I never see modify on my screen!!!!
Maybe my last comment on the wing-t
When a particular school beats the best teams in the NCAC with the wing and wins a conference championship, then I am sure their offense will be respected.  When they put up big offensive numbers against Witt and Wabash and even Allegeny, not just against Denison and Kenyon, then I know their offense will be talked about in a positive manner.
Either players don't fit an offensive scheme or the offense doesn't suit the players.
It would not have made sense to line Tony Sutton up as a receiver and not gotten him the ball in the backfield. Why? Because his talent was running the ball.  This year Wooster is throwing more because they do not have a Sutton. And not as much talent.
But guess what? The last couple years when they had the talent,
they won and last year went undefeated in the regular season.
Just like Wabash is doing this year.
Win a conference title and respect comes.

reality check

This is just a courtesy post to those who remember Ron Bendekovic.  He was an All-American lineman at Allegheny and coached for a couple OAC schools including Marrietta, BW and ONU.  Bendekovic passed away unexpectedly today at the age of 34.  The thoughts and prayers of many have gone out on the OAC board but I thought I would post this in here so that anyone who might have shared some memories on the playing field with him might wish to know of his untimely passing.
OAC Champs: 1942 (one title ties us with Ohio State)
OAC Runners-Up: 2017, 2016, 2015, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2004, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1982, 1941 (Stupid Mount Union!)
MOL Champs: 1952, 1950

reality check:

Thanks for the post regarding Ron Bendekovic.  I am sure that those who played with and against Ron during his playing days at Gheney are appreciative to get the news, even though it is not what you would like to hear.  Thirty-four is much too young.

Condolences from the Wabash faithful to Ron's family, his many fans and team mates at Allegheny, and the many players that he coached at BW and ONU.

Does anyone know if DePauw has a tailgating policy?  I was thinking about going over there the night before in a motor home, but definitely do not want to start any trouble with them.  If you have done it, do you have a recommended place to park?  Thanks!

Just because no one has won a title with the Wing-T recently doesn't mean there's something inherently wrong with the offense.

There are TWO sides to football, and I would gather Mt. Union would have won those titles with the Wing-T, or Single Wing, or even the old T-formation.

Then WHY do so few college teams use the wing-t? And why isn't it used in the pros? Wing-t people, name one elite team in D3 or D2 or D1 using the wing-t now.
Name just one and I will read up on them.
By elite I mean in contention for a conference title or just steamrolling the opposing defenses they have faced.
In high schools, the wing-t was (and maybe still is) used by teams with undersized linemen who were not big enough to block straight ahead, but quick enough to block at angles.
Name the teams and I'll look and see how they are making it work. Cause I've never seen it work. Against good defensive teams, that is.

My argument was never that Augie wouldn't compete.  It was that the wing-t will keep teams from the NEXT level.  Simple.

old guy- augie has 4 rings so your arguement is plain and simply wrong. they have made it to the "next level". so your next reply is about recent history and the SIMPLE answer is mt union. name 1 team in 10 years that made it to the final four from the north region other than mt union?? its a simple question, please answer it. so, by your logic, wabash, wheaton, wittenberg, capital, ONU, augie, albion (they won a title too, but too long ago by your calendar), etc....none of these are championship caliber teams because they have been unable to make it to a final 4 or beyond recently.  seems ridiculous to me.

Duster72 -

That is a tough call on DPU tailgating.  The ideal spot is the main south lot right outside of the stadium.  Your problem will be the RV.  Their security will likely keep the RV out of that lot - imagine that!!!  We've even thought of parking the RV and hauling our gear/equipment down the hill to the South lot.  I am guessing the Friday arrival won't help.

If you go down Friday, don't forget operation "Trojan Horse" from 2 years ago - worked like a charm.

In short, they usually want ALL RVs in a different lot that is much farther from the stadium.  We haven't secured a spot in the South lot for years.

When did Wabash, ONU, Capital, and Wheaton win the title?

I don't think any team has made it outta the North in ten years other than Mount.  Now, if you go 11 years, then we would have Albion in 1994.  Who knows, perhaps even this year.  Mount has lost to a North regioner this year.

Duster72

What was opeartion Trojan Horse?  Sounds familiar...

darkside-exactly my point. none of them have. but all of them have fallen to the team that has, MUC. so oldguy's arguement can't be applied just to wing-t teams (i.e. no wing t team has made it to the final 4, etc). the fact is that augie has been to alliance 2x in the past 10 years and lost to wheaton in the waning seconds the last 3 yrs when wheaton has gone on to play mt union in alliance. I think that a few of those teams were final 4 caliber teams (JCU proved the north has more than 1 final 4 team by wining the east a few years back).

DarkSide-D

But that is only the North region.  There are still three other regions, that aren't/weren't dominated by a team to the extint that the North has been.  Is the north the only region that has wing-t teams?  Why hasn't a team from another region, that runs the wing-t, made it to the final four or championship?

Perhaps the wing-t team isn't as bad as I once thought.  I definately would never run it.  Apparently, in order for a team to be successful with it, that team must be made of some absolute studs!  Sorry OWU.  :-\

Quick question, When Gheny won the title in 90, was it with the wing-t?

usee

darkside-don't get me wrong, i would never run it and can't stand it. I am not a defender of the wing-t by any stretch. i am only arguing the point for augie who i have had the unfortunate experience of watching it over the last 20+ years. their success and championship caliber cannot be discounted.
