Nike,

Saw that Gheny also lists a 2 deep, even with helmets!  Pretty cool.

BashDad - traded voicemails yesterday with BashBro, wild to hear he waited 10 hours in line at Home Depot for a generator and then drove 4 hours for gas!  Puts things in perspective but glad they are making the best of the situation.

Wally - did you check the Gheny lineups?  Very small corners, very small D-line, below average O-line as well.  I have to think that is a big edge to Wabash.  Can you see the 5'8" corner trying to cover 6'2" Russell with his 37" vertical???  I have to think Harbaugh will have a huge day - can't believe he only threw for 73 yards last year.

Go Bash!

16-

I noticed that the Gheny lineup looked smallish.  Wabash has a pretty distinct size advantage at just about every position.

Last year's game was just odd.  The wind was blowing at 30-40 mph and CC wouldn't let the qb's throw it downfield.  Some bizzarre stats from last year's game:
- Wabash attempted just 17 passes.
- Wabash completed just 12 passes for 70 yards...6 yards per catch.
- Wabash threw only FIVE passes in the first half.

Basically it looked to me like CC bottled everything up.  I could understand not throwing downfield when the wing was in our face, but with the wind at our back we should have taken some shots and didn't.  As a result, the entre game was played in a 10-yard box from the line of scrimmage, and the whole offense gets gummed up when the defense doesn't have to play anything deep.  Some of the numbers....Clifton had 1 catch for 3 yards, Summers had 1 catch for 8 yards, Ray Green had 2 catches for 5 yards.  Wabash didn't challenge deep at all and it killed them.  I don't think CC will keep it bottled up as much this time around.

Those are some whacked stats considering what this O has done this year.  Another one, just think, in the last 2 years, the Gheny D has held Wabash to 9 points!!!  Temarco's fumble return for a TD doesn't count from last year.

Sounds like the O has something to prove tomorrow...

wally:
Nice work on the milage chart.  One comment though (realizing you were using this for demonstration purposes AND that anything can happen);  you are assuming that Alma "most likely" will be the MIAA AQ.  Certainly possible, however, Hope and Albion, as of now, have an equally possible chance as Alma.  With Alma's loss to lowly Kazoo last weekend (which Hope pounded), all three schools control their own destiny at present.  Obviously, the loser of the Hope/Albion game tomorrow is out.  Anyway, it will be interesting to see what happens.

As far as the milage, if Hope is the AQ representative (and without taking the time to check on MapQuest or the Atlas), probably the milage will be about the same from Whitewate and perhaps slightly less if Albion is the representative.  Again, appreciate the work and info you've provided for us.

Another comment:  Interesting about the smaller size of Gheny that you and the others mention.  Hope seems to have the same situation this year on defense and the O-line as compared to some previous years.  Does make it a bit more difficult in some of the match-ups as you guys mention.  On the otherhand, just for example, some small DB's in the MIAA have had tremendous success over the past 3-4 decades (including at Hope).  Several of the DB All-MIAA selections were smaller size players under (under 5' 11") and were some of the toughest around, covering much taller/larger receivers. (I remember Rick Smith from Olivet in the mid-70's who was one of the last guys cut by the Wash Redskins back then; Doug Smith and Tom Barkes from Hope just to name a few).  Certainly not impossible task for smaller teams to win, but certainly more difficult.  Anyway, the Gheny/Bash is an interesting pregame review in such aspect.

Is there a way to look at old pages?  I would really like to read about the exploits of Ben on this site.

That was last year, and alas, are long gone...

To be fair, Allegheny's defense has been aided greatly by the mudpit in '03 and 30-40 mph winds in '04.  Even with the elements, 9 offensive points from Wabash in two games is pretty rare.  Allegheny has always had a pretty good defense.  They played Wabash pretty tough in '02 as well holding that unreal offense to just 24 points.

You said it, BB16...there's something to prove.  There's been something to prove every week for this team and with the big hurdles in the rearview mirror one would think that Wabash would be out of stuff to prove.  Not so...there are definitely loose ends to tie up with the Gators tomorrow.

d3db - I went on the assumption that Alma is going to take care of business the rest of the way.  But even if Albion or Hope win the MIAA title, I don't think it will change the travel situation in the North situation.  Hope and Albion are both within 500 miles of Whitewater.

Face Planter Ben went on to be Gentle Ben the Benchwarmer or even worse.  Just think ... if he had his cape on and Face Planter persona ... Keyon would not have loosed as Oberlin did.

Go 'Bash ... 2 TD winner.

Ben's not all that gentle, one of the last times I saw him he was about to lose it and have a mental breakdown after a, um...large metal container broke the back window of his truck.

Don't know if anybody cares, but I found this article today in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  At least we Allegheny folks have one of our own to be proud of.   Go Leip!

I know this is off the subject a little but I would be interested in what some of the ex-players who post on here think is the best player they have ever competed against or played with.  High School or College.  Offense and Defense. I will give mine.

Offense:  Grant Debevoise RB (high School) Licking Valley
Casey Donaldson a close Second.  Obviously Debevoise is not known too many.  He did play at Dayton a couple of years

Defense:  A little harder since I didn't played much offense but I am biased and would say Seth Duerr.  Juan Howard from Witt was also a monster.

For you Bash posters.  The best Wabash player?  Knott?  Short? Nope.  Kurt Casper.  He was a very underrated player.  He had great speed and ran excellant routes.  He was the toughest reciever I faced in college.  I didn't go against many good ones in high school.
