joelmama, there is no bigger UAA homer than me (except maybe JagranSpartan), but I too think that you're a little bold with that statement.  OK, you're being a lot bold with that statement.  As wally points out, the 'Bash defense has shut down equally-explosive Chicago offenses in the past.

2009, Chicago averaged 26.9 ppg and was held to 10 by Wabash.
2010, Chicago averaged 31.6 ppg and was held to 14 by Wabash.
2011, Chicago is averaging 29 ppg...how is this year's offense so much more explosive?

Brizzolara is an incredible athlete for Division III, and he might be worth a score or two by himself.  I'm not ruling out a Chicago victory if the defense shows up and shuts down the 'Bash offense (unlikely, given that they haven't held an opponent under 400 yards this season), but it seems a touch asinine to suggest that 'Bash won't be able to slow down a Chicago offense averaging about 29 ppg and 320 ypg - hardly different from the last three years.

Not to mention your QBs are holding very tightly to a 50% completion percentage. Doesn't inspire much fear.

There won't be any punt return TDs this time around, Maroons. I can't say I see you running all day on us either.

Not sure where all these points are gonna come from...

Chicago's defense is really the piece that needs to show up.  Wabash has scored 49, 48, and 31 (24-0 lead at halftime before ER tossed out the anchor) points in the last three games of this series.

My earlier comment that "Wabash subs would see some play in the 4th qtr on Saturday" was not meant as any disrespect to this Chicago team.   It was simply a prediction and a product of my belief in this Wabash squad.   With 31-14, 48-10 & 49-7  being the recent game results between the two, I was going with recent history in making my prediction.  Anything can happen and I am sure ER will have this team focused and ready for anything Chicago will throw it's way.

With Kenyon on the horizon,  and with some inconsistent play to start the season, rest assured that the Maroons will get this Little Giants teams full attention on Saturday.

WAF!

P.S. #3 was not that slow  ;)

Anyone seen the current media guide? Has it been published?

Interesting reading of their defensive stats.  They are going to have problems keeping up with the Wabash O.

I think Chicago will turn some heads this week.  I guess you could call it a "yardstick" game but I think they're decent enough on defense to keep it close.  I think the big thing will be if Wabash shoots themselves in the foot.  Chicagos defense is undersized but they are pretty athletic and move around alot and they got playmakers on offense.  It'll be closer than a lot of people think.

So...about that 28-10 loss to Concordia...

I'll repeat myself.  I'm a HUGE homer for the UAA and LOVE seeing UAA teams come away with big wins (I think I was happier last year when WashU beat Wabash than I was after any Carnegie Mellon result last year).  But, it's RIDICULOUS to get carried away with these kinds of statements when you're two weeks away from getting handled by a Concordia team that isn't HALF of what Wabash is.

At some point, "being athletic and moving around a lot" has to equate to "stopping the other team from gaining yards and scoring points."  You haven't held a single opponent under 400 yards (though I suspect Beloit racked up some meaningless 4th quarter yardage, since UChi was well ahead in that game).  However, the Concordia QB threw for 285 yards, 4 TD's, 0 INT's.  Elmhurst then lit you up to the tune of 484 yards.  Yardage doesn't mean everything, but you're giving up a ton of points, too (25, 28, and 26 points allowed isn't exactly stellar).  I'm not sure that your defense's athleticism and movement is going to suddenly show up enough to stop 'Bash.

If Brizzolara breaks a return and gets loose for a big TD, and Adarkwa can do the yeoman's work on the ground, you might keep it close.  But I don't see it.

*I will note that, a few times during my CMU career, we did win games in which we looked badly outclassed on paper, most notably vs. Millsaps in the '06 playoffs and Wash-U in the '07 regular season.  I know that it CAN happen.  I just think it's amazing that Chi fans are making these kinds of bold statements up front...if you had any brains you'd keep your mouth shut and let your kids go prove it on Saturday.

Bishops have a shot at COW with Barnes out...a shot...
Possible 5 maybe 6 win season...which in Delaware is unheard of lately...
I've read all the lines: "Bishops on the rise".."More competitive"..."football
team on your hands now"...and that's great and OWU did & does play tough
against the LG's...but, the final product will be key...how these Bishops stay
together and figure out how to win those 5 or 6 games.
Blocked FG's are a problem...and Espo has to learn to look-off better.
When I saw a LG TE get behind 2 OWU DB's (one is a SR-was a deep sideline route)
I just couldn't get it. The game was never really in question...but, OWU played tough,
all 4 Qrts.
#84 is a game-changer & 4300 at Hollett...awesome.
GO BISHOPS....still miss The Lass

I am certainly not going to make any bold predictions, however if Wabash plays up to their potential, I don't think Chicago can beat us. They may be able to keep it respectable, but I don't expect the number of mistakes to plague us this weekend as they have in the past. ER has gotten another good week of practice from the men and they are prepared.

don't assume i'm a chicago fan.  I've seen them play, i'm not being a homer.  I'm not even a UAA guy.  I didn't see the Concordia game or Elmhurst game but I think the score will probably be a lot closer than people think.  Maybe I'll eat my words but I think the Chicago is a little more talented than OWU and will keep it relatively close.  If there were real vegas line and it was a Chicago +10 line I'd throw some money down on the maroons.

In 06 i remember seeing both CMU and Millsaps play in the regular season and knew CMU would be in trouble.  Millsaps had some pretty good athletes that year especially on D (Their front 7 were pretty big and athletic).  The SCAC however ain't quite what it used to be.....
