Hey, bb, welcome(?!) back.  Certain indication that the season is about to start and that the Bell Game is on the horizon.    Maybe the holdover DePauw QBs saw the h.s. stats of the incoming QBs.  They are actually pretty impressive. I know, I know, h.s. vs. college, but . . .  The numbers indicate that DPU might have a QB battle on their hands for playing time this year.  (I do recall a frosh QB named Spud, who didn't beat Wabash his Freshman year, but who for the next two years gave the L.G.'s fits; and in his senior season was still effective vs. the Scarlet.)  Someone posted a link on HEMRICK; his senior stats are impressive:  83/146, 1144 yds, 11TDs, 748 yds rushing (!).  Others:  MURRAY (Fayette County, Georgia)  As a senior, 78/122, 1150 yds,  8TDs, 3 INTs. (By the way, 2x national finalist punt, pass, and kick.)  Three year starter.  DOLLE (from St. X, and we know their rep) St. X was 10-4 in 2011, getting to the state semis in O-hi-o. Two-year starter. As a senior, 132/243 1468 yds, 11TDs, 10INTs.  WHEELER, from Bishop Dwenger, looks to me like he was listed as an RB on their 2011 roster.  Am I missing something?  Wrong about this?  CAVINEE, in his JUNIOR season at Batesville, was 87/165, 1274 yds, 20TDs school record), and 8 more rushing.  It looks like he was injured early in his senior season.  Again, am I mistaken?  Help, someone.  All this to say that the Tigers have concentrated on what they surely perceive was one of last year's weak links.  I am puzzled by the number of juniors and seniors on the DPU team.  Only about 25 total in the two classes it appears.  Worth watching how the QB situation plays out with the first two games v. St Olaf and Witt (on the road).  Thanks in advance D3fb for your continuing fine work as we go into the 2012 season. Terrific leadership and commitment everyone.

The discussion about Dannie QBs caught my attention.  A comparison of a couple of categories between Wabash and Dannnyland (home of Drew "the cute catch" Seamon and  future home of NFL bound ake the Snake), I think portends the carnage which will be visaited upon the visiting Dannies on November 10:

QB:
Dannies = 1 soph (Drew Baby) and 6 Rhynies headed by Jake the Snake. Only one has taken DPU snaps.
Little Giants = 3 Rhynies, 1 junior and 2 seniors.  Three with 2 or more years college experience, understanding of the system, and big game experience  ... one of whom has started for 3 years and is 18-1 in wins and losses when he started.

OL:Dannies = 4 Rhynies, 2 soph, 1 junior, 2 sr.  Total of 9.  Except for one, the frosh do not have particular size for OL on a college level.  The dreaded Dannie thin yellow line.  Better hope no one gets hurt.
Little Giants = 13 Rhynies, 4 sophs, 11 juniors, 2 seniors (with one of the twqo being preseason "All World"). Rhynies have good size.  There are 30 OL.

DL:
Dannies = 8 Rhynies, 3 sophs, 7 juniors, 2 sr.  20 in total.  Better numbers and spread ... but they did not particularly handle the Little Giant O game last year or year before.  Further, if some have to be retrained to OL due to injuries, the thin yellow line desease spreads.
Little Giants = 9 Rhynies, 3 sophs, 4 juniors, 4 sr.  20 in total and no need to retrain them to be "utility infielder" OL/DL.  Experience abounds which shut lots of people down last year ... not the least being the Dannies.

I smell:   MONKEY STOMP !

Maybe DPU is going to use the modified, legal A-11 formation or the old Emory & Henry shift.

Heard some good things out of the Bishops camp today. Even though the scheme is different the Off. skill guys have some experience together. Coach D will always have something on defense to give the big boys trouble

With an improved record there are two players to consider in the player of the year category on both sides of the ball.

James Huddleston - not many has been as dominant and consistent over a 3 yr period (anyone remember Cisco Clervoix #5). there are no doubts that it will continue.

Mason Espinosa - the best pure passer in the conference. he's primed and ready to step into the national spotlight.

In the "Depauw joins the NCAC" story, how awesome is it that Robby Long's first words are literally about his favorite cheeseburger?

I counted 14. 7 Frosh, 4 Soph, 1 JR, 2 SR.  Still, though. That's way thin and super green. Please put a freshman QB back there. Please. Just do it.

You are correct.  I was not a math major and jumped a line.  My point was that the O line has 4 sophs, a junior and 2 seniors.  (Three with letter winning experience).  Before the 4th game, you know you will need non original starters to stand in for injured and strained.  AND to protect essentially a new green QB.  I can see the Dannies at 0-2 after two games with banged up OL.

I was just amused when I read that story that I have been to the place in Springfield and the place in Wooster that David Jablonski referenced. Means I'm going to the right places when I'm in D3 towns!

Sounds like a bit of script reading for Jaba the Hutt role - no offense to Coach Long...  ;)

I think I get why you like Charles, but not sure which way you're going on the oof. Elaborate. Could be several things, I guess.
