... plus I recall the visitor stands were a bit inadequate.

I won't keep drilling on this, but I went to the Wabash red squad game there in 2009 because my cousin was starting in the game.  The Wabash fans filled up the visitors bleachers FOR THAT.  There were people spilling over into lawn chairs for a JV game.

It's a great rivalry and would make a good non-con game for both teams.  They aren't a good fit for the NCAC.  I do think it would be nice for the Wabash administration to go check out their organized tailgate.  That sounds nice.  I will pass on the t-shirts that rip off Notre Dame, though.  Nothing better than Wabash Always Fights.

Who would you have OWU play, eagle?  I think OWU is a program that needs to learn how to win again.  I'm not sure scheduling something like an ONU and getting slapped around by seven touchdowns helps.  OWU isn't a good team going through a rough patch anymore...it's been way too long for that to hold true anymore.  It's been 10 years since OWU had a 9-win year.  It's been seven years since OWU played a meaningful game in week 11.  They're a team that is losing perennially and has to relearn how to win.  Not losing to Denison was a good start.  A series with Bluffton isn't a bad idea at all...start smaller (and you never know...Bluffton just might be better than you think) and build your way up to stronger non-league games.  OWU will get plenty of strong tests in league play.  I don't see a problem using a non-league game to build some confidence, learn how to close out a game, etc.

Oberlin is going to have something for Wooster on Saturday.  I'm not sure what Oberlin can do with Barnes.  Probably not much.  But that Wooster offense isn't going to be able to afford to be sloppy because Oberlin will score points in that game.

Ok...maybe ONU, Mount and Trine for that matter ought to be off-limits. I'd go
for the old OAC rivals such as Baldwin-Wallace, Marietta or...for a huge fan turn-out,
Capital or Otterbein (1/2 hr drive). The Bishops do need to build confidence....
just getting out of the NCAC basement might be a good start.

In briefly looking at the box from the 2010 Little Giants/Bishop game,   I found that the transition to "Air Bishop" may had already started back then... (24 of 46 for 308 yards) or it may have been a result of their inability to run (25 for 88 2.8 yd avg.).....

I was somewhat surprised to see that Wabash only had (1) sack, but did have a total of (6) TFL.   The Bishops on the other hand had (3) sacks and also had a total of (6) TFL.

The game started out sloppy with turnovers from both sides.   The whole game saw some mistakes from each team; Wabash gave up (2) ints. and had 109 yards in penalties.   OWU -  gave up (2) ints. lost (1) fumble and  60 yards in penalties.

One of the stats that really sticks out and has been a recent topic on the board,  OWU punted (7) times for a Avg or 10.6 yards per punt (8.1 net).   That had to significantly hurt the battle for field position for the Bishops.

Wabash needs to take care of business on Saturday.  Anything can happen when you allow an underdog to stay in a ballgame.

Wally - Wooster is a sound team.  B-W and Wabash were more than they could handle, but notwithstanding their good start this year, Oberlin will have their hands full if Wooster gets their offensive weapons in sync.

Bash Brother -Wabash's offense played much better in the second half last week and I think that this will carry over.  I anticipate a strong showing.  While the defense only had 1 sack, they shut down Wooster well all day.  Wooster can run the ball effectively so Wabash had to respect that threat.  While there may have been only 1 sack, they pressured the quarterback all day forcing fumbles and interceptions.  Against Air Bishop and with very talented group defense backs, I suspect that you will see the d line and linebackers dropping the quarterback a time or two.

Oh, for sure.  I don't think Wooster should lose another game until they get to Wittenberg in week 11.  I do think Oberlin will move the ball some on Saturday.  The Yeomen have some good pieces and have gotten quite good at spreading defenses out...there are some matchups that I think the Yeomen can win.  I expect Wooster will win, but they'll want to score a good deal to make sure.

Was at that game last year in Selby, bb. And it started out with Int, fumble, Int, punt..
Then the LG's scored. As soon as QB Espo landed in Delaware....The forward pass
was discovered...big-time. I shudder to think what would happen if #15 went down.
The Bishop "O" line is one of the keys....Game experience will help this young unit.

I broadcast that game with Mr. Harris. My recollection that it was the perfect storm of bad punt protection and a highly motivated punt block / return team.

There's a huge difference between what's happening with 2011 Wabash football and what was happening after one game in 2010.  After one game last year, I saw an offense that was pretty rudderless (the top two senior leaders were lost to injury leaving underclassmen everywhere) and a new starting QB still trying to figure things out.  After the Wooster game one year ago, there was obviously a long way to go for Wabash.  What I saw in Wooster last weekend was very different.  The offense had established playmakers and leaders.  The QB had control of the offense.  This group is about 1000 miles ahead of where they were one year ago.

Special teams really helped Wabash get by OWU last year.  This year I expect the Bishops will be seeing a much more polished Wabash offense.  There may well be a big special teams play in there, but I don't think Wabash will be relying on it this weekend the same way they needed to at Selby last year.

Eagle,

Brandon Uranker I believe transferred somewhere just to go to school. New Freshman can punt the ball though.

Would love to be in Crawfordsville this weekend for the game but simply cant make it. Are any Bishop followers attending?

NCAC4Life

Bishop, I will be in Crawfordsville this weekend. Flying in from California to see the Bishops get the pleasure of being on the same field at the same time as the Lil Giants. Eager to see the new turf at Wabash. Bishops have a great history and tradition but it is fact that the last team from Ohio to beat Ohio State was Oberlin. Do they have the Yeoman on their helmet?

They don't fit the academic profile. They don't have a PBK chapter. They're not part of the GLCA (Hiram and Wittenberg aren't either, but that may be by choice more than anything). They're not as highly selective as the others. And they are a 'regional' liberal arts college instead of a 'national' in their classification as per the US News & World Report. All of the NCAC schools are national, which means that over 50% of their degrees are granted in the classic 'liberal arts'.

It may sound elitist, but that's why Franklin isn't in the NCAC.
