I guess old news is better than no news.  Link to the DeBauch about DPUs scrimmage with Franklin last weekend.

Wonder what the line will be for the St. Olaf game in this weeks Pick'em.

Hanover gave up 465 yards ON THE GROUND on Saturday. That's, um, that's a lot.

Unrelated, but I'm curious: any reports coming from the Woo/Gheny game? The box score, albeit third down % and penalties, seems to be almost fully in the Scots favor. What happened? How'd Barnes look?

Game week!  LGs are headed south for the season lid lifter at Hanover.  As we know, Hanover got thumped on a bit by Illinois College on Saturday, which I'm not going to hold against them too much because I think IC is a pretty good team (ton of returning starters from last year's playoff team).  That being said, the Panthers did get shredded as they gave up a 50-burger and over 600 yards of offense.  Even against a good team, that's not quite so good.  Before I proclaim massive amounts of points and yards for the LGs this weekend, I have to remind myself of a game a number of years ago where OWU gave up, literally, over 700 rushing yards the week before a Wabash game, and then Wabash struggled to score a lot of points against the Bishops.  So adjustments can and will be made and it certainly may not be that easy for Wabash.  And there's also that week 1 to week 2 improvement that Hanover will have and Wabash will not which always makes me a little nervous.  There are quite a few new pieces on Wabash's offense...several new linemen, new receivers, maybe some significant snaps for new faces at RB.  Chase Belton, sorry, Captain Chase Belton (I think this is a big deal, btw) is at the center of the whole thing and I believe that stability and leadership at quarterback should keep the offense steady and on schedule.

Looking forward to getting this thing kicked off for 2012.  WAF!

I don't know about the other Bash Faithful on the board,  but I have a different feel going into this season.    Maybe it is the excitement/expectation that was created by our playoff run in 2011, maybe it is some of the new faces that I cannot wait to see.  It could be the anticipation of seeing a Senior Chase Belton put a (!) on his career at Wabash.  Will Scola take the baton from CJ and rule the middle with dominance?   Could the Hodges Brothers become the best corner tandem ever to play at Wabash?   Who are these impact recruits that sources say will be starting as freshman (because they are that good)?   Transfer Laird's impact....etc.

All I do know is that these last couple of weeks are taking forever.

After the Saturday's result against Capital, it is apparent that Witt will be a strong foe once again this year and one cannot help but look forward to 10/6 with anticipation.   We have four games between now and then and need to focus on each one as an opportunity to gel as a team.

Is it Saturday yet?  WAF!

Checking out the two deep for this week and I see a couple of freshman who appear to be getting starts on Saturday.  Tre Taylor (large dude out of Ben Davis) is atop the depth chart at the center position.  Tyler McCullen (out of the same AZ high school as Scola) is listed at the top of the chart at one of the DE positions.  Plenty of other freshmen are also on the depth chart in backup positions, so we'll probably start to get familiar with a lot of these guys sooner rather than later.

A few comments:

Jorge Diaz-Aguilar get well soon... we need you!

Troy Meyers - SR -  Gets the nod at running back? Converted from Defense?

Large number of freshman on the two-deep?   Does this signify a superb recruiting class?

Offensive Line averages...  6-3 279 which is not bad.   285, 270, 300, 300 & 240

bashbro-

Troy has always been a running back for Wabash...maybe some special teams mixed in there as well.  Played in 11 games last year and had 26 carries.  I don't have any specific info on this, but my guess is that the RB depth chart is very fluid...may very well see 3 or even 4 guys act as interchangeable parts there with no real "starter" per se.

BashBro - thanks for posting the game notes.  Since rolling out the new website last year, I have not been able to locate the game notes.  Where do you find them?

The two-deep for the offensive line looks young but big.  Given IC's success at running the ball last week at Hanover, it will be interesting to see how the Wabash running game performs.

Wabash Hokie -  They are now under "Athletic Dept" tab... at the bottom - "Sports Releases".

Wally - "no real "starter" per se"  - In my honest assessment,  if there has been a weakness in our team over the years, this has been been it.   Not that we haven't gotten by or even had some bright spots in that area, we have...but.

Bits and pieces--Meyers moved to RB as a junior.  Played late in games last year.  Hard runner.  Good size. . . . McCullen is from the same h.s. as Scola, in Arizona.  His brother plays (safety?) at Arizona State. . . .Mueller was the Indiana state champ intermediate hurdler as a h.s. senior.  Had an impressive last spring on the track team. . . .Woods is from the same h.s. as Belton: Northmont, Ohio. . . .Bauer played baseball for the Little Giants last spring. . . .W. Brown comes out of former DLmen Josh Gangloff's h.s. . . .I believe the Cmehil is pronounced something like Shm/HILL. . . .WR Gibson was a starter at safety last year.  Moved over in the spring to deepen the WR corps.  Was also a WR as a freshman, and stood out in Red Squad games. . . .The two centers, Taylor and Brock, together weigh 670 lbs. . . .the Hodges brothers together weigh about 244 lbs. . . .remember that as a freshman Kraus caught more than 40 passes.  Last year he kinda disappeared behind Horn and Chamblee. . . .Look for him in 4-wide sets(?). . . .

sigma one

Oops!  My bad on Hodges + Hodges:  it's 344 lbs. . . .Looking at them it just seems like 244. . . .A bit more---------------It looks like Kitley is the only OL starter with significant starting experience.  If memory serves ( I'm not checking) Riffle got several starts late last year. . . .Also, Campbell may have started a couple of games as a freshman two years ago.  On the two deep, these seniors:  Kitley, Tichenor (brother of another OL Tichenor from several years ago), Belton, Kenney, Meyers, Hunt. . . .On defense:  Clegg, Phillips, Hodges--the elder, Koop. . . . We all know the numbers will be fluid through the year, but not counting the returners, holders, and snappers, the two-deep includes (may have missed slightly but the numbers are interesting) 10 seniors (6 of them listed as starters, 17 juniors, 13 sophomores, and 9 freshmen:  9!

I think the trend around football is to have several backs that complement or supplement each other so someone is fresh at all times and can give the "D" different looks. If you have an absolute horse, you use him, but if you have several good backs, use them all.
