I have an old baseball glove.  The first glove I ever had.  I used it forever...played a ton of games with it.  I love that glove.  But it's all beat up now and is far from useable.  I thought about relacing it and getting some leather treatment, etc. but I realized that I would be simply treating symptoms and not the problem.  The problem was that the glove was old and beat up and no longer serviceable.  So I got a new glove.

I appreciate that you love your field.  I really do.  But the fact is that Meadville is apparently in the rain capital of North America and the earth in, around, and underneath that football field doesn't handle precipitation very well (understatement of the year).  In the 21st centruy, we have viable alternatives.  There are surfaces out there that are not going to get destroyed and chewed up and unuseable after every rainstorm.

It's time to retire the old glove, Vince.

I know it costs money, but there are small schools all over the country who have rapidly raised the funds for such a rennovation.  I won't believe for three seconds that Allegheny is incapable of capital campaign that can raise enough funds for a new surface.  Kenyon and Witt have done this.  OWU is doing it very soon.  Allegheny should be jumping on this bandwagon with both feet.

Well you can relax because Allegheny is currently in the process of jumping on that bandwagon as we speak.  The last I heard, they already found a contractor to install field turf at Robertson but they are still in the process of raising the money.  Renovation of the football field and track (if that's what people want to call that black ring that goes around it) has been a rumor for many years now but for some reason it's always been placed on the back burner.  There have been a TON of building and renovation projects on Allegheny's campus over the last 10 years, so I won't accuse anybody of sitting on their hands.  I have heard from numerous sources, however, that the Hrovat years set the football program back quite a bit in terms of financial support from the alumni.

Oh yeah, and baseball sucks!

Just out of curiosity Wally, have you ever actually been to Robertson field or are your opinions based solely on the horror stories that you've heard from others?  I can't blame Wabash posters for having such a low opinion of the field since the weather's always been terrible when they come to town.  Maybe if they moved the Wabash/Gheny game up into September you guys would get to see the field in better conditions.

Took out Wooster?  Please Redman, you know as well as we do that Carthage limped outta Woo with that one.

Limped, crawled, what ever it was a "W". Also I said "Took out"---aka knocked them out of the playoff--- I did not say, kicked their a$$ or beat the S**t out of them.

This is what happens when a team makes the playoffs, then loses twice early the year after.  It's all about what happened last year, because frankly, this year is over. Thanks for playing, redman, now please take your trash away from here and try again in '06.

Things were said in a response.  The sarcastic comment of who are the redmen was answered with another sarcastic answer.  Then someone got a little sensitive about the words "took out."  I think you need to relax.  No one is "bash"ing your team or any other.

I'm constantly amazed at how swiftly things can get out of control in this room.  It seems that every comment is taken as a personal affront by somebody, and that gets the vitriol running.  At least with this one, there appears to be an identifiable source:

Redman04, I think you might have misinterpreted oldguy's post.  I believe he was honestly, innocently asking who the Redmen were.  Not everyone in this forum immediately recognizes Carthage's nickname or football helmet.  I think you may have overreacted.  Just my humble opinion.

My question wasn't sarcastic.  I actually didn't know and was just curious as to why one of their fans was suddenly on our board.

BOOORRRRINGGGG !!!!!

now if you had a mud - o - rama field like the Gheny Gators ... where you could hold swamp buggy races ... and you somehow think that is OK ... now that is a subject.

I guess I assumed it was some cracking an outsider. No harm intended, I just assume everyone is a smart ass like me!

I'M OUT!

Football is meant to be played on grass, meant to be played in the elements, and you're supposed to get dirty.  I think it would be a shame for the Gheny-Bash game to be moved (not that I think it ever would be).  It is called homefield advantage for a reason, if the Gators want to grow the grass long and hope for rain against Wabash's spread offense, let them.  The Patriots did the same thing a few years ago in the NFL, and the league should have left it alone.

I saw this while I was cruising the Big 10 notes on espn.com and thought some might be interested.

"Freshman tailback Tyrell Sutton has 977 rushing yards, falling 23 short of joining Emmitt Smith, Marshall Faulk and Adrian Peterson as the only players in NCAA Division I history with 1,000 yards in their first seven games."

Not bad company.  Very glad this kid didn't follow his brother to Wooster  :)

Do you guys know if the regional rankings that are due out today are from the NCAA or from D3football.com?  Just curious.

Vince - any pictures of the Swamp from this year?  I checked your site and did not see anything on facilities.

WabashCPA - sorry forgot to comment, wow, what a memory, I am impressed.  Don't recall the Bell game that year... >:(  That stung!

DarkSide-D

Ahh redman, I was just ribbin ya a lil bit.  Yes, Carthage got a good win, and although it was a tough loss for Woo to swallow, it was a hell of a game, defensively that is.

I agree with KC.  I think Gheny should keep their field.  While it sucks, and I hated playing on it, it is an advantage to Gheny, who gets to play on it, and are thus used to it.  Although, if Gheny were to ever get a top notch RB, ala Sutton or Murry, I would think their field would hurt them in the end.

Vince, I think it was a shame that Tyrell didnt decide to follow Tony.  I know his mother wanted him to.  Ah, just think.  If only...
