I know BashDad was on this last year...and I know this is totally out of place in this forum...but I might be straddling the fence a little on Franklin/Mount Union this year.  Maybe just a little bit.

You and me both, man. I'm excited for that game. This FC group has played UWW/UMU three times.

And Butler.  And UMHB.  They haven't been particularly close in those games, but they shouldn't be too surprised by what's coming.  And UMU lost a ton.  And a coach with 0.929 win percentage.  I'm definitely intrigued.

Been following the posting regularly have just not really had much of anything to add to the postings...

The season is here...will Wabash be playing Wheaton in a preseason game...and where?

PAT COLEMAN:I have tried to get signed up this year for kickoff 4 times and somehow it will not let me...please email me directly for my info so I can get it..Thank you

The road trip article I loved...twice this season I will be able to make 2 games in one saturday...

Loved hearing that the LG's have some great quality coming into camp this year...39 is not the greatest in terms of numbers but having two top flight QB's coming into camp was exciting to read...

Update for any LG's following the coaching careers of Wabash grad...Andrew Rode was moved to Offensive Coordinator this season at Greenville College. He took a trip this summer to meet with one of the top D1 OC gurus...Before his season has even started he has lost his Conference OPY in his running back Gamble to health problems and is now out of football as a returning senior ...and his # 2 running back as well...Adversity make one stronger...WAF

While coaching in 4 years now his teams have won the conference twice...add that to the 4 straight conference championships at Wabash and he has 6 rings in 8 years....What great fun this has been for me

PAT COLEMAN:...Just got through on the cc ...BTW Pat that you so much for your kind and generous service to the D3 community..your service makes a difference in my life...Thank you

Add this experienced youth to what some "sources" say is going to be the best recruiting class in years and the future looks very bright in C-Ville.

WAF!

So who are some of these future Giants?

Wabash's preliminary 2013 roster has been posted so we can probably answer this question....here are the N/S all stars that are scheduled to join the Little Giants this week:

Austin Brown, QB Griffith
Drake Christen, QB Lawrence Central
Thomas Allgood, RB/DB Scecina Memorial
Connor Ludwig, LB Brownsburg
Deryion Sturdivant, OL Westfield
David Boyer, TE Southport
Alex Parrett, WR Cardinal Ritter (Alex caught a TD for the South in the all star game)

If you're playing along at home, the N/S All Stars scorecard is:
Wabash 7
Franklin 1
DePauw 0

I counted 39 total freshman on Wabash's 2013 roster.

There is a lot of quarterbacks on the roster, do any of the freshman Qb's stand out? Have a legit chance of starting?

P.S. Only 32 days 18 hours 58 minutes till kick off WAF!!!!

There seem to always a number of QBs on the pre-season roster - but when your #7 on the depth chart and not seeing any Red Squad time, either, many decide to pursue their academic, um, pursuits instead.

Or other positions within the team.   One could assume they are pretty darn good athletes.

Connor Ludwig - LB Brownsburg http://youtu.be/h0YLBoS6LPw  nice aggressive  nose for the ball.

Alex Parrett - WR Cardinal Writter - http://youtu.be/WGU4NnyEdpE - Looks to have decent speed and can catch

Drake Christian - QB Law. Central Interview  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBnpuEiwBxI  - Particularly liked the comments about the Wabash players on the All-Star Team.  Led team to 5A State Championship in 2012.  Highlights -  http://youtu.be/Ay8Fuu6ls_k

Thomas Allgood -  RB/DB Scecina -   No video....   Just a sweet name for a running back

NICE to see another Belton on the roster http://youtu.be/2vnezLvH7tU

Jaymz Jackson WR out of Virginia is going to be fun to watch.  http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1045084/highlights/17850382

Jalen Alston - East Chicago - TE -  Some great dunk videos on Youtube?  Football & Basketball?   1st Team Illinois All-State Linebacker as a Junior.

Here's the list of freshmen who have started games at quarterback in the 20 years at Wabash.

Chris Ings
Jake Knott
Chase Belton

Whoa.  Now, that being said, if there were ever a year when a freshman could come in and win a starting job, it would be this year.  There is exactly one varsity start returning to the team at the quarterback position this year.  My guess is that the starting job will be won by either Walsh or Putko, but if any of these freshmen (many of which are impressive) ball out in camp the next few weeks, who knows.

Some good videos but, the one of Jackson kind of looks like middle school players instead of high school and at a 144lbs I would be a little concerned about strength. I guess that's why I'm posting on a message board and not coaching. :)

Back to defense. I haven't really checked the stats of other safeties in D3 but is their any concern with our freshman safety being second in tackles? Normally when a safety is making that many tackles it usually doesn't end well for the defense.

It really depends on what defensive set your team is playing the most and how you decide to use your safeties.   Wabash seems to play at least one up quite a bit almost like another linebacker.   This puts more pressure on the corners,  but last year we had a darn good set of them.

Wabash actually gave up less total yardage in 2012 vs. 2011 and 20% less on the ground.   In 2011,  Wabash had (2) safeties in the top 6 in tackles and the same in 2012.   I write it off as we are aggressive with our safety play.

I think Woods was a pretty regular special teamer last year as well, so some of his tackling total probably comes from that.

And Belton started, and was impressive at Wooster, because of an injury.

Makes sense and works quite well!! Guess I've been watching same ole defense bend but don't brake safety is last man for too long.

No other comments so far on Rice, who was the QB at Indianapolis Cathedral, a big-time program that plays both in and out of Indiana. He is a lefty with nice size.
