Oh and Scola was a man on a mission!!!! Great game by that young man! Every week it seems like someone different steps up on defense and leads the way! This defense is for real!!!! I think it goes something like this Offense wins games Defense wins championships!
WAF!

No quarterback throws well on the run consistently.  And I think that's the problem that Espinoza is going to have. They are so relentless.  Your defensive backfield is about as good as I've seen in the NCAC in a long time.

On those long runs Zurek reminds me of the old Darrell Royal quote: "He looks like a grizzly bear haulin' a walnut"

Glad to see my fellow Niner doing well!

Another Niner alum here!

Any chance Raeburn can convince Matt DeSomer to follow Zurek to Crawfordsville?

Huge work week for the Bishops....Last shot
for Espo to drill the LG's...Hard to accept that
the Red & Black only averages 92 yds rushing.

I've been pulled away from one of my favorites; D3/NCAC for the
past year. This is the week to get back...LG's and their great
tradition in Crawfordsville...Great to see Bishopsleftiesdad &
some others be the voice. Lots of Bishops read this board...
This is the week to get in on the conversation...sigma one is right:
The Bishops can only afford to lose one conference game. I still
miss the Lass and her insight...Keep Fighting Lass!!

I was not shocked, but I have to say I was mildly surprised with the way the game went yesterday at Wooster.  (By the way, what a wonderful new athletic facility; should be good for recuriting in all sports.)  Some brief observations:

The LG defense got after Barnes about the way I thought they would
Barnes is a gifted athlete, so his problems getting away yesterday said legions
Wabash scored so easily early that the game probably changed its character, but that's what good teams do--
and Woo responded well to make it 14-7 before the tidal wave
Another example of why statistics are fun but often not all that telling. Lots of late-game yards by the Scots v.
an able but still second-team defense (still they moved the ball some early on, too)
Really liked Wooster's RB; quick decisive
38-7 locked it up, but a strange second half, and not what the coaches wanted to see, I'm sure:  a pick in the end zone on
what looked like a 50/50 ball; a nice TD called back because of a holding (I think that's what it was) call;  a drive stopped in
              the red zone (FG resulting)
         Nice to see that Woo was willing to pull out all the stops:  1st  offensive play was a double reverse pass for only about 5 yds;
two other attempts at trickeration that failed because of execution
I missed the band and all the pipers; one sort of lame noise as the all-black came off the hill before the start of the game
A spotty game back for the QB.  Nice to know that there are others in the wings
A measure of fan expectation with that score and the feeling that the Red didn't play all that well (maybe coaches, too)
Saw a young woman at the game with that Texas orange shirt on; longhorn outline on the front and on the back:
"Mammas, don't let your babies grow up to be Sooners."  Fodder for John Pactor:  "Mammas, don't let your babies grow up to
be, uh, Dannies."   (Women excepted, of course)

When Hiram is a toss up, that only speaks volumes how much of a hole the New Tigers find themselves.

That lady is going to be awfully disappointed around noontime next Saturday afternoon.

Too many games before they play, but if they played next week, I think Hiram would be favored (2.5 or so).  Be fun to see the early line on the Bell game.

Reading the Top 25 wrap up was interesting.  No offense toward Mr. #upsetalert but is 306 yards with anemic ypp average and no touchdowns, coupled with -51 yds rushing (long run of 4), really highlight worthy?  Uh, "Did(n't) Wabash Win?"  ;)

Hard to accept that the Red & Black only averages 92 yds rushing.

Likely a product of throwing the ball 65 times per game, but yes, the days of the 300+ yard rushing games per the Wing-T grinder are long gone.

So it's only good if I spotlight Wabash's offense and not the defense that sacked him seven times?

Probably fair to mention Barnes throwing for 300+ against the top-ranked defense in D3.  I know I had some fun with Barnes and his tweet yesterday, but I'm glad Wabash doesn't have to deal with him anymore. He's good. Respect.

Looking forward to a great match-up this week with Hiram vs. Kenyon. This should be a close and exciting game and a great opportunity for both teams. I am going to pick the Terriers in this one 27-21 but it could very easily go either way.

It's obviously unwise for Div I types (academically by LG definition) to venture into realms of rhetoric or prose (my apologies to Profs J O'Rourke and W. Fertig - you tried   ;D) on message boards. Learned.   :-X

Any individual who can throw for 300 yards in successive games is respected, particularly given changes in coach, system, and game conditions.  Yesterday's encore provided an appropriate (and dare I say convenient) segue for Pat's column given Barnes' well-deserved award from the previous week.  Stellar defensive play aside, though, might a brief mention of Zurek's contribution been warranted?  Now watch Mason receive kudos this week... Mea culpa.  :-[

My inference about the tweet was a subtle poke at this board and tweet relevance as well as WNDY commentary during Saturday's game.  Good catch, Wally, and yeah, the scenario was overplayed - it's not like this was DePauw.   Now back to my cave.  Word (with a smoke and a dram)   ;)
