There could be a big problem at QB for Wooster.  Schafer had a horrible day on Saturday.  I believe his line was 4-23 or something around that.  He also had 2 picks returned for touchdowns, although those were not entirely his fault.  Those were actually 2 of his better passes.  The receivers did a poor job and especially on those two int returns, they went right off the hands of the receiver in each case and deflected to the BW defender.

Schafer did say that his arm was bothering him.  Something about inflamation around his elbow, but he had tests run after the game and they didn't reveal anything.  If he does have a bad arm, and it causes him to perform this poorly, I would surely hope Schmitz would be quick to make a switch.  To me, this team, especially on the offensive side of the ball (the skill postitions in particular), has a lot of improvement to make in just one week.  If they can't get it togeter, I wouldn't be surprised to see them finish lower than their pre-season ranking.  Hopefully they can get things working.

On a positive note, I do seem to recall them not looking so good against BW in their scrimmage last year and we all know how things turned out.  Hopefully they can get some things worked out this week against the fish!

Thanks for the updates on the Wooster scrimmage.

Youy guy's assesments were exactly what I was afraid of coming into the season.  It sounds as if their skill all the way around is non-existent right now, which makes it even tougher on Shaffer to perform at a higher level than last year. He needs to do that in order for the Scots to be successful.

Let's hope they get it turned around.

Changing from scrimmages.  Did anyone else see the pre-season game between KC Chiefs and the Seattle Seahawks?  Jerheme Urban(Trinity) is 3rd on the Seahawks dept chart, but looked really good.  Sounds like he has very good chance to make the squad, and even has a chance at seeing a lot of time at WR.  Vern Lundquist(I think, I came in the beginning of the 2nd half)  gave some love to D3.  He said his alma mater Texas Lutheran played Trinity.  The color guy said Trinity was some rich private school that was not very good at football.  Vern straighten him out, and explain there was good football play at that level.  Good Luck to Urban and any other D3 player trying to live out a dream.

Did you see the Red/White?  I would be interested to hear your take on how the L'il Giants looked.

tiger_alum

Has anyone heard about a Witt scrimmage and how they looked?

Bashbacker765

BashDad,

No, I had some things I had to do.  The weather was also a concern.  I heard than Don Jaun and Brandon look very good.  I also heard that both Russ and Justin had good days.  Can't wait to get things kiicked off. Is there is a better LB corp than Foster, Selby, Parker, Pynenburg.  If there is, that is just scary.  The D has a whole could and should be better than the 2003 D that was rank 4 nationally.  If there is any concern it would have to be at the skilled posistions and DB's.  I think, and hope this will be a special year for the Lil Giants.

I agree that the Bash LB corp is awsome.  Hopefully, we will escape serious injuries and the total "D" will rock all season!

Smeds:  he may be a super soccer player, but Server's choice still surprises me because it seems to fly in the face of Wabash tradition--a 2nd team NCAC pick for a player who led the NCAC both in FG's & FG percentage in '04-- and he chooses to change sports in his senior year?  Still, he's a nice young man, is serious about his academic life as a student--I wish him well.

Bash LB corps...cont'd...Deig, Knez, Roomes, Greisl...and that includes position changes to Wes Anderson 6'1 235 and Pete Kemp 6'0 238 to the D-front.

Interesting remarks from Wooster.

Question on Witt...their starting O-line has good size, how is their depth there?  In looking at their roster, it appears there is a big drop off from the front line starters.  Not surprised the Funke kid (Roncalli) has cracked the starting line up.

Server's place in Wabash history is locked up...he hit the biggest field goal I've seen in 9 years of watching Wabash football and probably the biggest kick since the 1992 Bell game (I think that's the right year anyway).  If he wants to move on to play soccer, so be it.  I think Wabash will be fine in the kicking game with either Finley or Vaughan.  I'm more concerned about our punting which has been a weak spot for Wabash over the last few years.

Wally,

He will also be remembered as the Freshman place kicker (with our Freshman punter) who overslept in Alliance OH the day of the NCAA Elite 8 game vs. Mount Union.

Great kick at Witt that year though!

I think I understandt he Karma/Star system now, but it appears my totals have also been deleted.  Any chance of upping my totals, Pat?   :'(

Not good news from the Wooster scrimmage.  I agree with Lancer...the biggest question mark this year is not Schafer, but the WRs and RBs around him.  Sounds like, accoridng to the stats, Schmitz wants to air it out a bit more this year, which means Wooster needs to find a WR or two than can get it done.  Hopefully, the scrimmage results were a fluke.

Is that why Short was punting vs. Mount?!?!?  I've wondered what the heck was up with that for almost three years now.

I'll chime in with my impressions of the Red/White from Saturday...

Defense won't be a problem for Wabash this year.  Tamarco White is a manimal.  Bubba Lange isn't far behind.  Linebackers will be outstanding.  Secondary might be the soft spot on this defense, but that really isn't too soft either.  Jackson is a good corner as is Bell.  Also liked Ja'Michael Hill at corner.

Offense...both qb's looked good.  I think Harbaugh should be the guy unless Creighton is going to install a spread option offense in the next two weeks.  Looked to me like Harbaugh just had better rythym with the offense.  O-line looked much better than last year.  I think Wabash might have an answer at RB with DJB.  He ran the ball pretty well against the first team D.

Most importantly, I haven't heard anything about players getting seriously hurt Saturday.  R/W might have been the biggest day of Wabash's season last year!

Saturday at Wheaton should tell us a lot more.

my take after seeing the Wooster/BW srimmage...the timing on passing was off a little but the freshmen receivers werent there last spring...its going to take a little time but 2 freshmen stood out to me...might have been a little in awe of BW, good size all around...a number of ol still banged up and sat out...defense looked good except for a few missed assignments...looking forward to sat night...

I had forgotten that it was Server who made the kick at
Witt.  One of the most exciting moments I have ever had in a football stadium!
