It is worth noting that along with academic standards, gender balance is a key component of the NCAC's mission.  From the conference webpage:
"A member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division III, the NCAC features championship competition in 22 sports — 11 for men and 11 for women. The 11 women's sports are the most offered by any Division III conference, and the equality in number and emphasis between men's and women's athletics is just one of the elements that sets the North Coast apart."

The All-Sport trophy is part of this equality.  The schools that do well have strong Men's and Women's programs.

And having an All Sports Trophy for men and an All Sports Trophy for women somehow flies in the face of this equality?  I think you're WAY too PC concious if you believe that.

Frankly, I could care less about the All Sports trophy.  If the All Sports trophy were a huge deal, then we'd have never joined the NCAC.  The benefits of being in the NCAC far outweigh the fact that we'll never win an All Sports trophy.  I'd like to see the NCAC offer two trophies, but I'm not going lose sleep over the fact that they aren't going to.

I, for one, am not concerned about the all-sports trophy. Wabash does not play lacrosse, either, so they would have issues even if it was separated into male and female.

It's nothing to complain about - let's shuffle along....

Shuffle ... shuffle.

My only point is that the trophy, as designed, is essentially meaningless.  Why not say "Sports Trophy for all but Wabash"?  That is what it is.  And give me a break about all that gender equality BS as the "defense".  (One wonders if it would survive if there were an all female school as a NCAC member ... HA ... I'd say aqbout 15 minutes.)  This is a stupid trophy which is rendered meaningless by its clear bias and lack of any cogent reason for its retention as "the top" trophy ... If you want to really PC the world ... have 3: ...1 for men, 1 for women, and 1 for the super duper gender equality wadda wadda "all skate".  There is no defense for this other than the same poo poo from the same people who keep secret the playoff formula ... because .... because ...   trumpets up ... ???

And Wabash will still win by 14 over the MENS Tiger Down Team.

Yeah, hey, speaking of, have there been any rumblings about the club lacrosse team ever joining up in the NCAC?  Wabash DOES play lacrosse, or at least they did from 99 to at least recently?  Is the club team gone?

The last I heard was the cost study was that it was an expensive "add" in coach, schedule/trip cost ... leading to a "we really need to look at this".  I believe it does not have a strong promoter within the athletic department leadership (and thus the inertia of further study rather than act) ... even though and in the face of (across the campus in Admissions) an apparent increasing interest when you look at applications and interests of the applicants.

What a complete sexist comment.  You should be ashamed of yourself.  I'm embarrassed for your family.  OK enough of this PC crap.  I couldn't agree more.  I will really upset people.  Pi$$ on Title 9.  Before you ask, yes I have a daughter that participated in athletics.

Back to football.  Tomorrow will be a great game.  If Bash does not beat thierselves.  It will be a L'il Giant victory.  Hope the weather cooperates.  As always.

Funny, no one from bash cares about the all sports trophy, yet this isnt the first time I have seen it brought up on this Board.  Simply put, the All-sports trophy has been a part of the NCAC since its inception in 1983.  Just because a school joins that only admits on sex, rather than both, is no reason to throw out that tradition, nor is it reason to change the rules.

Besides, it is that All-Sports trophy, not the mens all sport or the womens all sport.

And I somewhat agree with you comments about a PC world.  A PC world would definately suck.  But I don't think the all sports trophy is PC, or else the fact that Bashers feelings are hurt would mean we would have to change the rulings.  Luckily, the NCAC is conservative in enforcing its liberal rules.    AINT IT FUN?!

wally_wabash

To be fair, wabco, the NCAC had set up these rules long before Wabash joined the conference.  Remember, we joined their club, not the other way around.

Maybe if we win the football title three years in a row, they'll let us make our own rule. :)

I can tell you exactly where the problem lies.  Vernon Mummert.

That guy was a pox on us back in the day when we were trying to start up the club team.  Promising us practice field space and then calling us the morning of a big tournament that we had scheduled (with the other teams from Illinois and Michigan ALREADY on the road) to tell us that we couldn't use the practice fields, because he was afraid the light rain would cause the practice fields to get torn up.  So we had to tell these teams who drove hours and hours to get to Wabash for a tourney to turn around and go home.  Because he was worried about us tearing up a practice field.  That was a great day.  I'm STILL pissed off about that one...

Anyway, enough bitching, especially on a football board.  Sorry.

I don't think the NCAC would change the rule if say, St. Mary's joined, either. To imply they would is ludicrous, and baseless, I may add.

And hooray for Title IX, I say. As my daughters grow older, I definitely want them to have the opportunity, which is something my sister did not have.

Let's just hope you son doesn't want to wrestle.  ;)

Well, I can say that it's mainly adminstration gaffes and wanting to feed the insane D-1 football machine that is the cause for the decline of wrestling, not Title IX.

How many posts are needed before one reaches the status of Starter.  Maybe its my competitive nature, but I hate this second stringer lable

And with that...let's focus on Saturday. Bundle up, everyone. It's FINALLY football weather!
