Thanks for the welcome! I have enjoyed reading this board for the past three years. I'm excited to see how Wabash does this year. The team looks good on paper, but they know stats on paper don't translate into wins. Work Works. WAF

The 2012 roster's up now. Wags must wait until they report. Looks like the New Tigers have some duplicate numbers, so the turnout's OK.

So I spun around the league looking for 2012 rosters:

Allegheny: Posted. All of the freshmen are un-numbered. They have 43 newcomers.
Denison: Posted. 77 players at my count.
DPU: Posted
Hiram: Not posted but they have a season preview. Only nine starters return. That's a bad thing? Good thing? A thing?
Kenyon : Not posted.
Oberlin: Posted. They have 46 players. It's not a good thing when no one on the roster has a number in the 60's, is it? They have seven DL and 10 OL listed, if I counted right and didn't mistake an "O" for a "D".
OWU: Not posted. Just a couple of blurbs. Focused on men's soccer being #1 in the nation. I can see that.
Wabash: Posted
Witt: Posted
Wooster: Posted. Freshmen un-numbered. I counted 42 newbies.

Hey Depauw, remember last year when I was all like "man, your coaching carousal carousel and lack of institutional vigor has really damaged recruiting" and you were all like "no it hasn't" and then I was all like "yes, dude, I think it has"? Remember that? Now look. You only have a single--ONE! HE'S A SOPHOMORE!--non-freshman quarterback on the roster.

Man. Have fun this year.

Carousel or carousal? Because if it's coaching carousal I can definitely see that as a recruiting plus.  ;)

But DPU hasn't had much to carouse about lately. Especially in mid-November...

Dammit. Well, point stands.

Also, new point: Six Depauw QBs quit in the off-season. Six.

Guess who's back? Did you miss me?

We don't need all those QB's when we have Jake "The Snake" Hester.

I heard there was a Senior that is tearing it up in the intramural league...

Long to Seaman:   "Drew,  we need you, the first couple of games we will be running the ball."
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

"I might get a chance to start my freshman season and they have a solid program. They've been in the Division III playoffs two of the last three years."

If he's any good they may as well start him, though a frosh QB ain't your cure-all. Also, I love the contradiction in his first quoted sentence.

Anyway, I'm kind of relieved that there's something interesting happening in Greencastle, even if Hester's enrollment has presumably less to do with a broad, reinvigorated approach to recruiting and more to do with A.) the program's wide open depth chart and B.) a marquee game that can allow Hester to feel BigTime. Still. That's a good get.

What do you guys think is the reasoning behind all these QB's leaving? Hester at least seems like somewhat of a bright spot? Dlip is just fellas.

There's always a little melt. Lots of times the freshmen who are fifth or sixth on the depth chart realize that there's more to life than being blasted into oblivion by the starting defense on a daily basis. But losing six is a bit much.

You are "right on" with that.  BTW, I enjoyed your post about the "roster postings" of your league schools, particularly with the reference to Kenyon's being...is that a "bad thing or a good thing or...a thing"!  Indeed, for Kenyon, it is a "thing" - that fits.  I suppose one could summarize it by saying a parady i.e. "The thing is the thing (you know, like Shakesperes' "the play is the thing" ::) ;D :o).  Hilarious! :)  We all need such levity once in a while!

The play is the thing! Alas...

It's funny, the talk about the future Danny (he's a future Danny until class starts and then he'll be truly subsumed by the Danny Borg) you wonder why more kids right now aren't flocking to Oberlin for PT. Sure, they're not going to be a playoff team but they played pretty darn hard all year and their staff seems to wring the most out of their numbers. A smart kid who played some line in high school could easily get some PT.

With 46 players they're going to have to have a crack medical and training staff on retainer to keep a team on the field.
