Is Hollway well thought of by former players?  Do a number of them come back during the season for games?
Over the years I have sat with and talked to a number of players at Wooster games who come back at least once a year for a game, no matter how far away they live.

smedindy

Scoreboard wrong on site. Entry error no doubt. Austin has cut it to 21-17.

Denison now up 31-14 early in the 4th.

Espo had to be close.....
nike: I've run into former Bishop players at Selby...
Seemed like it was the guys from the 70's and 60's the last time....
Did speak with a guy from an early 2000 team. Is "H" well thought of? I don't know........

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

"To overcome the disappointment of not making it on third down." -- Washington State Coach Mike Leach

I am guessing that should get POW for Mason Espinosa.
However, we play Hiram tonight and our guy may surpass Espinosa, statistically.  Or Flagg will go wild.

Oberlin does not die. They trail 38-27 but just fumbled late in the 4th. Denison has it 4th down.

UPDATE: It's a final. 38-27 Big Red.

DPU holds on to beat the Kangaroos 21-17.

Nike:

I have spoken with former players several times over the past couple of years. I don't think the players coming back to see a game or a couple games a year at OWU or seeing OWU play on the road has anything to do with Hollway. Whether they love him or hate him they would come or not come because of hollway. Players come back to see their former teammates, friends, and just the team playing. I have spoken with many players and it seems that the players think he is a great guy outside of Football but really don't agree with his coaching philosophy. Like AUEAGLE, I have talked to players and parents each year when I go to games and after games I may ask what the problem is just to see what parents think and they just don't understand what he is trying to do on the Football field. When asking the players they agree. They don't understand his offensive philosophies. Like today, OWU killed a 0-8 Kenyon football team. The team played great but you have to remember who they are playing against. Looking back at the past schedules the only teams that OWU consistently beats is Kenyon, Oberlin, Hiram, occasionally Denison. They don't have any upset wins, they don't have any signature wins. Beating the same teams repeatedly gets old. This team was probably fired up because they haven't won since Week 1 but what satisfaction do you get from beating these teams. Players want to prove how good they are. Back to your question if they loved the coach more players would come back, less would transfer, less would quit.

nike

I get that.
At Wooster, they come back for all the reasons you mentioned plus to see coach Schmitz.  They like him and his football acumen.  They eat with the current teams after the games and everyone appears to be having a genuinely good time, win or lose.
And I don't know of any personally that have left or quit, although I am sure there must be some that have over the years.
I do hope that OWU starts  winning, because  I would love to see Selby filled one day.  I love the stadium.

No, it's not bigger nike. It's not. Trust me. It's not.

There's hate, there's Wittenberg hate and then there's DPU hate.

True hate.

From Wabash game summary:

The bye week is an advantage for a team, Raeburn believes. Wittenberg's bye fell this past weekend.
"Wittenberg will be the fourth game this year where a team had a bye the week before," Raeburn said. "So thank you conference scheduler. Most conferences have a rule that that doesn't happen. Obviously, our conference doesn't so this will be the fourth game like that.

"I've had years where I had a bye week and it came at times we were playing great. A week off helps those teams to have two weeks to prepare for us. They can make sure all their guys with little bumps and bruises are feeling good. But thanks to our conference scheduling this will be fourth time a team has had a bye before playing us."

wabco

OK ... heart returning to more normal mode.  Congrats to LGs.  They traveled a long way and beat a well prepared (over a 2 week period) Gheny team ... which by te way ... year in and year out always play hard and are well schooled and a credit to their football team and school.  I believe Wabash showed as the better team but was sorley tested.  I also think such an experience is a good one when you survive it.

Now Witt also has two weeks to prepare for Wabash (The brain surgeons in NCAC scheduling have granted four of Wabash opponents this year a bye week before playing Wabash ... one might think that there is some sort of conspiracy at work here if it were not demonstrated consistently by earlier scheduling decisions that they are in fact just idiots ... however anti-Wabash conspiracy or just idiots ... the resulting unfair advantage granted to teams playing Wabash is the same.)

So that which does not kill us will make us stronger.  It is Witt Week.  And it is at home.  And it is the last game this year (except perhaps for playoffs ... hopefully not ruled by the same schedulers and NCAC) at home.  SO ... be there early Saturday and prepare for a DePauw-esk game day feeling.  Conference on line, playoffs on line, NCAC schedulers on the line .... I can hear Bluto over in the Lamba Chi House looking out the window:   "TAILGATE !!!"

Be there early and be there with all the Wabash family and friends ... first TAILGATE ... then participate as Wabash supporters in the slaying of the first pride of Tigers.  DUH ... Winning ... Tiger Blood !
