 we've had the past 4-5 years.  Alma had about 109, although that is about par for them, yet I recall for many years they usual ran about 66 players.  I remember within the past decade, both Kazoo and Olivet were down into the high 40's by the end of the season and that was a tough time.  On the other hand, it was good for players in the sense that...everyone made the traveling squad. ;D  They had to!

Anyway, hopefully your OWU will have some excitement this year at old Selby.  Good luck.  Hope you are doing well.

OWU had 82 on the roster in 2010 - 64 in 2009 - 75 in 2001 - 82 in 1994
The numbers swing a little in Delaware - But the real number is the record:
11-29 the last 4 yrs/30-50 last 8 yrs
In comparison - Wittenberg has 68 RECRUITS/FROSH for 2011
In 2010 the Tigers had 94 freshman, and 70 of them are still on the ballclub
2008 - Witt had 40 recruits - 8 of them lettered last season as Jr's
D3 is a numbers games...get as many in as you can & a high "quality" ratio....
Bishop Stephen Haynes (Fla) WR is MIA...Productive as a Frosh & Soph...Now gone
He may have been the guy at practice last year that blew-up at a coach....
Good-luck formerd3db against Wisc. Lutheran...The DeVos is in my "Bucket-List"

Thanks for the follow-up info.  Indeed, it is a numbers game.  Believe it or not (and I know you probably know this since you are a college football history fan like me), IMO, it was U of Pitt/Johnny Majors that started the "big numbers" scene when he brought in 90 freshman the year that Tony Dorsett came in as a freshman, even though there were (and still are) scholarship limitations.  Speaking of that, you might recall that Dorsett was 6th string TB at the beginning, didn't even play in the first game or two, yet eventually started (in part due to injuries) and still gained over a 1,000 yards that season before going on to the further huge #s he had.  Amazing, and he was only 155 lbs. when he was frosh.

Anway, we've all had the conversation regarding the recruiting numbers and retention trends on both your board and ours in the past and, indeed, it is interesting.  I remember when I came in to Hope "many moons ago", our freshman class of football players was 40 and we only had 14, including myself, who stuck it out all 4 years.

Thanks for the good luck wishes for tomorrow against WLC - we'll need it.  Unfortunately, it appears that my Hope has hit the tough times now like your OWU has the past decade.  If we do not do well this year, it will be the 4th in a row and that is just not the Hope football I remember (perhaps it is though, like it use to be decades ago in the "very old days" when Hope was not very good).  Also, indeed, you need to get to DeVos someday - it is like a mini-NBA arena.  Even some DI schools would give anything to have a bb/vb arena like that and its electronic scoreboard.  Now...if we can only get the new turf for the stadium and practice fields like we have for the new soccer/lacrosse stadium ;D  Even Calvin is talking about a fantastic football/soccer stadium complete with new turf and including the practice fields if they add football (they will probably do that anyway even if they end up nixing the fb idea).

Good luck to you as well and have a great weekend.  Someday, I will (need to) get down to Selby for a game. ;)

Road trip is ON for tomorrow.

Gametime weather forecast: not 100 degrees.  I'll take it.  Maybe some rain overnight, maybe a little bit of rain in the afternoon...insert longwinded dialogue about which team is better off in the rain here.

Can't wait to get this thing kicked off tomorrow.  WAF!

How many of the 55 are in school at OWU. I think that's the question. Do they drop football and remain on campus, or do they just flee Delaware?

Good question smedindy.... For that kind of intel I will have to call my "on campus guy"....
But if I were to guess, 35-45 would still be considered OWU students...
Give me some time to obtain a "hard" number...

After a week & more of channel surfing here, there and everywhere, I am glad that Wabash made the decision to produce a separate field (or pitch) for the soccer program. It looks beautiful and even enhances the Lambda Chi house. So much better than trying to follow a football game in the red zone amid all the extraneous lines, boxes, and circles. I wonder how the soccer players like it, threading through hash marks, yard lines, and various forms of end zone art?

Then there's the time when football played in baseball stadiums, and now baseball is played in football stadiums (Oakland and Miami, at least). Neither sport is happy with how the other messes them up.

I can't believe that they used to play pro football in Fenway Park and Wrigley Field, but they did!

Or even the late, great venues - Municipal Stadium in Cleveland and Tiger Stadium in Detroit.  Of course, back in the dark ages, linebackers and linemen actually did some placekicking (hated it when Yepremian took over for Wayne Walker  ::)).

Safe travels to all this weekend, may all participants remain healthy, wifey's family make some good cash at Shisler's cheese haus from traveling fans, and get a big win, Little Giants!  WAF!

At Municiple...aka, The Stadium....when the teams got down to the closed end, the dirt & dust from the infield
would fly-up....
Nobody expects OWU to win today...but what I'll be looking at is the staff. Game-plan, instruction, intensity.
Will the young Bishops have composure when the Tiger pressure comes-on.
Franklin & the Gators are two others that have to perform today....Big games for them.
Possible rain at COW? After the game, head down to Shreve and go 4-wheeling....grab an Amish pie....
Good Luck to all NCAC players & fans....GO BISHOPS

I can't find any links on Wabash's ugly new website.  Is there a WNDY stream?  Found the video link.
