Roster updates:

Hiram has its roster posted now. I counted 93 players! Over half are freshmen. The next question is: Can they play?

Kenyon now has its roster posted as well. They only have 53 players. Line depth will be an issue with 12 OL and 9 DL listed.

Here's a  new (just finished) version of the "Ballad of the Monon Bell" video --

Some randoms on the new version of the Ballad of the Monon Bell:

- nice job, very nice work
- how bad are DPU's all white uniforms?  Marshmellows with paw prints all over any open space ranging from the shoulder to the thigh to the helmet to the knees to the socks.
- looking at our captains last year, they were studs:  Chamblee, Gum, Horn,
- I'm wondering some of the sequences of the highlights: I'd suggest they go in order vs a random free for all.  The very last highlight shows a TD pass by DPU from the 1986 game; just to clarify, Wabash 24, DePauw 23 was the final :) - its a bit misleading from the highlight.
- I wish there were more aerial shots at Wabash instead of at DePauw.  4,000 more fans makes a big difference especially in photos.

I realize I'm biased but just my 2 cents.

Hey, Bash, can't argue on the uniforms.  I used the '86 footage because it shows the way it used to be - with fans right on top of the action at the edge of the field going nuts.  It's not supposed to say anything more than this is not your usual football game, which I hope the snippet (which I recently uncovered) underscores.

1837Tigers:

Great job on the video and thanks for keeping it "fair and balanced".  I would hope that had this been a production from a Wabash grad that it would have turned out as equally fair. I look forward to sharing this new version.

Unfortunately, drunken fools kinda ruined that part of the ambiance.

A quick peek at Week 1 for the league:

All of these are non-conference. Yes, even the first one I'm going to mention. Thanks, Earlham.

Allegheny @ Wooster - While this game doesn't 'count' in the realm of the NCAC (and yes, the team that loses this game can still go undefeated in the league and win it, highly improbable but possible - thanks Earlham) it's a huge game for both squads. The winner of this game can legitimately lay claim as a contender to be 'that team' that could spoil Wabash and Witt's march to the top. The loser has some re-grouping to do in order to compete for third. Who's going to get the nod at QB for the Scots is the big question.

Wittenberg @ Capital - A huge game for the NCAC as a whole. Beating a decent OAC team on the road helps everyone. As discussed here, Witt's defense will need to step up until the offense meshes. Can Florence be every down QB? Can the Old Tigers replace their firepower from last year? This contest in Columbus will give us some answers, some clues and probably more questions.

Kenyon @ Bluffton - It's a new era for the Lords. They're down on numbers and don't seem to have the support that even Hiram or Oberlin has. That being said, Kenyon definitely play the 'no one expects anything from us, not even our fellow Lords' card and come out with chips the size of Lake Erie on their shoulders. We'll see.

Oberlin @ Earlham - The Yeomen need bodies. They do have a spirit and a work ethic that will attract more players. I see a nice punishing of the Quakers here, and Oberlin could add one for good measure for aiding and abetting the NCAC scheduling snafus. (I'm trying to not bash the NCAC so much on the schedule because I think we've said the same thing about 91,746 times).

Hiram @ Westminster (PA) - Hiram has a nice size roster and recruiting class. That's a good start. A non-conference win would be a great plot point too. The last non-conference win was over Gaulladet in 2008, and before that it was a 2003 win over Kenyon in a 'non-conference game'. In 2001, they beat both Bluffton and MSJ, and in 2000 they beat Case. Those are all the non-conference wins for the Terriers this century. Wow.

It's game day, and I'm ready for Wooster's opener this afternoon!   With the backdrop of a now-completed Scot Center for the traditional bagpiper-led charge onto the field, the setting looks as good as ever.  Having a dozen freshman football players in class this fall, I'm hearing a bit more first-hand about the 2012 Scots, and I understand that at least a couple of the new guys will be in starting roles right away.  Hopefully, an injury-free Barnes will be able to consistently work the magic that we have seen in flashes of brilliance, even after losing some of his best "weapons" to graduation.

It's September and beautiful outside ... let's have some fun today.  Go Scots!

1837,

That makes sense.  Several times I remember having to go to the other end of the field to kick the PAT due to fights breaking out in the end zones and spilling on to the field.  I was just curious.  Again, very nice job and thanks!

Debating making the trek down to Franklin for the Mount Union game - just not sure I want to wear a trash bag in the rain for 3 hours.

Glad its game day and can't way to see scores throughout the day.

A couple of randoms:

Wabash LB AJ Akinribade has a little brother who is a freshman at 5A Brownsburg H.S. - he starts at Fullback and is off to a good start after a 3-0 start.  Last night, Toks (pronounced "tokes") Akinribade ran for 133 yards and 3 TD's!

ND's offensive line is flat out beating the crap out of Navy's D front.

At least on the first drive, Florence is answering questions: 4-4 for 64 yards and the 1-yard rushing TD. Witt up 7-0 early in the fist.

Barnes starts at QB for Wooster - 9/13 with 116 yards and a TD thus far as Wooster is up 7-0 with 8 1/2 minutes to go in the first half.

Aside from a lot of dropped passes, Wooster looked pretty good, from what I saw while chasing my kids around.  Freshman CB Lenard Rivers made an interception early in his first game in the black and gold. The Scots led 14-0 with about a minute remaining before halftime, when lightning caused a delay. Allegheny was driving deep into Wooster territory at the time, and scored when play resumed, to cut the lead to 14-7 at half.
