I was looking at the qb's recruiting films and most of them seem to fit that mold. All but the kid from michigan took the snap from the shotgun and were 6 foot or taller. The kid from michigan is 5' 8" and takes anaps from center.

Only in D-3, folks. Student-athletes fully participating in the life of the institution. Think Johnny Manziel is going to be an RA at aTm?

At this point Manziel may not even be at aTm to qualify as an RA. Then again - he seems to make a decent income in the autograph market/racket.  ;D

Looks like the Wabash roster has benn updated with height and weights.  McCullen is up to 6'5 239 - imagine that coming off the edge!  Gibson and Woods are huge safeties that should play physical.  I'm anxious to see Woods this year in year 2 off his ACL.

Pretty cool that the frosh WR Parrett got Chamblee's #84.

A couple other comments:  Brock is 6'7 290, Taylor 6'2 315, Scola is 234, and Breukman is up to 263 at D-tackle.

Hoping to catch practice this afternoon........

Wow looks like some men have been working pretty hard this summer! This defense along with the strong running game could make for some long days for opposing defenses as they will be on the field a long time. Special teams should be pretty good this year with both returners in Hodges and Woods returning and a great punter in Sobleski. No matter who the QB as long as they are smart, not a bunch of turnovers and gets rid of the ball instead of a sack, I believe this Wabash team is going to be a heck of a football team that will surprise a lot of people.

Just some offbeat observations from a summer with too little to do.  I've checked these several times; someone please correct if I am mistaken.
In the past 5 years, 2008-2012,  only 4 DIII teams have lost no more than 2 games in any given year ( I exclude NESCAC in all that follows):  Mt. Union, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Wesley (these three kind of obvious when you think about it).  The 4th is Wabash.  Not fewest losses in 5 years, but no more than two losses in any year.  And--over the past 3 years, only 10 teams have no more than 2 losses in a given year, including both Wabash and Wittenberg.
In the past three years, 2010-2012, 16 DIII teams have a winning record of .800 or better:  among them are Wabash and Wittenberg, tied at .848.  (They are tied for #7:  the first six are Mt. Union, St Thomas, UW Whitewater, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Wesley, Linfield.)
Over the past five years, Wabash is 8th among DIII teams in total # of wins:  47.  Wittenberg has won 46.  Over the past three years Wabash/Wittenberg are tied at #9 with 28 wins.
2008-2012:   We all know the big 6 or 7 over time based on playoff success:  Mt. Union, UW Whitewater, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Wesley, Linfield, St Thomas, (more recently), North Central.  All are at .849 wins or better, with Mount at an amazing .960, followed by Whitewater at .929.  Only these two are over .900.    Others over .800 for 5 years are Wabash (#8 .839) and Wittenberg (tied for #10 .821).   Case Western Reserve, Thomas More, Trine are also above .800.  Franklin is at .793, and we know who they have scheduled..
And lastly, if you can stand more numbers.  IN the past 10 years, 2003-2012, a longer haul--11 teams have won at an .800 or better rate.  Wabash is among them at 81%.

If you are curious about the NCAC over the past 5 years:   Allegheny (30-20, 60%)     Denison (22-28, 44%)     [DePauw (30-20, 60% )]     Hiram (5-45, 10%)     Kenyon (10-40, 20%)     Oberlin (15-35, 30%.)     Ohio Wesleyan (20-30, 40%),      Wabash (47-9, 84%),     Wittenberg (46-10, 82%),     Wooster (24-26, 48%).
Both Wabash and Wittenberg have been in the playoffs 3X.  Both have best records of 12-1, Wabash in 2011; Wittenberg in 2009.
     The best record among other NCAC teams in this period:  Allegheny (8-2, '09)     Denison 6-4, '08)     DePauw (9-2 in '10 in the SCAC),     Hiram (3-7, 08),     Kenyon (6-4, '12)     Oberlin (4-6, '10 and '12)     Ohio Wesleyan (9-1 '12)    Wooster (8-2, '08).
Taking into account that everyone but the National Champion (and sometimes a team that finishes undefeated in the regular season bet does not advance), loses at least one game, the Wabash and Wittenberg records are impressive.  I know someone will point out the NCAC as weak conference ater the top teams; true enough.  I don't care.
I hope you have fun with this as we wait for the improtant business to begin.

Morning, Folks,

I guess with my annual dream about showing up to pre-season camp in the current shape I'm in now having taken place last night, that can only mean one thing:  our favorite season is upon us.

Wishing the best of luck to all teams this year for a healthy and competitive season in the NCAC.

I don't either.  This is really good stuff.  It doesn't matter what league you play in, winning 8+ games every single year is really hard.  There are plenty of leagues around that exist below the lofty realms of the WIAC and the CCIW and the OAC and the MIAC that are ripe to be owned perennially by one team...except that they just aren't.  The most regionally relevant example would be the HCAC.  That league begs to get owned by one good team every year and, for the most part, Franklin obliges except for one year when they slipped up. The MIAA is another league that could probably be dominated by one team if any one team up there got consistent- Trine looked to be on the right path there but have since taken a step or two backward after Watt graduated.  The point is that it is HARD to win 8+ games every year regardless of who your competition is.  Good stuff, sigma one.

Word from C-Ville is things are looking very good.    Some chatter about some interesting moves taking place and some Freshman that could bring real impact to an already talented squad.   Very excited to see the 2013 Little Giants take the field.

Do we have a scrimmage scheduled against anyone (Wheaton?)  I think someone may have asked this earlier,  cannot find if info was posted on it.

WAF!

A conference is only as good as the middle of the pack teams, really. Every conference will have its dreams and its duds. And while the NCAC hasn't been tough as nails in the middle, the fact that other teams have been and will continue to be in the mix besides Wabash and Witt is a good sign.

The addition of DPU, even during a very down period for them, is definitely a great improvement over Earlham. The one school that hasn't made at least some noise in the recent years is our old friends in Hiram. Ah, well, the OAC has Wilmington, the MIAC has Hamline (who no doubt is writing letters to Macalester saying, "Do you miss us? Check yes or no...), etc.

I'm bullish on the NCAC long term.

Agreed, but the irony is that going forward it's going to be hard to tell.  We sacrificed a meaningful inter-conference sample size to have a round robin.  Ah, tradeoffs.

Kickoff is coming!

I wanted to make a specific appeal to folks on the NCAC board about purchasing Kickoff this year! You guys have been great to us in the past and I recognize that, so thanks for supporting D3football.com in the past and hope you will again this year, if you haven't already. Many of you already have and have even encouraged others to do so.

I believe we have a really good product this year and some good NCAC previews. Braden Layer, the former Denison wide receiver, wrote these team previews this year and I like his perspective. He also did a Q&A with one of his former conference rivals that turned out nicely. We launch Tuesday at noon ET:
