I  think you guys are barking up the wrong tree when you connect Long's firing with any fundraising campaign.  I have no evidence.  I have my own theory, also completely speculative, but we will have to communicate privately for me to share it.  Not being coy, just cautious.

hit me up. would love to hear it.

No problem. Was only answering speculation. I know that DPU would never quid-pro-quo the gift to the firing.

Never heard of a coach being fired on a Sunday morning.  They certainly knew the money was coming before they let him go.  Just smells fishy.  Don't know anything about  Long other than he did a decent job in a difficult situation his first year when he took over.  Did he ever beat Wabash?

It is my understanding that the firing of the head Dannie football coach had to do with a conflict over University "expectations" concerning their coach ... not having to do with win or loss (although not having a particularly good recruiting year and then getting polished by Witt probably did not help in the "for or against" column).  Whether the "expectations" pass the "reasonable man" test ... or should have been imposed "in the real world" ... is an open question ...  I have not been told exactly what he "did" or "did not do", but I did hear general information passed on from a source who should know.

Measure the ultimate truth with these tools:  1) Dannies abruptly and ineptly PR report the action and basis the Sunday after the second game of the season ... extroadinalrily bad timing even by Dannie standards.  2) The Dannie activity regarding its recent head football coaches appears to be a recurring theme in Dannieland 3) Such an abrupt action - in all probability - should/would be very hurtful with regard to coach's progress in the head college football coach profession ... if there is an intent to be a head football college coach after the DePauw experience. 4) Nothing has been heard further from the coach or the University (?perhaps the parties are talking in private?).

This all begs the real future issues:  What coach in their right mind would walk into a football head coach position in an enviornment and with track record as exists in Greendingle?  What student athlete ... similarly ... would want to entrust his 4 years of football experience to the coach lottery?

Maybe the transgression(s) of this coach and the past two coaches similarly dismissed ... were very bad?  Maybe not?  If very bad ... where is the due dilligence "up river" which shouldhave/would mitigate against picking someone who would so transgress ... several times? If not very bad but essentially wrongfully done ... where is the common sense/good leadership?  These coaches (and future coaches?) professional lives and the future student athletes experiences are at stake here.  Sad ... sad ... but then again .... Dannies will be Dannies.

Two. He only had two shots at Wabash. This would have been his third. Oops!  ;)

A fascinating question, but never underestimate how vast the "supply" of people that want to get into coaching is.  The demand for QUALITY coaches may outweight the supply of quality coaches available, but there are dozens of kids out there every year graduating from small schools that want to get into coaching.  I can think of three CMU grads from my year alone who are currently HS assistants or college GA's, and one who is NFL assistant.  Any of them would give their left nut to be offered a Division III head coaching position, no matter how unfavorable the situation.  They will get dozens and dozens of APPLICANTS.  Whether any of them are capable of handling the position, especially given the curious atmosphere, is the difficult question.

92-7.

Wabash beat them that bad in how many games, two or three?

He was head coach for the last three games.  In 2009, he got beat by The Sneak™.  In 2010 and 2011, he just got beat unmercifully.

92-7 is just the score of the last two games.

I forgot when Walker left. My brain hurts. He was interim in 2009.

If I wasn't planning on going to Wabash OWU game on the 27th, might travel to Selby tomorrow for Kenyon OWU game. Wife out of town tomorrow.
I expect OWU to win, but Kenyon has a chance to make a real big splash tomorrow if they can win.
However, I want OWU to be undefeated when Wabash comes to Delaware.  And I am assuming(sometimes a big mistake) that Witt will take care of Allegheny later this year.
So a couple more huge games still loom ahead in the NCAC this year and that is cool, even if the Scots are not a part of the festivities.
Are there any Witt or Allegheny backers on here?  And where is the ScotLass at or any other NCAC schools represented?
Nothing better than high school football on Friday nights and D3 football on Saturday afternoons.
Those were good times.
